Restoration Times expounds the close ties between the Old and New Testaments. We teach the continuity and harmony that extend from Yahweh’s actions anciently down through His present activity in Yahshua the Messiah. This was also the conviction of the early New Testament Assembly. This publication is sent free of charge, made possible through the tithes and offerings of those who desire to see the truth of Scripture restored in our day. © 2018 Yahweh’s Restoration Ministry

The

Inconvenient Truth by Alan Mansager

True worship is not about comfort or convenience. Until the Bible believer realizes that he or she must make regular, sacrificial commitments to Yahweh, then devotion will continue to be self-focused and off track. This lesson is especially borne out by the Feast of Weeks or Pentecost.

T

he following comment was in an online blog: “Just as Christmas is the birthday of the Savior, so Pentecost is the birthday of the Holy Spirit.” Ignorance of the Scriptures is more widespread now than ever. Sermons decades ago left the teaching of the Word to indulge in feel-good fluff. Yahweh said to Job in chapter 38 what He could just as well have said today: “Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?” Many have proved the verity of Scripture when it says the more you obey the Word the greater will be your understanding of that Word, Psalm 111:10. There is no better opportunity for understanding than that found in Yahweh’s appointed observances. When the Truth-seeker first comes to the knowledge of the Feasts he or she typically must let go of all the bogus baggage from his or her religious past. A big part of learning Truth is unlearning error. Each of the Feasts presents an opportunity to gain further insight into Yahweh’s salvation plan for His people. But because churchianity rarely touches the subject of the Kingdom and the believer’s future place in it, it is consistent that the church also ignores the Feasts.

The Call at Pentecost

Great dramas often have an intriguing beginning. So, too, does the Feast of Weeks or Firstfruits, which shows Yahweh calling out a future “harvest” of chosen people to join Yahshua, the first Firstfruits, in worldwide rulership from Jerusalem. A strong agricultural theme runs throughout the Scriptures, providing key insights into the plan of salvation. The seven annual observances are embedded in the agricultural harvests and reflect spiritual truths and insights into what is in store in the spiritual harvests of the faithful. There was never any question that the Israelites in the Old Testament would observe all of Yahweh’s Feasts. There was never any doubt that the apostles and disciples would also sacrifice of themselves to keep these moedim or special times. Personal service was taken for granted as part of true worship, established by Yahshua Himself. We learn through personal sacrifice to put Yahweh first in our lives. If He requires us to observe special times for Him, then we comply without question. The commands in Exodus 12 and 23, and Leviticus 23 tell us that if we put Yahweh first He will put us first both now and in His Kingdom. The worship model that churchianity practices has little to do with what Yahweh commands and accepts. An hour or less

Most who sit briefly in the pew on Sunday morning consider their obligation to worship as met for another week. Once he leaves the church today’s worshiper believes he is free to go out and do whatever his heart desires, like cleaning chores, yard work, entertainment or weekend employment. But is that what the Scriptures teach about the day of worship? Keep Your Appointment

Unlike Yahweh’s observances, today’s worship and holidays are discretionary, observed only if they fit into one’s schedule. No wonder that many who are fresh out of that loose system of tradition sometimes have a difficult time realizing that Yahweh’s mandates are unyielding and inflexible. Yahweh demands far greater involvement than anemic and misplaced church traditions and practices that are more trivial than Truth. Half-hour worship on Sunday equates to one-day misfires like Xmas and Easter. In contrast, Yahweh commands the entire Sabbath be set aside in worship of Him. He also requires special, week-long holy times so that we get the full spiritual lesson of each. He is not interested in quick-and-easy devotion tailored around the worshiper. He wants devotion to Him, not to us. Yahshua set the stage at Unleavened Bread to become the first of the Firstfruits depicted by the barley wavesheaf offering at the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Firstfruits Also at Pentecost

The next firstfruits lesson in salvation comes at the feast appropriately called Firstfruits, also known as the Feast of Weeks or Pentecost with its wheat harvest. Pentecost also provides the means through the Holy Spirit by which Yahweh’s salvation message is taken to all the world. In Exodus 34:22 Yahweh reviews the covenant by commanding, “And thou shalt observe the feast of weeks, of the firstfruits of wheat harvest, and the feast of ingathering at the year’s end.” The concept of firstfruits is foreign to those who believe that today is the only day of salvation. Because of faulty teachings, they don’t grasp the fact that Yahweh is not calling everyone now. If He were, the record of His success would be dismal. The fact is, not everyone is called and only a few among those called will be chosen, Matthew 22:14. Because the Truth has been nearly Times Magazine 4 Restoration May-June 2018

ignored for 2,000 years, there is a mountain’s worth of ignorance about the potential destiny of the called and what they must do now to be worthy of salvation. “But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage,” Luke 20:35. “Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of Elohim, that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of Elohim, for which you also suffer,” 2Thessalonians 1:5. The Kingdom is about the elect who will receive the choice positions of governing when Yahshua returns. They equate to the Firstfruits of the wheat or Pentecost harvest. When you realize what it means to be called of Yahweh, you begin to understand why the

Yahshua’s Purpose

Gardeners know that the firstfruits of the harvest are the first to come to fruition (fruit-ition), and are anticipated with great expectation. Yahshua was the Firstfruit of many for the Kingdom harvest. Think of how Yahshua was received and then think of yourself following the same path. Here is what our Savior Yahshua faced: • The religious leaders hated and feared Him. • The average man didn’t understand Him or even realize why He came. Many thought He was just another religious fanatic like the many imposters suddenly appearing out of nowhere. • Most were clueless about what Yahshua taught and why.

Yahweh demands far greater involvement than anemic and misplaced church traditions and practices that are more trivial than Truth. acceptance of Truth is so difficult for most. Yahshua said His teachings are a narrow path and not many will find them. True Worship and Its Challenges

Following are some of the reasons few will leave the broad way of nominal worship to follow the narrow way of salvation: • because it demands total submission to the One who is worshiped, which goes against the grain of human nature; • because it requires real changes in one’s beliefs and practices, throwing out cherished but unscriptural beliefs and practices that have been ingrained through the years; • because it requires special determination and humility of heart; • because it involves overhauling of one’s thinking and life, as well as an open and perceptive mind to realize how necessary change is; • because many are in their comfort zones and will resist anything new or different; • because in the eyes of an unregenerate, unenlightened world, the Truth is marginalized, and for the weak-willed, that can present a significant deterrent. After 2,000 years, Yahshua’s teachings are still cutting edge as they blaze the trail and open the way to salvation.

• His New Testament movement, furthered by the Apostles, was called a sect or a heresy (read “cult”) of the Nazarenes. • The animosity of the religious leadership got the Apostles persecuted and killed, according to the Bible and history. Today’s evangelicals preach a prosperity message of material blessings and happiness now for those who support their ministries. Yahshua promised the converse for those who follow Him. “And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endures to the end shall be saved,” Matthew 10:22. The Truth is not a downhill ride on Easy Street: “In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world,” Yahshua said in John 16:33. The Apostle Paul understood very well the concept of firstfruits as he writes of it in 1Corinthians 15:22-23: “For as in Adam all die, even so in Messiah shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Messiah the firstfruits [wavesheaf]; afterward they that are Messiah’s at His Coming.” Fifty days later the second firstfruits offering is presented at the Feast of harvest. This larger harvest symbolizes the saints

who have been specially chosen now for an incredible position in His Kingdom. Finally, the general harvest occurs in the autumn, at the Feast of Tabernacles – also called the Feast of Ingathering. In Leviticus 23:1-2 Yahweh said to Moses, “Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of Yahweh, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts.” If His Feasts were an invention of the Jews, like the holidays churchianity has invented, then opponents might have a case for avoiding them. But the annual Feasts are owned, operated, and commanded by Yahweh, the one they claim to worship. Their criticism of His days is not only futile but also perilous. Their volleys should instead be fired at the pointless inventions bought and paid for by man alone, like Xmas, Easter, Valentine’s, and Halloween. A Feast to Count On

Now read 23:15-16: “And ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the sabbath, from the day that ye brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven sabbaths shall be complete: Even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto Yahweh.” Verse 21: “And ye shall proclaim on the selfsame day, that it may be an holy convocation unto you: ye shall do no servile work therein: it shall be a statute for ever in all your dwellings throughout your generations.” The Feast of Weeks continues in Acts 1 of the New Testament. This “Pentecost” was 10 days after Yahshua’s ascension to heaven. The proper timing is central to many truths. Had the disciples left Jerusalem or had they not come for the Feast of Firstfruits, or Shavuoth, they would not have been present to receive the Holy Spirit. The lesson is also for us. If we are not keeping His Feasts by gathering with other believers on these days, we could miss out on the blessings that come with obedience when Yahshua returns to make up His jewels, Malachi 3:17. Yahweh is clear that His Feasts are not optional, they are an obligation for all His True Worshipers. Indications are that Yahshua will return at a Feast, at a “time appointed” or moed, as Daniel 8:19 reveals. When the woman (assembly) is carried away

on eagle’s wings into the wilderness it will be for three and a half years of protection. The pattern was set when ancient Israel was taken into the wilderness to keep a Feast to Yahweh, as Moses told Pharaoh. Yahweh is serious about serving Him. Recall what He did for Israel. Yahweh protected them, fed them, guided them, defeated their enemies, performed miracles for them, healed them, and more. Exodus 19:4 reads, “Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself.” Compare Yahweh’s actions in Exodus with the end-time prophecy in Revelation 12:6: “And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of Elohim, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.” We see spiritual Israel at the end times : • taken to the wilderness (just as Israel was); • to a place prepared of Yahweh (we are to keep a Feast where Yahweh places His Name, just as Israel did . Your own backyard is not a place prepared of Yahweh but one you prepared yourself). Israel had to leave their homes or die in miserable bondage; to follow Truth, we in the New Testament must come out of the Egypt of this world; • being fed for a period of time – three and one-half years (just as we feed on Yahweh’s Word at His Feasts and as Israel fed on manna). Yahweh works in parallels and dualities, in type and antitype  –  especially with prophecy in its ancient and modern fulfillments. Suppose you are gathered with the brethren at a Feast like Unleavened Bread, Pentecost or Trumpets – the three possible times of Yahshua’s return. The faithful will find protection from end-time tribulations, while others who are not feast-observant will be left to fend for themselves against Satan’s final attacks on the world. Keeping His feasts is the protective equivalent of putting blood around the door – as did Israel at the Passover. The Bible is an intricate lattice of Truth. Most everything in it has a parallel or link to something else in another place and time. Its depth is mind-boggling and its truths are for all generations. We see it through a dark glass. We see only the protruding tip, while the rest lies submerged and out of sight.

Spirit Action for a Teaching Purpose

Back to Acts 1. Yahshua continues advising the disciples in verse 5, showing an improvement in New Testament immersion through the giving of the Holy Spirit. “When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Master, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth” vv.6-8. Power is the Greek dunamis – from which we get the word dynamite. Verse 8 explains what the power of dunamis is for: To be a witness of Yahshua throughout all the earth. Too often the thinking is that I must get baptized and receive the Holy Spirit for the sake of my salvation. Completely missed is this other reason the Holy Spirit is given. There is a purpose for being called out of this world. An eternity of sitting around on clouds strumming harps is not part of it. Nor is it to sit back and say, “Well, now that I’m saved, there’s nothing more to do.”      Act 5:32 reads, “And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Spirit, whom Elohim has given to them that obey Him.” Pentecost in Acts 2 signals a time to get moving. There is a boatload of work to do before Yahshua’s return. Yahweh expects action, not jawboning. That is why He bestows the Holy Spirit on the obedient. He knows they will do the job. Just sitting around talking is the pastime of Greek philosophers, who lived pointless lives. It has been said, “Talk is cheap. Words are plentiful. But deeds are precious.” Too often when all is said and done, more is said than done. Yahweh’s Kingdom is filled with action, accomplishment, building, reforming – in a word, work. Yahshua said I work and my Father works. The human body is created for action, to move, to labor, not for sitting passively in rocking chairs. Our bones are living levers, our muscles are motors. Our thumbs are for holding and grabbing. Our brains are computers planning the next task. In Genesis 2:15 Yahweh put Adam in the garden and told him to dress and keep Restoration Times Magazine May-June 2018

it. Work it Adam. Till it and guard it. He commands six days of work to one day of rest, not the reverse. Satisfaction comes after a day’s work well done. Someone said, “Nothing is easy, but who wants nothing?” And that’s all you get lounging in your La-Z-Boy instead of applying the talents and gifts you’ve been given to do Yahweh’s will. Work of the Ministry

The purpose of a ministry is not just to fellowship with the choir. To fulfill the Great Commission that began at Pentecost we must put on the Big Smith overalls, roll up our sleeves, and commit. We multiply our given talents by helping others find the truth to everlasting life. As the old song says, work, for the night is coming when man’s work is done. YRM is a full-service, working ministry and we take advantage of every outreach means available: electronic, print, and personal contact. We work as hard each week as any farmer working the farm. We don’t hire out even the physical work of building and maintaining the facilities if we can do it ourselves. While writing articles and booklets, preparing weekly Sabbath sermons and video programs, growing the website, answering phone and email correspondence, and personal visits when we can, we also have ongoing special projects like the RSB. If you want to see knees and elbows in motion, come visit YRM. A family from out west came early for the Feast of Unleavened Bread and within five minutes of learning that he was a contractor by trade, we had him working in the rec center painting walls. Yahweh is a Mighty One of activity and creativity, purpose and function. He expects nothing less of His people. Yahshua talked a lot about drive and ambition, getting out and doing the job of teaching the Truth to the world. As we learn by the Pentecost account in Acts 2, the Holy Spirit is not just for show, as in fireworks to dazzle the eyes and excite the imagination or to draw attention to oneself in charismatic demonstrations. The Spirit is given to accomplish a work and change lives, it’s the power mentioned in Acts 1:8. Looking at the panorama of Yahweh’s Feast days, we see something dynamic operating on a high, spiritual level – all

aimed at Kingdom salvation. The disciples got it right about Yahshua establishing a Kingdom, but they got the timing wrong. It wouldn’t happen for millennia. The appointed times tell the salvation plan. • Passover is Yahweh separating a people out from the Egypt of sin. • This is followed with the eating of unleavened bread, meaning rooting out falsity from our lives and hearts and replacing it with truth. • Then comes the Feast of Weeks, where we are empowered with the Holy Spirit to help us live obediently and to share the truth of Yahweh. His people are ambassadors of the greatest power in the universe and they will be vindicated one day if they stay faithful. This Holy Spirit force is manifest by the many gifts it bestows, detailed in 1Corinthians 12, like wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, prophecy, even just the resolve and stamina to keep going in the face of overwhelming opposition. Each of us is given one or more of the Holy Spirit gifts when we are immersed into Yahshua’s Name. Now notice how that promise was fulfilled in Acts 2. Peter Became a Changed Man

Peter and the rest had been waiting in the upper hall. “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.” In John 20:22, after Yahshua had resurrected, He stood in the room with the disciples and breathed on those who were there and gave them the firstfruits of the Holy Spirit. That same breath of life made Adam a living human. The Spirit is the energy, the force of Yahweh by which He accomplishes all things. Verse 4 says they were all filled with other tongues, which is the Greek heteros, meaning different kinds of tongues or glossa, languages. This is confirmed in verse 8 where each heard each one speak in their own native language or tongue, from the Greek dialektos, which is a language dialect. In verse 12 the people wanted to know what was meant by what they heard – not

how they said it but what they said, which was the wonderful works of Yahweh, verse 11. The power of Peter’s preaching through the gift of the Holy Spirit convicted 3,000 people! Yahweh is accomplishing His ends with dynamite, not fireworks. Work is getting accomplished. The world is being moved. People are being shaken from their malaise. Feasts Come in One Package

Popular worship is so solidly entrenched in error that most firmly hold to their beliefs thinking there is no other way. Only the dynamite of the Holy Spirit will loosen many from their false assumptions and traditions. Israel was released from Egypt at Passover, to be purged of their error during the Feast of Unleavened Bread. At the Feast of Firstfruits they received Yahweh’s law, His blueprint for the Kingdom. At the Acts 2 Feast the Holy Spirit was given to help us align with His laws and take His message of Truth to the world, as was done immediately at that time. When the disciples left that Pentecost Feast, they started their work. The rest of Acts is a testimony to what the apostles accomplished. Pentecost is the one biblical Feast day that churchianity respects for at least two reasons: the Holy Spirit was sent by Yahweh on this day to those desiring to follow the Truth; the other is that churchianity teaches that it was on this Feast day when the “New Testament church” was born in Acts 2. So to reject this day is to disavow what they think were their own beginnings. The six other biblical observances are just as significant and present truths as significant. Does Yahweh allow us to decide which of His days to keep and which to ignore? If we accept one then scripturally we must accept them all. All of Yahweh’s Holy Days are presented as a total package, with the clear admonition that these are the Feasts of Yahweh (not just Feasts of Jews), Leviticus 23:4. The great disconnect today is not taking to heart the vital link found in the covenants. The New Covenant is essentially the same as the Old with a few changes in priesthood and sacrifices. Surprising to most is that the New Testament mentions Moses 78 times.

“Moses” is tantamount to saying “the law.” It is just another proof that the Old Testament is an essential part of New Testament teaching. John wrote, “Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the Word which you have heard from the beginning,” 1John 2:7. The only Word they had at that time and from the beginning was the Old Testament. Verse 24 continues, “Let that therefore abide in you, which you have heard from the beginning. If that which you have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, you also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.” Continue is meno, meaning “remain, stay in a given place, state, relation.” Yahshua kept every one of the Feast days. He said He kept His Father’s commandments and we are to follow Him, John 15:10. He did so perfectly, without fail, 1Peter 2:21-22.

weeks shall you number unto you: begin to number the seven weeks from such time as you begin to put the sickle to the corn. And you shall keep the feast of weeks unto Yahweh your Elohim with a tribute of a freewill offering of your hand, which you shall give unto the Yahweh your Elohim, according as Yahweh your Elohim has blessed you: And you shall rejoice before Yahweh your Elohim, you, and your son, and your daughter, and your manservant, and your maidservant, and the Levite that is within your gates, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are among you, in the place which the Yahweh your Elohim has chosen to place His name there.” This Feast is marked by offerings and rejoicing. It was at the time of this Feast of Firstfruits that Israel received the law at Sinai, which can be determined by synchronizing the timeline of their wilderness trek with the timing of the Feast. The biblical Feasts symbolize the spiritual journey Yahweh’s people make

To fulfill the Great Commission that began at Pentecost we must put on the Big Smith overalls, roll up our sleeves, and commit. Yahshua never performed a single act, teach a single Truth, command a single law or precept that was not given to Him by Yahweh. “I did not come to do my own will but the Fathers. As the Father taught me so I do.”

coming out of the world and following the ways of Yahweh. Seeking Truth is also a wilderness adventure that most have never been on. It cuts through the wilderness and badlands of ignorance.

Mistaken Fantasies

A miracle occurs when Yahweh’s Spirit works in a person, as a spark of interest turns into an unquenchable quest for more. The thrust of the Feast of Firstfruits centers on Truth. In Acts 2, after the 120 received the power of the Holy Spirit, they began to teach Truth boldly and powerfully. Peter, the half-engaged disciple who typically spouted off first, was now a changed man. He gave such a stirring message that 3,000 people sought and received baptism in the Name of Yahshua. He became a seriously driven man literally overnight. Pentecost had transformed him. Peter and John spoke with unbridled force, energy, and boldness in Acts 4:13. These “unlearned and ignorant men” began to turn the world upside down. Miracles began happening,

To teach that Yahweh disposed of the Old Testament precepts and started over with the New Testament is to say He made a grievous error introducing the Old Testament in the first place. Is it just coincidence that the New Testament quotes or refers to the Old Testament 250 times, mostly about obedience? Did the New Testament writers use the wrong manuscripts? Maybe they taught by mistake what was supposed to have been done away! At least that is a false conclusion if church teachings about the Old Testament are correct. Another command to keep the Feast of Weeks is in Deuteronomy 16:9-11: “Seven

Miraculous Work of the Spirit

and these apostles had power they had never experienced. The Feast of Firstfruits shows us that Yahweh’s laws exist beyond the physical sphere. Now the spiritual intent of obedience must be emphasized. The real purpose for obedience becomes clear through the right attitude. Hebrews 8:10 tells us that Yahweh’s laws are put into the minds of the Believers and written on their hearts. In biblical terms, writing something on one’s heart means to obey from the deepest inner desire. This was prophesied in Ezekiel 11:1920: “And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh: That they may walk in my statutes, and keep mine ordinances, and do them: and they shall be my people, and I will be their Elohim.” We “take to heart” Yahweh’s laws when those laws are on our hearts. Those who have the Spirit will rise at the return of Yahshua. The power conveyed by the Spirit to guide and teach them will be used now and in the Kingdom. Those not in the firstfruits resurrection may be in the second resurrection. We find no mention of what those others will do in the Kingdom, however. Yet we assume they will have a place because in Yahshua’s parable we see bridesmaids as well as the bride. The bridesmaids are at the wedding but obviously for lesser roles than the bride of Messiah May we be found worthy to be the bride of Messiah, and teach others about the Kingdom on earth from the Truths we have learned. This present world has an expiration date that is not too far in the future, but the Kingdom is forever.

Gomorrah A Legacy of Judgment by Randy Folliard

Disclaimer: Due to the content of this article, reader discretion is advised.

I

n this installment of the Holy Land series, we focus on the ancient site of Gomorrah. While not recognized by all, some believe that the biblical Gomorrah has been rediscovered. In our 2016 pilgrimage to Israel we visited this location and were amazed at what we found. Along with a skyline that resembled the shape of buildings, we found an area of ash with sulfur balls scattered throughout. Specimens are on exhibit at Yahweh’s Restoration Ministry. Gomorrah sits below Masada and near the Dead Sea. From Masada a remarkable site can be seen. The area known as Gomorrah is clearly visible with its white ash contrasting with the light brown of the Judean desert surrounding it. Because Gomorrah, along with its sister-city Sodom and a few others, was destroyed in the days of Abraham, there is not much history to be told. Gomorrah is mentioned by name in the King James Bible 19 times in 14 passages. The most important lesson of Gomorrah and Sodom is what it represents and the punishment they suffered. Gomorrah symbolizes the worst kind of sin – the practice and open acceptance of homosexuality. It was for this reason that Yahweh destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah and three other cities Times Magazine 8 Restoration May-June 2018

in the valley they were in. Even though Abraham pleaded with Yahweh to show restraint, because of the absolute wickedness of these cities Yahweh had no choice but to annihilate them and those living in them. This destruction is chronicled in the 19th chapter of Genesis. Wicked Desires

The saga begins in Genesis 19:1: “And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground; And he said, Behold now, my sovereigns, turn in, I pray you, into your servant’s house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night. And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat. But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them. And Lot went out at the door unto them,

and shut the door after him, And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly. Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof. And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will now be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door. But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door. And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door,” vv. 1-11. As the two angels approached the city, Lot, Abraham’s nephew, immediately recognized that there was something special about them. He addressed them with “my sovereigns,” a term from the Hebrew adown. Lot would convince the men to lodge with him in the city. That same night, the men of Sodom came to Lot’s house demanding that he release his visitors to them. The purpose was to “know them.” This phrase is describing the most appalling acts imaginable, homosexuality.

As difficult as it may be to imagine, the men of Sodom were so depraved that they were trying to force themselves upon these two holy beings at Lot’s home. Matthew Henry’s Commentary notes, “…it was the most unnatural and abominable wickedness that they were now set upon, a sin that still bears their name, and is called Sodomy. They were carried headlong by those vile affections, which are worse than brutish, and the eternal reproach of the human nature, and which cannot be thought of without horror by those that have the least spark of virtue and any remains of natural light and conscience.” Adam Clarke’s Commentary states, “This account justifies the character given of this depraved people in the preceding chapter, Gen 18:20, and in Gen 13:13. As their crime was the deepest disgrace to human nature, so it is too bad to be described, in the sacred text it is sufficiently marked; and the iniquity which, from these most abominable wretches, has been called Sodomy, is punished in our country with death.” To placate their desire, Lot even offered up his virgin daughters. However, this would not satisfy their wickedly carnal wants. The two angels with Lot had had enough. They pulled Lot back into the home and smote the

men outside with blindness. The next day Lot was told to flee Sodom with his family. As he escaped Yahweh’s judgment fell upon the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. “Then Yahweh rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from Yahweh out of heaven; And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground,” 19:24-25. Yahweh completely obliterated Sodom and Gomorrah with brimstone and fire. Nothing remained. Josephus in Antiquities of the Jews, book 1, chapter 11, states that Yahweh “condemned the Sodomites to universal destruction.” Evidence of this destruction can be seen today at the ancient site of Gomorrah. The complete destruction serves as a reminder of what happens when a society accepts the sin of homosexuality. A Sin Against the Divine Blueprint

What makes homosexuality or sodomy so vile in the eyes of our Heavenly Father? When Yahweh created mankind He did so through one man and one woman. This was the blueprint for marriage. Therefore, any relationship outside of this is against His design, including homosexuality. One of the purposes of marriage is procreation. Two people of the same

gender cannot procreate. For this reason such a union is not only against His divine blueprint, but against nature itself. Leviticus 18:22 commands against the sin of sodomy. It reads, “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.” The NIV says, “Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable.” The word “abomination” is used to describe the worst of offenses. It comes from the Hebrew tow’ebah. Strong’s defines this word as, “…something disgusting (morally), i.e. an abhorrence.” Vine’s Expository Dictionary of Biblical Words provides a similar definition, “…abomination; loathsome, detestable thing.” From these definitions is there any doubt as to how Yahweh views homosexuality? It’s remarkable how many, including those who claim to follow the Bible, are now accepting this sin, including entire churches and denominations. Some have gone so far as to ordain practicing homosexuals to the ministry. New Testament Examples

We also find Yahweh’s abhorrence of homosexuality in the New Testament. There is no greater condemnation than in the first chapter of Romans: Restoration Times Magazine May-June 2018

“For this cause Elohim gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain Elohim in their knowledge, Elohim gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient,” vv. 26-28. Paul defines homosexuality as “vile affection.” The word “vile” is from the Greek atimia and refers to something that is “disgraceful or shameful.” Not only does the Bible define sodomy as a morally disgusting sin, but also shameful. While many professing Bible believers try to justify homosexuality, the Bible is quite clear as to how our Heavenly Father views it. He is the One who matters. It is so repugnant to Him that He declares that sodomites will not be allowed in His Kingdom. Paul in 1Corinthians 6:910 states, “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of Yahweh? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of Yahweh.” The phrase “abusers of themselves with mankind” is from the Greek arsenokoites and refers to a sodomite. Thayer’s Greek Lexicon states, “…one who lies with a male as with a female, a sodomite, a homosexual.” Moral Collapse of a Nation

On June 26, 2015, the U.S. Supreme Court legalized homosexual marriage in all 50 states. This was a turning point for this once great nation. Regardless of what some might claim, America was established on biblical morals and values. Our founders understood the absolute need for living moral lives and biblical values for the long-term success of this republic. George Washington in his farewell address said, “Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable.” Washington recognized that religion was essential to the success and achievement of a nation.

10

Restoration Times Magazine May-June 2018

It’s remarkable how far we’ve strayed from these principles since these words were spoken. If Washington were alive today he would likely be aghast at the “progress” of this land. We’ve gone from a nation that embraced biblical principles to one that now pushes those values aside and embraces what Scripture condemns. Washington was not the only founder who saw value in religion. James Madison, our fourth president, spoke these words to the General Assembly of the State of Virginia in 1778: “We have staked the whole future of American civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it. We’ve staked the future of all our political institutions upon our capacity…to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God.” What an amazing acknowledgment from Madison. He realized that without the Bible and the Ten Commandments we would fail as a nation. He understood that success was not found in the power of government, but in the ability of people to govern themselves according to biblical values. One of the most revealing statements was not spoken by a founder of this country or even an American, but by an outsider who admired America’s greatness. Alexis de Tocqueville was a French diplomat, political scientist, and historian who lived between 1805 and 1859. In his work, Democracy in America, he wrote: “I sought for the greatness and genius of America in her commodious harbors and her ample rivers – and it was not there. . . . . in her fertile fields and boundless forests – and it was not there. . . . .in her rich mines and her vast world commerce – and it was not there. . . . in her democratic Congress and her matchless Constitution – and it was not there. Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because she is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, she will cease to be great.” This man came to America trying to discover its greatness. After traveling and reviewing many of this nation’s highest and most important institutions, he discovered a key truth – America’s greatness lay in its pulpits. It was its morality that made America preeminent. He closed with an ominous warning about losing that standard. Sadly, this fall from greatness has occurred. We can no longer claim to be great because we have forsaken the key biblical values we

once embraced. No other book than the Bible has had more impact on the foundation and success of America. It’s a shame to see just how far we’ve deviated. Not only is homosexuality now accepted by a majority in this nation, but now we’re seeing debate rage about transgenderism and other perversions. This is what happens when a culture rejects Yahweh’s Word for humanism. Yahshua the Messiah in His Olivet prophecy said that lawlessness would increase before His coming. We’re beginning to see the fulfillment of this prophecy. The fact that homosexuality is becoming so widely accepted illustrates how skewed we have become as a nation. The Wide Impact of Homosexuality

In addition to the biblical condemnation, some serious dangers are connected to homosexuality. One area where this is painfully obvious is with HIV and AIDS. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, “In the United States, gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM) are the population most affected by HIV. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 67% of people diagnosed with HIV in 2015 in the United States were gay and bisexual men. Among all gay and bisexual men, African Americans are the racial/ethnic group most affected by HIV. CDC reports that in 2015, more African-American gay and bisexual men were newly diagnosed with HIV than white or Hispanic-Latino gay and bisexual men.” According to a recent Gallup Poll, only 4 percent of Americans identify as being part of the LGBT community. This is a surprisingly low number, especially when we consider that 67 percent of those who contract HIV are within this demographic. What conclusion can we draw from these statistics? Those who practice homosexuality are at great risk for HIV/ AIDS. Some say, rightfully so, that this is divine punishment for those who disregard Yahweh’s Word. The negative impact of homosexuality goes beyond HIV. Consider the following from the website Homosexuality and Science: • A research that focused on countries with long history of gay marriage i.e. Denmark and Norway, showed that married gays and lesbians have a shorter lifespan than

his recent trip to South America. “Collectively these events signal a church that is more open to welcoming the LGBT community and the diverse realities of the modern family than it was two years ago. After the Supreme Court’s ruling in support of same-sex marriage last month, Blase Cupich, Pope Francis’s handpicked archbishop of Chicago, said the church’s respect for LGBT individuals ‘must be real, not rhetorical, and ever reflective of the Church’s commitment to accompanying all people.’ Such language would have been rare two years ago.” Separate from Sin

their conventionally married counterparts – by 24 years! • A study on childhood and adolescent molestation also found rates of sexual abuse reported by homosexual adults to be almost 7 times higher for homosexual men, and 22 times higher for homosexual women, compared to their heterosexual counterparts. This strongly suggests that minors can be sexualized towards homosexuality upon exposure to homosexual stimulus or homosexual abuse. • Latest research shows that children raised by homosexual parents experience more problems than children raised by married heterosexual parents. Also, according to Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry, “…homosexuals are about 50 percent more likely to suffer from depression and engage in substance abuse than the rest of the population.” This increase in depression also accounts for an increase in suicide. In addition to the impact to individuals, homosexuality also impacts culture. Below are just a few documented examples: • Taxpayers would be forced to support this sin, similar to funding abortion. • Freedom of conscience would be threatened. • Fewer people would marry, remain monogamous, and remain married. • Fewer children would be raised with a father or mother. • Birth rates would decrease. These are only a few of the impacts on a society that embraces homosexuality.

There is a reason our Heavenly Father calls homosexuality an abomination and a vile affection. It goes against His nature and carries many harmful effects to an individual and culture. Sodom and Gomorrah were so depraved that Yahweh could not find even ten righteous men. While it’s certain that Sodom and Gomorrah suffered from other sins, the sin that Yahweh singled out was homosexuality. These ancient cities serve as a microcosm of what happens when homosexuality is embraced on a large scale. Regardless of whether we refer to a city or nation, the results of this sin are the same. Catholics Move Toward Acceptance

In time we will likely see a growing acceptance of this sin, even among those who claim to believe in the Bible. Sadly, many churches are already making this transition. The Catholic Church under Pope Francis has made several concessions toward accepting homosexuality. Time, in an online article entitled, “The Pope Francis Statement That Changed the Church on LGBT Issues” (July 28, 2015) reported, “Throughout the first months of 2015, Pope Francis had several encounters with LGBT individuals and groups, including a transgender man from Spain who was excluded from his parish community, and gay and transgender prisoners in Naples. The Vatican also gave the VIP treatment to a pro-LGBT American Catholic group visiting Rome and the pope met with a gay Paraguayan activist during

While we at Yahweh’s Restoration Ministry would never endorse violence against anyone, including homosexuals, accepting and embracing this sin is a mistake and goes against the clear command of Scripture. As disciples of the Messiah we are told to make a distinction regarding those we befriend. Paul in 2Corinthians 6:14-18 states, “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Messiah with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of Elohim with idols? for ye are the temple of the living Elohim; as Elohim hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their Elohim, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith Yahweh, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith Yahweh Almighty.” Since Yahweh defines homosexuality as an abomination and vile affections, we can safely assume those who practice this sin would fall under the category of unrighteousness. According to Paul, those who follow Yahweh are not to have communion with those who embrace this lifestyle. Those who make this separation and live according to biblical standards will be sons and daughters of the Most High. There is not a greater promise. Therefore, let us not grow weary and allow the darkness of this world to cloud our judgment, but let us continue to serve as lights by discerning the sin of homosexuality. Unmasking the Woman by Randy Folliard

W

ho are the woman and beast of Revelation? What part will they play in end-time prophecy? Are they the same or different entities? We will provide the evidence supporting a conclusion that they represent the Roman Catholic Church and Islam, respectively. We will look to history, modern events, and most importantly to Scripture as our guides. Our journey begins in the 17th chapter of Revelation, “And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of

12

Restoration Times Magazine May-June 2018

blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Yahshua: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration. And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns,” verses 1-7. There are several points here to consider. First, it provides a vivid description of a woman (also called the whore or harlot) riding on a beast. The fact that the woman

rides on the beast conveys they are distinct from one another. The woman is not the beast and the beast is not the woman, but are two separate entities. However, the fact that the woman rides on the beast may suggest an alliance or coalition between the two. Interestingly, today we see a growing alliance between the Roman Church and Islam. As evidence of this budding relationship, consider the following excerpt from the Gatestone Institute, a conservative think tank focusing on the Middle East and Islam: “There is a disturbing and growing trend in Italy and Europe. For the first time in more than 700 years, Islamic songs resonated in Florence’s Cathedral, the Church Santa Maria del Fiore. Under the famous Dome of Brunelleschi, Islamic melodies accompanied Christian ones. The ‘interfaith initiative’ was promoted a week after the barbaric

and Beast of Revelation massacre by Islamist terrorists in Paris at the magazine Charlie Hebdo, and included ‘Koran is Justice’ and other such ‘hymns.’ “A priest in the south of Italy then enraged parishioners by dressing the Virgin Mary in a Muslim burqa for his church’s Christmas nativity scene. The pastor of the parish of Saints Joachim and Anne in Potenza, Father Franco Corbo, said that he had the special crèche constructed ‘in the name of dialogue among religions.’ These interfaith initiatives point to the gradual elimination of the Western-Christian heritage in favor of Islam. “Another priest in Italy also eliminated the Christmas nativity scene at the local cemetery because ‘it could offend Muslims.’ Father Sante Braggiè said there would be no crib in the cemetery in the northern city of Cremona because it may anger people of others faiths or people whose relatives are not buried there:

“‘A small corner of the cemetery is reserved for Muslim graves. A crib positioned within sight of them could be seen as a lack of respect for followers of other faiths, hurt the sensibilities of Muslims, as well as Indians and even atheists.’ “In Rebbio, the Italian parish church of St. Martin was preparing the end of Mass. Suddenly a veiled woman, Nour Fayad, took the floor and read the verses of the Koran which announce the birth of Christ. The initiative was intended by the priest, Don Giusto della Valle, as ‘a gesture of dialogue’” (gatestoneinstitute.org, Christian Clergy Welcomes Islam in Church, Then Bows to It). As we see, there’s a disturbing trend of Christianity embracing Islam. Pope Francis has publically embraced the Quran and defended Islam as a religion of peace. This notion that Islam is a religion of peace could

not be further from the truth. Antiquity and modern events both verify that Islam is not a religion of peace, but one of violence. It began with the sword and will end with the sword. It is a religion of peace only when all the world is Islamic. This trend of the Roman Church’s embracing Islam may be the key to this prophecy in Revelation. This passage seems to provide evidence that this woman, representing the Catholic Church, will form a partnership with the beast, symbolizing Islam. Evidence for the Catholic Church

You may be asking, what evidence do we have for the woman representing the Roman Catholic Church? For starters, Revelation 17:1 verifies that the woman sits on many waters. According to verse 15, the waters symbolize peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues. The Roman Church Restoration Times Magazine May-June 2018

is an international organization representing multiple nations, ethnicities, and languages. Wikipedia states that its global membership totals 1.29 billion. Scripture also shows that this woman has committed “fornication” with the kings of this earth. The word “fornication” comes from the Greek porneia. Strong’s defines porneia as, “harlotry (including adultery and incest); figuratively, idolatry.” The Thayer’s Greek Lexicon adds, “…metaphorically, the worship of idols; used of the defilement of idolatry….” Within the context of this passage, porneia probably refers to idolatry or false worship. Most people with an adequate level of understanding biblical truth and church history would agree that no organization is more accountable for today’s false worship than the Roman Church. It was the Church that adopted many of the heresies we see in worship. Consider the following sample of church doctrines that clearly contradict the clear teachings of Scripture: • Sunday worship • Easter • Halloween • Christmas • Trinity • Immortal soul • Heaven/Hell/Purgatory • Worship of angels/saints As seen from this list, the Catholic Church is responsible for many of the false beliefs and paganism we find in Christianity. Sadly, most Protestant churches have accepted and followed in this pattern. Revelation 17:6 states that this woman is also drunken with the blood of the saints. As many historians confirm, the church has a long history of oppression and persecution, especially against those who disagreed with it theologically. Consider the following quotation from History of the Rise and Influence of the Spirit of Rationalism in Europe: “That the Church of Rome has shed more innocent blood than any other institution that has ever existed among mankind, will be questioned by no Protestant who has a competent knowledge of history…It is impossible to form a complete conception of the multitude of her victims, and it is quite certain that no powers of imagination can adequately realize their sufferings” (Lecky, vol. 2, p. 32, 1910 edition). As well, John Dowling, a Baptist minister who lived in the 1800s, makes this Times Magazine 14 Restoration May-June 2018

alarming claim in his book, The History of Romanism: “From the birth of popery to the present time, it is estimated by careful and credible historians, that more than fifty millions of the human family, have been slaughtered for the crime of heresy by popish persecutors – an average of more than 40,000 religious murders for every year of the existence of popery to the present day. Of course the average number of victims yearly, was vastly greater, during those gloomy ages when popery was in her glory and reigned despot of the world; and it has been much less since the power of the popes has diminished to tyrannize over the nations, and to compel the princes of the earth, by the terrors of excommunication, interdiction, and deposition, to butcher their heretical subjects,” pp. 541-542, 1845. While we cannot validate the numbers set forth by John Dowling, there is no doubt that the Church has shed much blood over the last 2,000 years. As a side note, as with Islam, this observation is not meant as a condemnation of all Catholics, as there are many well-intentioned and sincere people in the Church today. That Great City

Another clue for the woman representing the Catholic Church is found in Revelation 17:18. It reads, “And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.” This passage provides two essential clues as to the identity of this woman. First, it symbolizes a great city and, second, it rules over the kings of the earth. Geographically, the Catholic Church is represented through the city of Rome. Within the modern city of Rome is Vatican City, which technically is a sovereign state. Vatican City is quite small. It’s roughly 110 acres in size with a population of about one thousand. Now the city of Rome proper is about 496 square miles with a population of 2.8 million and a metropolitan area numbering about 4.3 million. In addition to this woman representing a great city, which Rome would certainly qualify as, it also states that it rules over the kings of the earth. It may be best to view this second characteristic from a historical standpoint. In the last two millennia, Rome through the papacy has exerted great power and influence over the kings of the earth. Historically speaking, when we consider

the Roman Empire and the papacy, it would be hard to find another city more dominant than Rome. From Revelation 18 we find one additional clue as to the location of this great city: “And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning, Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come. And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more … The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls! For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off, And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city! And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate,” vv. 9-11, 15-18. This passage provides one critical geographical marker. When this woman is burned with fire, the merchant ships stand afar off lamenting. This verifies that this city is near a coastline. Interestingly, Rome is about 15 miles inland from the Tyrrhenian Sea. This would certainly be close enough for merchant ships to watch this city’s destruction. As a side note, this passage also provides evidence that this city is a major importer of goods. It is well documented that Vatican City imports nearly everything it consumes, another clue indicating the Church. Let’s now summarize the major prophecies connecting the woman of Revelation with the Roman Church. • The woman sits on many waters, symbolizing the international presence of the Roman Church. • The woman is accountable for spreading fornication to the kings of the earth, representing the widespread apostasy of the Roman Church.

• The woman is guilty for the blood of the saints, indicating the long history of persecution by the Roman Church. • The woman is identified as a great city that rules over the kings of the earth, indicating the city of Rome and its historical influence over world leaders. • This great city seems to be positioned along a coastline, representing the geographical position of Rome and Vatican City. While some of these prophecies might describe other cities, none seems to fit them all, except for the Roman Catholic Church and the city of Rome. Before discussing the beast this woman rides on, it’s key that we establish the biblical pattern that many Bible students miss. This pattern is found in two separate, but related, prophecies in the Book of Daniel. This truth will be crucial when discussing the identity of the beast, especially its seven heads.

of potters’ clay, part of iron, kingdom shall be divided; b u t there

and the

The Metallic Man

The first passage is Daniel 2:36-43: “This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king. Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the Elah of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory. And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold. And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth. And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise. And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part

shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay. And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle

themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.” This image described by Daniel was seen by Nebuchadnezzar in a dream and the prophet Daniel was able to interpret dreams. In his dream Nebuchadnezzar saw a metal man with a head of gold, chest and arms of silver, belly and thighs of brass, legs of iron, and toes mixed with iron and clay. In his interpretation, Daniel had said to Nebuchadnezzar that he the king was the head of gold. Even though Daniel does not identify the rest of the parts, scholarly consensus states that the chest and arms of silver together go to symbolize the Persian Empire, with the arms representing the Medes and Persians. The belly and thighs of brass indicate Greece and the two legs of iron represent Rome. As many historians will point out, the Roman Empire had two halves, suggested by the two legs. It had a western half through Rome and an eastern half through Constantinople. We know that the western half of Rome fell in 476 CE, but the eastern half, which became known as the Byzantine Empire, continued for another 1,000 years, until its defeat by the Islamic Ottoman Turks in 1453. The last image Daniel mentions here are the ten toes of i r o n a n d c l a y. It’s important to realize that the ten toes are not historic, but prophetic. As Revelation reveals, they will Restoration Times Magazine May-June 2018

rule with the Antimessiah. For this reason, this prophecy must be placed in the future. The ten toes will be both strong and weak, as shown through the iron and clay. Being like clay, they will “mingle” or have a presence among the nations, but will not “cleave” or assimilate. One demographic in particular, whose presence is found in nearly every nation but who refuse to assimilate, is the Muslim population. It’s common for Muslims to insist upon retaining their own culture, including refusing to recognize the judicial system of their national residence. For example, several European countries have adopted Sharia law within their own judicial system, including: Britain, Sweden, and Germany. In most cases, these Sharia courts carry as much authority as the national court system, even though they often conflict, especially with regards to civil rights for women. In addition to the identity of these empires, we also see an important pattern. Each nation listed succeeded the one before it. Babylon was defeated by Persia, Persia was defeated by Greece, and Greece was defeated by Rome. This succession is crucial in the identification of the beast. Daniel’s Four Beasts

Before turning to Revelation, there is one additional passage to consider. In Daniel 7, starting in verse 2, we see another prophetic succession: “Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea. And four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse one from another. The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man’s heart was given to it. And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear, and it raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, Arise, devour much flesh. After this I beheld, and lo another, like a leopard, which had upon the back of it four wings of a fowl; the beast had also four heads; and dominion was given to it. After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were

16

before it; and it had ten horns,” vv. 2-7. In this passage Daniel sees a vision of four beasts with diverse characteristics. The representation here is similar to the metal man envisioned by Nebuchadnezzar. These four beasts characterize four different empires, starting with ancient Babylon. Let’s consider each beast separately. The first is depicted as a lion with wings of an eagle. The lion likely symbolizes strength and courage, while the wings of an eagle signify the growth of the Babylonian Empire. The clipped wings suggest the sudden cessation in growth hindered by the Persian Empire, which eventually conquered Babylon. The second beast is portrayed as a bear with three ribs in its mouth that devours much flesh. As with the lion, the bear signifies strength and the three ribs the three kingdoms Persia conquered, i.e., Media, Lydia, and Babylonia. The eating of much flesh refers to the many nations and peoples it conquered. The third beast is described as a leopard that had four wings on its back. The leopard exemplifies the rapid growth of the Grecian Empire under Alexander the Great. The four wings symbolize the four divisions of the empire after the death of Alexander. As we note in the 3rd edition of the Restoration Study Bible, “The ‘four notable ones’ are the four generals that inherited the Grecian Kingdom after the death of Alexander the Great, including: Seleucus (Syria and Babylon), Lysimachus (Asia Minor), Ptolemy (Egypt), and Cassander (Macedonia and Greece),” note on Daniel 8:8. Daniel prophesies a fourth beast as dreadful, terrible, strong exceedingly, and diverse from the three others. This fourth beast also has ten horn equating to the ten toes in the second chapter of Daniel. As the toes were prophetic in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, the same would also be true here. For this reason the fourth beast is not Rome as many believe, but is describing the beast system of Revelation. In fact, Dr. Bullinger in the Companion Bible states, “Not Rome, for it has the ‘ten horns’ when it is first seen. Moreover, these ten horns are not seen till the time of the end. This fourth beast therefore belongs to the time of the end.” With the exception of this fourth beast, we see a succession of empires, as in the previous passage. This succession is key in

unlocking the mystery of end-time prophecy. The Beast of Revelation

This fourth beast of Daniel is also described in the 17th chapter of Revelation: “And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space. And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition,” vv. 9-11. John is told here that the seven heads of the beast symbolize seven mountains. In Scripture mountains often imply nations. Micah, speaking of Yahweh’s millennial Kingdom, prophesies, “But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of Yahweh shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it,” 4:1. As “mountain” signifies a kingdom in Micah, the same is also true in Revelation 17:9. However, in this case it represents seven past and future kingdoms – five that had fallen, one that was, and another that is to come. It also describes an eighth, which is of the seven. Do we know who these kingdoms represent? As we note in the Restoration Study Bible, the five that had fallen may represent Egypt, Assyria, Neo-Babylon, Medo-Persia, and Greece. In place of Egypt and Assyria, it’s possible that the Seleucid and Ptolemaic empires after Greece may be indicated, as they both succeeded Alexander the Great and were defeated by Rome. The kingdom that existed when this prophecy was given was Rome. Rome as represented by the sixth kingdom is accepted by nearly all biblical scholars. This seventh empire is the one typically in dispute. While many believe this denotes a revised Roman Empire, we believe it represents the Ottoman Empire. As seen in Daniel 2 and 7, Revelation is likely describing a succession of seven empires. As already noted, Babylon was defeated by Persia, Persia was defeated by Greece, and Greece was defeated by Rome. The question then becomes, who defeated Rome? Some contend that Rome fell to the Barbarians and others say that it continued through the Roman church. But as seen

in the book of Daniel, the Roman Empire had two halves – one in the west under Rome and one in the east with its capital at Constantinople. While the western half of the Roman Empire fell in 476 CE, the eastern half continued for 1,000 more years until its defeat by the Ottoman Turks on May 29, 1453. Therefore, the Ottoman Empire likely makes this empire the seventh kingdom, from which the eighth and the Man of Sin will arise. The fulfillment of the eighth kingdom will be a revived Islamic Caliphate, similar to the Ottoman Empire. Author Walid Shoebat in his book, God’s War on Terror, states, “…the Empire of the Antichrist will not be a new empire; rather it will be the revival of a previous great empire that will have suffered what the Bible calls a ‘fatal head wound.’ …This empire is the Islamic Ottoman Empire which replaced the Roman Empire after the fall of its remaining Eastern section,” p. 81. Walid Shoebat was born to an Islamic father and Christian mother. He was raised as a Muslim and even identified himself early in life as an Islamic terrorist. He claims to have been part of the Palestinian Liberation Organization. However, after realizing the error of Islam, he converted to Christianity. With his background, Walid has a unique perspective. Instead of viewing prophecy through European eyes, he views it from a Middle Eastern standpoint. He believes, as we do, that the seventh empire represents the Ottoman Turks and the eighth empire a revised Islamic caliphate led by the Man of Sin or Antimessiah. Because biblical prophecy most often focuses on the Middle East, it is consistent that these prophecies would follow this pattern. Unveiling the Ten Kings

In verses 12-13, John of Patmos sheds light on the ten kings, “And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.” These ten kings correspond to the ten toes and ten horns as described in Daniel. As we see in Revelation, these kings will give their power and strength to the Beast. They will exist to support the Man of Sin. Many assume they point to the

European Union. However, the EU contains more than ten nations. As of this writing, the EU’s membership was at 28. Many years ago a Sacred Name minister named Ralph Henrie introduced another possibility to my wife’s late grandfather, Elder Donald Mansager. He noticed that Psalm 83 mentions a confederacy of ten specific nations. Psalms 83:4-8 reads, “They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee: The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes; Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre; Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot.” These ten nations will form a confederacy for one purpose and that is for the utter annihilation of Israel. Based on our research, this confederacy has not happened, which means this passage is prophetic. Considering the purpose of this alliance and the fact that ten nations are represented, it’s likely this prophecy provides the locations of the ten kings of Revelation. Based on scholarship, below are the likely locations of the ten nations mentioned in Psalms 83: • Edom - Southern Jordan • Ishmaelites - Arabs • Hagarenes - Egypt • Gebal - Lebanon • Ammon - Northern Jordan • Amalek - Sinai Peninsula • Philistines - Gaza Strip • Tyre - Lebanon • Assur - Syria and Iraq • Children of Lot -Jordan Interestingly, these nations are all Islamic and located in the Middle East. According to Walid Shoebat, there is a similar prophecy of a ten-member alliance in the Islamic world. He states on page 91 of his aforementioned book, “In 2002 a plan for the reestablishment of the Caliphate was written by…the Guiding Helper Foundation entitled, ‘The Plan for the Return of the Caliphate.’ According to the plan, the Caliph would be assisted in his rule by a ten-member council of ‘Assistant Caliphs.’ These assistants, or council members, are similar to Ministers

in many of today’s governments.” Based on Walid’s statement, not only does the Bible speak about a ten-nation confederacy, but we also see indications of this in Islam. The goal of a restored caliphate not only explains the current conflict between Islam and the West, but may also hold a key to the fulfillment of end-time prophecy. Islam to Destroy Rome?

Let’s summarize what we’ve learned through Revelation 17 and supporting passages: 1) there is strong indication that the woman represents the Roman Catholic Church; 2) the beast the woman rides on symbolizes Islam, and 3) the ten kings denote a ten-member alliance who will support the beast and seek to destroy the nation of Israel. With this in mind there is one more prophecy to review. In Revelation 17:16 the Bible records an earth-shaking event: “And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.” If the woman signifies the Roman Church and the ten kings represent ten Islamic nations, then those ten Islamic nations will one day betray and destroy the city of Rome and with it the Roman Church. So while prophecy strongly indicates an alliance between the Roman Church and Islam, it also shows that Islam will doublecross and destroy the Church. This is likely what Revelation 18 is describing, when that great city is destroyed in one hour. Similar to the attack on New York City on 9-11, prophecy may reveal a like destruction on the city of Rome by a future ten-member Islamic coalition. Considering the transformation we are witnessing in the nation of Turkey (the epicenter of the old Ottoman Empire), the civil war in Syria, and the continued threat from radical Islam, we may be watching the beginning of end-time prophecy unfold. Now is not the time to be spiritually asleep at the wheel. As believers in the Messiah we must ensure that our lives are in order and we are living according to our Father’s Word. For those who endure and overcome, there’s a great prize awaiting. Therefore, let us press ahead and faithfully execute the office we’ve been given as saints of Yahweh. were awake? Note the Bible accounts in Matthew 26:69 and 71; Mark 14:66-67; Luke 22:56 and 58; and John 18:17. It was a chilly night, yet there were young girls still out. Yahshua had just asked His disciples to observe a vigil, a time of keepings, a night of watchings; the Hebrew is from shimmurim. Passover night was customarily a time for staying awake all night in remembrance of those ancient Israelites who huddled in their houses in fear of the destroying angel. They often read Scripture or sang songs of praise. As soon as one of the group fell asleep, the mood of the occasion was lost and the gathering broke up. There is no evidence that Abib 15 was observed as a night to be remembered; but we are to remember the death of our beloved Savior as He paid the redemption price for our sins on Passover.

Q A

When is the night to be much observed?

Yahweh’s instructions on the proper observing of Passover included the following: “It [is] a night to be much observed unto Yahweh for bringing them out from the land of Egypt: this [is] that night of Yahweh to be observed of all the children of Israel in their generations” (Ex. 12:42). Some say this verse refers to the night Israel traveled out of Egypt, which would be Abib 15, the first high day of Unleavened Bread. Israel kept the Passover at the beginning of the 14th, just as the setting sun ended the 13th. Israel left from Ramses the next night, the 15th, according to Deuteronomy 16:1. The first annual Sabbath (Abib 15) of the days of Unleavened Bread recalls Israel’s leaving Egypt. Nowhere do we find mention of any special night of watching on this night in either the Old or New testaments. Nor is Abib 21, the last high day, a special night of watching when they finally crossed the Red Sea and were free of Egypt. The Expositor’s Bible Commentary says of Passover in Exodus 12:42: “That night was to be observed by all future generations as a ‘Watchnight Service’ for on that night [Yahweh] ‘preserved’ or ‘kept’ the destroyer from touching them (v. 42). There is a clear play on the word samar (‘watch,’ ‘preserve,’ ‘keep vigil’) as Yahweh watched over Israel that night, so Israel was to watch for Yahweh by keeping this feast perpetually” (cf. v. 17, p. 380). Significantly, Yahweh made Passover a night of “keepings” (samar) in which He kept His promises of release and protection Times Magazine 18 Restoration May-June 2018

and freedom in bringing His people out of bondage and into the Promised Land. In acknowledgment, Israel was to make Passover a night of “keepings” for Yahweh, a night for their promise of remembrance of Israel’s redemption from Egypt, and the remembrance of the Savior’s redemption of the sins of the world. The Jewish Tanakh translation reads: “ This was for [Yahweh] a night of vigil to bring them out of the land of Egypt; that same night is [Yahweh’s], one of vigil for all the children of Israel throughout the ages.” Passover is a night to be observed and much remembered and was kept by Yahshua and His disciples. Following the observance of the Passover they sang the great Hallel (“praise”) Psalm 113-118: “And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives,” Matthew 26:30. Then, still on Passover night, our Savior asked them to sit while He took Peter, James, and John to pray, saying to them, “My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry here, and watch with Me”(Matt. 26:38). However, we read: “And he came unto the disciples, and found them asleep, and said unto Peter, What, could you not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray, that you enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed [is] willing, but the flesh [is] weak.” This occurred three times and on the same night the death angel passed over and redeemed ancient Israel. Now this Passover night would begin the agony and suffering of our Savior as He paid the redemption price for the sins of the world. Why were so many people out and about that night? Was it only to see the demise of the Savior? Or was this a special night of watching, when even the young maidens

Q A

Can Satan accurately prophesy as well as the prophets, and how can we distinguish prophecies?

Yes he can, but only if Yahweh allows it as a test of our faithfulness. With his superior intellect and knowledge, Satan can make better than average predictions of what likely will happen. In Deuteronomy 13:1-3 we read of the ‘prophet test’: “If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other mighty ones, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for Yahweh your Elohim provetih you, to know whether ye love Yahweh your Elohim with all your heart and with all your soul.” A fulfilled prophecy, if it results in turning you away from Yahweh, is demonic. We are to test the prophet himself for this possible evil, v. 5. In Matthew 24:24 Yahshua said, “For there shall arise false Messiahs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.” To be effectively deceptive a false prophet must give accurate prophecies. But, he can do that only if Yahweh allows it as a spiritual test of faithfulness to Him. Another case of demonic prophecy is found in Acts 16:16, “And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying.” This woman with a demonic ability to prophesy would not have brought her masters much money unless her prophecies were accurate.

Her prophetic ability failed once the demon was cast from her, v. 19.

Q

A Karaite Jew recently made the claim that “Yahweh” and “Jupiter” share the same etymology. He bases this on Gesenius’ statement: “I suppose this word to be one of the most remote antiquity, perhaps of the same origin as Jovis, Jupiter, and transferred from the Egyptians to the Hebrews.” Is there any truth to this?

A

While Gesenius made this statement, all indications are that he later retracted it. Consider the following excerpts: “To give my own opinion [This opinion Gesenius afterwards thoroughly retracted; see Thes. and Amer. trans. in voc.: he calls such comparisons and derivations, ‘waste of time and labour;’ would that he had learned how irreverend a mode this was of treating such subject!], I suppose this word to be one of the most remote antiquity, perhaps of the same origin as Jovis, Jupiter, and transferred from the Egyptians to the Hebrews [What an idea! God himself revealed this as his own name; the Israelites could never have received it from the Egyptians]. (Compare what has been said above, as to the use of this name on the Egyptian gems [but these gems are not of the most remote antiquity; they are the work of heretics of the second and third centuries]), and then so inflected by the Hebrews, that it might appear, both in form and origin, to be Phenicio-Shemiti” (Gesenius’s Hebrew and Chaldee Lexicon to the Old Testament Scriptures, p. 23). “In there is one other remark before quitting this chapter. We have seen that the principal part of the Jehovistic ideas in this second portion of Dr. Colenso’s work are taken from the articles on that subject in the lexicon of Gesenius. We shall now see that Gesenius is responsible for some part of Dr. Colenso’s new belief. “The Bishop writes as follows: –‘My own conviction, however, from the accumulated evidence (!) of various kinds before us is, that Samuel was the first to form and introduce the name, perhaps in imitation of some Egyptian name of the Deity which may have reached his ears.’ Gesenius wrote before him: ‘I suppose this word to be one of the most remote antiquity, perhaps of the same origin as Jovis, Jupiter, and transferred from the Egyptians to the Hebrews’ (see Lex. p. 337). “This opinion, as we have shown, Gesenius afterward thoroughly retracted, probably through having become convinced that the Egyptian Gems on which it was founded were the work of heretics of the second and third centuries. Bishop Colenso, however, adopts the discarded opinion

of Gesenius, and parades it as his own. We think he might at least have had the candour to acknowledge from whence it was obtained” (The Bible in the Workshop, part II, p. 95). “The name Yahweh is explained by some as being connected etymologically with the Indo-Aryan ‘Jovis.’ It is, then, derived from [delta, iota, upsilon] “‘o shine,’ hence Yahweh would signify the ‘bright ether.’ This name is also declared to be ideally, though not etymologically, related to ‘daeva,’ ‘deus.’ Thus the name would signify the ‘High One,’ the ‘Heavenly.’ But there is so little common to both languages of which we can speak with any degree of certainty that we cannot think of deriving [Yahweh] from the Indo-Aryan stem [delta, iota, upsilon]. The untenableness of this derivation was already recognized by F. Tuch, who says: ‘The similarity of [Yahweh] with Jovis, Jupiter, which is insufficient enough in itself, disappears entirely when the name is pronounced rightly [Yahweh] = Jahve.’ (Hans H. Spoer, The Origin and Interpretation of the Tetragrammaton, pp. 7-8) According to these scholarly references, Gesenius withdrew his statement regarding the possible connection between Jupiter and Yahweh. In addition, Spoer further explains that these words share so little in common that this connection disappears entirely. It should also be noted that Gesenius used the words “suppose” and “perhaps” in his initial statement. These words convey that while he believed there may have been a possible connection, such a conclusion could not be authenticated based on the evidence. Therefore, to state that Gesenius asserts an undeniable and certain connection between “Jupiter” and “Yahweh” is disingenuous, especially with the fact that there is indication that Gesenius thoroughly retracted this statement along with other scholars showing that there is little in common with the origins of these words.

Q A

How could Elisha kill children just for their mockery, 2Kings 2:23-24?

Note that the prophet cursed them, but it was Yahweh who unleashed the bears on them. This is where the RSB shines with its Strong’s Hebrew and Greek dictionaries. “Little” is No. 6996 and in Hebrew could mean anything from little in quantity, little in size or few in number. “Children” is 5288 and can mean a boy, lad, servant or young man. Here’s the interesting part. It says the bears “tare the 42 children.” It doesn’t necessarily say they were killed. Tare is No. 1234 and has the meaning of rend, make a breach, divide. It could just mean the bears sent them running away in

different directions. Whether they lived or died, it was all of Yahweh and we dare not question His actions. Be careful about reading different translations without regard for the Hebrew and Greek behind the text, as translators will often copy from one another and perpetuate the error.

Q A so?

I have been told that tithing is a fallacy because there is no Levitical priesthood functioning today. Is this

The first time tithing is found in the Scriptures is in Genesis 14:20, where Abraham tithed to Melchizedek, priest of the Most High. This was long BEFORE any Levitical priesthood was established. Yet, we discover that the man called “the father of the faithful” is tithing. The writer of Hebrews (7:1-28) establishes the importance of Melchizedek, who resembles the Son of Elohim in many respects, including the references “King of Salem” (peace) and “priest of the Most High,” without beginning of days or end of life. Abraham gave tithes to the priest Melchizedek hundreds of years before there ever was a Jew or a Levitical priesthood. The progenitor and the very one from whom would come the Levitical priesthood and to whom all the promises were first made was Abraham. And he tithed to Melchizedek. Therefore, the great Abraham is thus sub ordinate to Melchizedek, because from the loins of Abraham came both the future Levitical priests and those who tithed to them. Furthermore, the Levitical priesthood is inferior to Melchizedek’s. The Levites who took tithe were mortal, but the Melchizedek priesthood is without beginning of days nor end of life (Heb. 7:3). Yahshua remains a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek, Psalm 110:4. The argument of Hebrews is that Levi paid tithes to Melchizedek through Abraham, which implies that both Levi and his descendants are also subordinate to Melchizedek, The Levitical priesthood is now in abeyance and will not function until a Temple or Tabernacle again comes into existence. Ezekiel shows that in the coming Kingdom rule of Yahshua the Levitical priesthood will again function in the Millennium. Beginning with 40:39 we read of two tables on each side for slaying the burnt offering, the sin offering, and the trespass offering. Verse 46 speaks of the priests, the sons of Zadok of the tribe of Levi, who will minister to Yahweh at that time. “Chambers” or storerooms will be there for the priests and Levites and for the tithes and offerings. This is not to say that the Messiah will Restoration Times Magazine May-June 2018

have to be put to death again. He has died for the sins of the world once already. We who will be spiritual beings in the Millennium keep Passover today through Yahshua’s “spiritual” sacrifice. Those in the Millennium who will be physical will be required to keep physical sacrifices to learn the spiritual lesson of the Savior’s sacrifice. We should be careful that we are not deliberately disobedient. Through rebellion we impale Him all over again, Hebrews 6:4-6. Thus, we see that the priesthood will be established in the Millennial reign of the Messiah, which means that tithes will be taken by the Levitical priesthood. Notice Isaiah 66:20, “And they shall bring all your brethren for an offering unto Yahweh out of all nations upon horses, and in chariots, and in litters and upon mules, and upon swift beasts to My holy mountain Jerusalem, says Yahweh, as the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of Yahweh. “ Jeremiah 33:14-20 also tells of the establishment of the Levitical priesthood (which means tithing as well). Malachi 3:3-4 speaks of this same time. It is clear that the tithing principle is from antiquity, going back to Genesis 14, and extends to the future as well, to be kept in the Kingdom. We are presently under the Melchizedek priesthood, which is an older and higher priesthood under the Messiah. He Himself, speaking of tithing, told the Jews, “These things ought you have done and not left the other undone,” Matthew 23:23. The tithing principle is still with us today. Tithing is the fairest form of giving. Each of us is to give according to our means, adding offerings as we are blessed. Just as ancient Israel gave tithes to glorify Yahweh, we today give tithes to those who are proclaiming His holy Name Yahweh, and teaching His Sabbaths and laws. As we reveal Yahweh’s way of life, sincere seekers of truth become footstep followers of Yahshua the Messiah and become immersed into His saving Name. It is only those who have become a part of

His body who will inherit the promises given through Abraham, “And if you be Messiah’s, then are you Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise,” Galatians 3:29. Tithing is certainly one of the neglected truths practiced in the Old Testament and part of Millennial reign of the Messiah— therefore necessary today. We know that 90 percent of our income with Yahweh’s blessing will go further than 100 percent without it. If ours is the Kingdom, then we will be expected to teach tithing to others (Rev. 2:26-27). Can we openly and honestly teach others to do something in the Kingdom that we ourselves have never practiced?

Q

The first day of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to the Savior asking where they should prepare the Passover. If this is the actual first day of Unleavened Bread, why is Passover kept after these days have started? (See Matt. 26:17; Mark 14:12; Luke 22:7.)

A

The answer is in the Greek texts and the misunderstanding arises from the English translation, which is the source of many misnomers. Italicized words in the King James are not found in the Greek text but were added by the English translators. Let us first examine Matthew’s text, which reads as follows: “Now the first [No. 4413] day of the feast of unleavened bread...” (26:17). Notice the difference when the italicized words are omitted. First is Strong’s No. 4413, protos, meaning foremost (in time, place order or importance) and is translated before, beginning, best chief, first (of all), former. Thus Matthew 26:17 should be better translated, “Now, before the feast of unleavened bread...” This would harmonize with the Old Testament’s teaching that Passover precedes or “brings on” the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Mark’s account reads: “And the first [No.

4413] day [No. 2250] of unleavened bread when they killed the Passover...” (14:12). In Mark we note again No. 4413 (protos), which would better have been before not first. The word day is No. 2250 from the Greek hemera and can mean day, age, time, while, years (depending upon context, according to Strong’s). The early translators were not schooled in the Old Testament observance of Passover, and therefore did not translate this verse properly. Day is not the best choice. It should read: “And before the time of unleavened bread when they killed the Passover...” Mark 14:12. However. The Complete Biblical Library points out that the word day often refers to a long period such as we speak of “Abraham’s Day” or “the day of vengeance.” Accepting “day” as the “season” of unleavened bread clarifies the sense to harmonize with the Old Testament. Luke’s account: “Then came the day [No. 2250] of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed” (Luke 22:7). This verse would be better translated, “Then came the time of unleavened bread when they killed the Passover...” Day could also be understood as a period of time. John’s account reads: “Now before [No. 4253 pro — in front of, prior to] the feast of the Passover, when Yahshua knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father...” (John 13:1). This verse harmonizes with the three evangels in showing that Yahshua deliberately was about to take time before the Passover to show His humility by washing the disciples’ feet in John 13. The Complete Biblical Library says of pro (protos)’. “Temporarily, protos signifies an earlier or former time period.” (No. 2250 - hemera, day, time (Thayer)—1) natural day 2) civil day +night, 24 hrs. 3) last day of present age 4) time in general. No. 4413 - pro, in front of, prior (Thayer)—1) time or place, 2) first in rank, influence, honor, chief, principal, 3) first, at the first.)

Q A

My friend says he is born again. What does he mean and what does the Bible say?

The common concept of “born again” implies that one is converted and now “saved.” Yahshua told Nicodemus that one must be born again to see the Kingdom, John 3:3. The term means to be born from above when you become a spirit being. You cannot be born again and still be in a fleshly body, v. 6. You become windlike, v. 8. Becoming born again occurs at the resurrection, when you are changed to spirit essence and sin no more, 1John 3:9.

2018 FUB Memories “The Feast of Unleavened Bread was wonderful! We always leave feeling even more blessed for having spent time with so many wonderful people and hearing amazing messages and music of praise. Looking forward to the Feast of Tabernacles!” – M.M. “I really enjoyed the time that we spent with you during the Feast. It is AWESOME to see the Assemblies having plenty of activities throughout the week. For those who have to work during the day it would be nice to have more indoor activities in the evening such as Jeopardy, etc.” – L.A.

“The Feast was wonderful this year! I personally enjoyed fellowshiping and meeting so many new people. You all do such an amazing job at coordinating the events, thank you for all your hard work! For some ideas, the Bible Trivia/Jeopardy last year was so much fun; it would be great to have that next year as well as maybe an unleavened bread baking get-together, natural remedies/salves class, scavenger hunt.”– S.A. “For [my wife] and myself this was our first “real” Feast of Unleavened Bread. Yeah, Alan was a great help when he started talking about bread, I’ll not forget that. Next year I will get prepared for the Bible workshops. Last week a friend of mine asked how I liked my vacation. I just blurted out, “try living eight days on unleavened bread.” He said, “Sorry.” I almost forgot about the feet washing. I didn’t realize I was supposed to wash the feet of the person who washed my feet, took me a whole day to realize that.” – J.D.

“Another good reason to go to the Feasts: makes you feel spiritually refreshed and renewed. Like getting a recharge from my fellow brothers and sisters.” – A.M. “For [my wife] and myself I can honestly say that this year’s Feast of Unleavened Bread was even better than our first one last year. The relationships we developed, the fellowship shared, the laughs, the good times, and most importantly our relationship with Yahweh is stronger and more fortified than ever BECAUSE of the Feast, its activities, and the wonderful people we now call FAMILY at YRM in Holts Summit.... May Yahweh continue to bless you all, for all you do....I can’t wait till we celebrate next year’s Feast of Unleavened Bread and know we don’t have to drive farther than Jefferson City to be home! – D.B.

The five first floor rooms, restrooms, and the kitchen’s common area are now painted (thanks to volunteers). The framing and electrical wiring of the 22 rooms on the second floor has been completed and the drywall is being completed.A special thanks to our master electrician who drove down from Maine and volunteered his time to finish the second floor electrical. This building will not only provide space for indoor activities throughout the year, but also crucial meeting space, lodging and activities for Feasts and other events like youth camps. We are already beyond capacity in our existing meeting hall for Tabernacles. The new center could serve as a future meeting room for Tabernacles with an approximate 350-seat capacity in the gym. Please consider helping YRM with this initiative to advance worship for Yahweh’s glory with facilities suitable for Feastkeeping.
