How to use your Kids’ REAP Journal Being the best you can be in Jesus!
pl e
If you’re a part of a soccer or netball team and you want to be a better player, you need to train hard and do drills to improve your skills. If you want to do well in your piano exams, your teacher gives you scales and techniques to practise that will help you to do your best. How do you train to be more like Jesus? By spending time reading God’s word (the Bible) and putting the lessons you learn into practice! It’s not as hard as you might think!
m
Set aside some special time each day. Just like you might spend time out in the backyard improving your goal shooting skills, set aside some time each day as your ‘special time with God’.
Sa
Persevere! When you first learn to play a new piece of music or try a new computer game, you might get a little frustrated. But with some practice, it starts to get easier. It’s the same with your REAP Journal. So keep going! Share! Tell your family and church friends about what you’ve been learning. Your parents might like to read with you on some days. It’s fun and interesting to talk about what happened in the Bible and what it means to follow Jesus today. R EA P J OUR NAL

It’s as easy as counting to 5! Here’s what you do in your special time with God each day:
1. Look up today’s Bible reading Start by getting your pen, your Bible, and your Kids’ REAP Journal. You might like to use a version of the Bible—like a CEV Bible—that’s easy for you to understand. Turn to the Bible Reading Program on pages 12 to 23 and look at today’s date. You’ll notice that there are three columns:
pl e
C If you are 8 years old or younger, read the first column of Scripture
with the heading ‘Starting line’.
C If you are aged 9 or 10 years, the readings in the ‘Starting line’ and
‘A bit further ...’ are for you.
m
C If you are 11 or 12 years old, go ‘All the way!’ and tackle the readings
in all three columns.
Sa
Then turn to those chapters in your Bible, asking God to teach you what you need to learn.
2. Read the passage(s) If you have your own Bible, you might like to underline or highlight any words that stand out for you as you read.

3. Write your Daily Pages This is where your REAP friends come in! Turn to a new page in your ‘Daily Pages’ and write in each box. R.E.A.P stands for:
– Read (your Bible) – Explore – Apply – Pray.

in the ‘R’ box. Explore E x p l o r e what God is trying to teach you—write down anything about the passages that sticks out to you in the ‘E’ box. Apply A p p l y what you have learnt! In the ‘A’ box, write your answer to this question: ‘How will I be different today because of what I have just read?’ Think about those times when you are at school, home, church and with friends. Pray P r a y. Use the ‘P’ box to write out a prayer about what you have read and then, pray it.
pl e
•
Read R e a d the day’s passages and write down part or all of the Scripture
m
•
Write the date at the top of your journal entry and give it a title— something that describes what you have just written. The Bible tells us that when you make time to be with God and read with an open heart, God’s words will help your faith to grow (Mark 4:20); the Lord will encourage, help and teach you (2 Timothy 3:16).
4. Make a ‘go to’ list
5. Pray
|
Finish your special time with God by praying your written prayer and by praying for other things that are on your mind and heart.
R EA P J OUR NAL
Turn to the Table of Contents page and write your entry by date, Scripture verse, title and page number. There’s an example for you to follow on the first line on page 7. This will be your ‘go to’ list when you want to look up something you remember learning about.

Dear Jesus, Please help me to put other people’ people’s s needs and feelings before my own. Help me to remember that your son Jesus was humble and gave up all his greatness to come to earth and die for us. Amen.

... train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. 1 Timothy 4:7–8 If you’re training to be an athlete or concert pianist, you’ll no doubt have a daily workout or regime to get you to your goal. So, how do you train to be godly? By devoting yourself to the word of God and being disciplined in allocating time to its study and meditation! Sound difficult? It doesn’t have to be! This REAP journal will help you to reach your spiritual goals with an easy-to-use format and a daily Bible Reading Program to keep you on track. Unless you’ve got a ‘total recall’ brain, you’re going to forget the stuff that God is teaching you through his Word. Grab this journal, write stuff down and see your life transformed.
