Personal Statement What is beauty? That was a question confused me for many years especially when I became a student majored in Landscape Design. Teachers told us the view of beauty always kept changing with the strong interference of human beings to nature. At the beginning, I did not understand the reason. So I started to find the answer from books. Then I found that no matter the splendid geometrical axis of French Garden, the original landscape of British Classical Garden, or the delicate space design of traditional Chinese Garden, all of them show the beauty from different modes. I gradually understood the secret, which is “There are a hundred Hamlets in a hundred personal cores”; everyone has their own opinions to beauty. The less and less natural landscape led me to consider what the beauty design is in nowadays, and through the four-year’s professional learning I became to know that must be an ecological element system complex. Mending and reforming the “scar of city”, to create ecological habitats in cities by landscape design.，That kind of design is the most beautiful thing and the art I pursue after. This idea makes me willing to go overseas to look for an answer. Art for me is never a mystery; it is like eating, drinking or sleeping those common things in my life. I often indulged in the amazing colors, images, and composition made by the Nature Creator; the more natural, the more delicate. Because of the passion to beauty, I paid too much attention on the manifestation of arts instead of the true meaning of design. Accordingly, the limited theoretical knowledge made my design lack of substance, which led my GPA is not very high among candidates. However, during the internship in a landscape firm, I gradually realized that the ability of “dancing with chain” was necessary for a good designer. No matter how beautiful or perfect drawing it is, the final aim is to create a functional place for public service. I came to be familiar with the whole process from the design to construction, every step should be patient, every detail need be tested, and decision would be considered. Then I tried to think from the view of the target users, to pursue the point of balance between nature and human activities. Thanks to the internship experience, it gave me a chance to review the relationship between landscape design and arts. I have spent much of my time in reading, which can enhance my professional knowledge and cultivate creative and innovative ideas. Chinese and Foreign Architecture History, City Constructing History, Theory of Urban Planning and Design Cases Analysis are my favorite. Through the word lines I realized the trend of change, understood the importance of planning for people’s lives and drew my inspiration. One of my favorite architects, Tadao Ando, had said that there were no so-called distinguished talents in his life; the all he owned was the born spirit of never give up when facing to the difficulties. In his Autobiography, I understood that when we doing design we were designing a new life instead of just a thing; we need to feel it with touch and realize it with emotion. Books brought me not only the knowledge, but also the attitude to the Design. Actually, I have paid close attention to your esteemed university and program since my second year. I adore the philosophy of your design that being a part of nature, which showed the respect to nature and human。And from that time on, I was fascinated by your profound cultural foundation and the most advanced teaching spirits. To be a member of your university, and to be capable of acquiring advanced teaching idea, these are the motivation to drive me forward. .I wish to get down studying knowledge and development more experience to achieve my dream-to be a Landscape Architect to present more possibilities for people. I believe I will finally find the answer to the question during my aboard and release me from the confusion. I hope to meet a different me and find new inspiration in the free, artistic foreign situation. Meanwhile, I believe I will bring many different design ideas and elements from the ancient and also fast developing China. I am really hoping to witness the thoughts of the collision from two different cultures. Therefore, I hope you could offer me, a progressing young who has limitless hunger for design, a chance to bring my talents into full play. Combining theory and practice together could bring exciting influence to our daily life.

The project is located in a boarding primary school in the developing town, China. Design requires building up a Juvenile Activity Center at the entrance of the open space to meet the needs of teachers and students in extracurricular time.

In 1990, the urban area was still very limited, it was still large tracts of wasteland and depression. To 2000, it had been surrounded by a residential area of South Lake, East Lake depression began to grow a piece of high-rise buildings, but this was not very dense neighborhood,which mixed a lot of yellow build area. While since 2006, more residential areas became intensive, yellow construction zone expands to the periphery. Lake Center City Area is increasingly crowded,meanwhile, the urban per capita green area dropped.

This is a Juvenile Activity Center with activity and excitation.The design use a language of embedding to arrange lawn,library,plaza,shallow pool,ect landscape element. The way introducing park into school is an interesting Dialogue between children and nature.
