This project is contribute to Sheffield City Council’s (SCC) City Centre Masterplan. The Riverside Business District is a major urban design and gateway site of Sheffield. There are 2 specific tasks: 1. An audit of potential opportunities and sites for retro-fitting environmentally-positive landscape features and developments, and to outline the types of potential enhancements that might take place in these sites. (This part is included in the ‘Reports’ session of the portfolio)
2. A landscape design proposal for the development of a new linear green/blue corridor and associated spaces along the route.
West Bar Green Corridor THE RIPPLE (EFFECT) blue green landscape ECOLOGICAL DESIGN PROJECT
The focus is on innovation, ecological enhancement and biodiversity, climate-change mitigation and urban resilence.
The concept of the design proposal is ‘the ripple effect’. At the moment, the district is like calm water that has limited activities. The design aims at adding new elements to the site that can make the area more vibrant and dynamic. The ‘ripples’ are also translated into the patttern of trees which form the framework of the design.

This is a real life project to produce a proposal for an innovative roof garden that combines accessible space for people to use, along with habitat and biodiversity-enhancing features. The Showroom Cinema and Workstation contains offices, studios and workshops for businesses working in the ‘Cultural Industries’.

The design language comes from the nearby train station with very interesting patterns of railway tracks and sleeper woods. It also incorporated the existing triangular forms of the windows.

The overall planting strategy is to use plant mixes that require a minimal input of resources but with maximum visual and biodiversity impact.
This project integrates information from other courses and disciplines to do with landscape, planning, architecture and social sciences. This includes issues such as integrated transport policies, ecology, sustainability, conservation and local distinctiveness. It seeks to address some of these matters, and attempts to stimulate thinking and challenge contemporary aprroaches to contemporary housing and seeks innovative resolutions to the problesm associated with a sustainable housing environment.

This project focus on the use of plant in landscape design. It considered the aesthetic, functional, and ecological prinicples underpinning planting design. The site is at a gateway location of Sheffield, between the train station and the city centre. It aims at welcoming the visitors to Sheffield with the beautiful vegetation that are originated from plant communities around Sheffield.

The brief for this project requested a design and accompanying construction details for the library courtyard. This proposal aimed to provide a sustainable and efficient design which considered design detailing and the selection of appropriate materials in response to both functional and aesthetic requirements. The grid-like pattern of the design is inspired by ‘papyrus’, the ancient Egyptian paper. This relates back to the adjacent libary building which has a collection of old historic literatures.

This project aims to encourage creative, experiential and research based approaches to landscape design in order to compliment the use of traditional Survey Analysis Design methodlogy. It focus on different means of generating design ideas with regard to the genius loci of the project area. The overall aim is to create a vibrant artistic hub for the people of Sheffield within the Cultural Industrial Quarter, extending from the limits of the route, that is currently set going beyond the connection of the train station to the city centre and filling up the adjacent sites with landscape designs and colour. The development articulates spatial sequence, unity and diversity, textural and sensory qualities, multi-functional use of space and makes a cultural contribution to the complex urban area.

The design is inspired by the ‘Rubik’s Cube’ which has a flexible combination of colours.
