- Integrated Urban Kampong Baleendah, Bandung
Integrated Urban Kampong Community Water Management
Type : Competition Project Integrating a simple water management system with the local urban activity, preserving and managing water Category : Public Infrastructure while continuosly empowering the community, in order to create a sustainable resilient region. Project Team : Ginani H Utami, Ady D Nugroho

Flood. Since 1986, Baleendah region has experienced flood disasters, caused by the overflow of rainwater during the rainy season due to the lack of water catchment area, and the litters that fills the river, causing the decrease of its water capacity
Population. The density rate of this region is 1.908 million people/km2, with total population 3.14 million people in an area of 580.2 hectare. Four out of 28 RW (sub-administrative village) has the highest vulnerability level towards flooding (RW 09, RW 19, RW 20, and RW 28). These areas are considered very dense, where the alleys are only about 0.6-2 meters wide.
Vision We aim to transform this dense population area into a resilient region that is responsive towards the extreme water issues, where every house in the area owns their own water treatment without interfering settlement areas and community activities in the region.
Water Scarcity. The people depend on clean water from local wells for their daily consumption, but the wells are completely dry during the dry season. This condition worsens this year due to the El-Nino phenomenon. Another source of water is the river, but the water pollution makes the water inconsumable.
Concept. By implementing this system, the wastewater from the flood that is beyond the river’s capacity will efficiently be used in the household, and precisely managed to proceed back to the river. This system will also empower the local community and activities by integrating the water management system with settlements and community centers.

SCALE 1: Water Treatment per Building Each house are designed with a rainwater harvesting system, where they have a container above their functional space to collect rainwater directly, and a water tank below their functional space to take care of water run-offs that wasn’t able to be absorbed directly by the water catchment areas. This water will then be treated and directly used on-site.
16
SCALE 2: Water Treatment per Sub-administrative Village In the sub-administrative village scale, greywater and black water from domestic and community use will be distributed for a second treatment.
SCALE 3: Water Treatment on Regional Level Wastewaters will then be filtered again in the regional level, to ensure that it is clean enough before it reaches the main drainage river in order to prevent further water pollutions.
Rainwater Harvesting. During the dry season, Baleendah experiences yearly water scarcity, most recently happened in 2015, during the El-Nino phenomenon, where the local wells and even the Citarum river were completely dried out. The people had to seek clean water to another region. Flood Tank. Flood treatment in Indonesia are usually managed with constructing man-made basins or deepening existing basins. However, this region are already lacking of water catchment areas. The needs of water container to divert floods requires huge reservoirs, and building them is already out of the option.

- out(door)in House Kampung Padi, Bandung
Restoring Human Balance Type : Competition Project Nature is the only device that we have in earlier times to connect with each other. But human create the Category : Private House device to easily connect with each other. The fact is, more than 70% people in Indonesia dependence with Project Team : Arif Rizky Hutomo, Ramdani Akbar their own device and make negative feedback to their environment and social. We have to restore the bal-
ance between human and nature so people will aware of their environment and reduce dependence to their device.

This project is located in Kampong Padi, North Bandung. The site has a beautiful view overlooking the Cisitu valley and headwaters of Cikapundung river.
We are part of nature. we are connected directly with nature and ecosystems. nature is essential for human life, including tangible and intangible aspects. Human made houses to protect them from wild animal, weather, and climate. But in earlier time, houses design become more individual an apart with nature. Human made a lot of device to substitute nature as human balancer and human resources. But in the end, human addicted to their
own devices. So, the design main idea is to restore human balance with nature using indoor space as outdoor space. We decided to choose an extreme site with almost 45 degree slope to make site more “atractive so people can notice the nature. because the site is the first thing who decide the form of the building. and how the building respons will be interesting.
