[RAIL YARD URBAN PARK] TRANSFORMATION FROM INDUSTRIAL PRECIENT TO AN ECOLOGICAL AND ENGAGING URBAN PARK
The project site is located in North Eveleigh, extending from Paint shop to Redfern Station platform. North Eveleigh is identified as a State Significant Site in the Central to Eveleigh Corridor, meaning that it has a unique character, which is the historic Rail Yard. This project will enhance the human experience, not only of the industrial heritage, but also of today’s urban ecology. It will provide a suitable natural environment for the wildlife habitat. It will transform the site form the past industrial rail yard to an engaging ecological public urban park. Landform changes will create a transition area with great visual quality which will balance the urban qualities with the natural. The adaptation of the heritage buildings into working studios and exhibition spaces will retain industrial values. The combination of different materials and native planting will provide various landscape typologies to establish human and wildlife habitats, including rock escarpment, wetland, grassland, urban woodland and urban forest.
