We started with a cube. Then we used an object to cuts into the cube and create several space conditions: sunken-in spaces, punctures and cracks. Through the rotation and wiggle of the cutting object, we made a gap in between the cutting object and remaining part of the original cube which we caled it gray space. By changing the material and function of two different objects, the cube had ben vanished into ghost frame and contained the main circulation to give a unique experience of penetration of inside and outside.

There are three space conditions in this building. Inner space evolves from sectional object which include main gallery platforms connected by an consistant circulation. It also act as a tool for bridging between ground and building mass. Outer space contains platforms that functioned as both circulation and other programs. Inner space is represented by solid wall while the outer space embraced by translucent frames. The gap in between the two become another space. This three space represent differently, however they associated with each other and constructed as one integral whole. By using this strategy, we increase the overlap and intersection of multi-use spaces and dual programs which both amplify its perceptual existence within the other.

This model was assembled in three ways. Base was made of blue foam by CNC and use plaster to cover the surface. We use 3d print to create the solid part in several pieces. Then we glued them together and spackled Dry Dex on the surface to hide the juncture and textures. The frame was laser cutted museum board. We painted in white and glued them together.

Our studio was composed by six group of pairs, and we were assigned by different program. Each group had given a typical New York block adjacent to each other. Except develop each program independently, we also required to develop a shared interaction space passing through all programs.

We were working on library. Our concept is based on an information age we live in Our purposed is to study the relationship between information and human beings, and find out the role library plays to better serve people efficiently and directly, which also lead our further thinking about how library could be in the future.

Each medium has its own specific properties and representations. We have designed specific for each program. At the same time, one unique circulation passing through them from top to bottom. Each media is connected with the peripheral ramp, which is more convenient for users.

RETHINKING BIM & INTEGATED PARAMETRIC DESIGN 2015 Fall GSAPP Instructor: John J. Lee; Brian J. Lee Partner: Jiapei Li Kaixiang Huang

This Workshop through the exploring BIM strategies tried to find out how can we intervene in the BIM process to not let it be strictly about efficiency, but instead utlize its capabilities as opportunity for design. We investigated the process of integrating multiple parametric platforms simultaneously into a single architectural project. We used Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Vasari, Rhinoceros and associated plugins, to create a parametric architectural system with embedded variability.

This Workshop had been devided into two parts. Specifically, we designed and developed workflows. Session A is a basic understanding of Revit. Revit presented as the primary tool for hosting and documenting. Session B introduced Grasshopper (Hummingbird, Chameleon, etc.) to interact specifically with Revit and Vasari.

RETHINKING BIM / 反思 BIM

Concept / 概念 Our proposal is to renovate the atrium of the Bobst Library. Based on our analyse of public flow desity, we are going to generate a roof structure imtating the wave of water and sound. The openings and height changes will consider how people use that space and change the experience when people passing by.

Concept / 概念 Our concept based on the continueing exploration on an altenative space type of the NYU Bobst Library's atrium. We tried to generate a parameter based on the angle of each panel along the surface. The opening is larger when the angle is deeper, so that people would have direct sight communication while the walking on the surface.

Instructor: Naiara Vegara Skills: Revit, Rhino, Photoshop, Illustrator Between 1950 and 1990 the urban population of Soviet Union increased from 71mln to 190 mln people. Microrayon emerged as urban scale residential complex to solve the population problems. 70% of Moscowians lives in Microrayons.

In my analysis, I focus on the building type and housing conditions related to the residents that live in this area, and try to find out whether the existing social housing really helpful to build a good living conditions that most of the residents could enjoy their high life quality. at the meanwhile, I compare with London housing type to find out the solution.

Concept / 概念 The existing housing typology is lacking of diversity and proframming. Most units are suit for large family groups but not single young people. Residents lost social contact with each other, which need to be deeply think about.

THE MEMORY

a landscape of the disappearing spiritual DMZ - win the Prize of DMZ Green Future of 32nd Space Prize for International Students of Architectural Design Fall 2014 Instructor: Jungwoo Ji Partner: Zitong Feng, Tianyu Feng Other than the political union by one government, the ultimate peace shall only be achieved by the union of people, friends and families. DMZ creates a spiritual and invisible barrier between people from North Korea and South Korea.

Essentially, the whole peninsula was completely scattered as many segments by DMZ. The eight “do” formation doesn’t exsit anymore. We propose to design a place to provide opportunities for people from two sides to meet their families and recall the past memories. Although two countries may not be united in foreseeable future, all people has been re-united by the same root. We intend to evoke people’s emotional response to this new sequence form by the gradual landscape changes and time passing.

We are confident that with human activities, this land will be activated. By utilizing the active and gradual occupying the DMZ landscape of the artificial landscape, a new level of reunion could be achieved.

2016 FR-EE Project Leader: Sergio Rebelo Project Manager: Yuri Jeong A7 is one of the most exciting urban residential accomplishments, articulated by a dynamic wave of the facade and striking color of the structure. Located in a thriving area, Polanco. A7 is minutes from Masaryk Avenue's shopping, vibrant restaurants and nightlife, and the diverse culture scene.
