ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY

I Would like to pay my respects to the Bedegal and Gadigal peoples who are the Custodians of these lands.

I acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, the First Australians, whose lands, winds and waters we all now share, and pay respect to their unique values, and their Continuing and enduring cultures which deepen and enrich the life of our nation and communities.

I would also like to acknowledge that Aboriginal sovereignty has not been ceded.

01

MY BACKGROUND

I was born in Beijing (北京), The capital of China.

I also raised in Beijing, Spend my student time here.

Now I live in Sydney, AustraliaLand of the Gadigal of the Eora nation.

FORESHORE

RESIDENTIAL AREA

Mangroves are important as part of estuarine ecosystems and habitats for shorebirds and fish

The living shoreline and mangrove can be developed to create ecological and economic values for Carrington so that the residents can live on the water.

The Carrington coastal line gradually retreats, weakening its economic and ecological value.

The building form is a one- or twostorey house with a direct connection to pedestrians and no flood protection.

TOXIC
CLIMATE
The rising temperature and frequent heat weave in the future will promote the volatilization of toxic substances in the soil.
LEVEL RISE: - Gradually rising sea levels will bring toxic heavy metals to the soil surface and increase pollution. - It encourages metal ions to dissociate, declining water quality Rockbed ASS PASS (No oxygen exposure) O2 Fe SO42- H+ H2SO4 FeS2 FeS Organic layer Acid Sulfate Soil Potential Acid Sulfate Soil FILLING MATERIALS’ TOXIC SUBSTANCES (HEAVY METALS - Fe, Al2O3, Mn, Zn, Pd, Cu) Toxic substances evaporated into the atmosphere Toxic substances enter the water system Heavy metals (Filling materials) are carried to the soil surface Flora & fauna is affected Uninhabitable Sea Level Rise can reduce the oxidation reaction of Acid sulfate soils, but once the soil is disturbed, it will produce iron sulfide and sulfuric acid. RADICAL COLLABORATION - REDEMPTION

THROUGH RADICAL COLLABORATION, I GOT IT...

Carrington’s toxic soil has residents worried. Unhealthy soil harms health.

Residents of Carrington enjoy the current village atmosphere.

Infrastructure in Carrington need adapt to the sea level rise.

Each phase is important, and they may lead to a different future.

Consider the tangible and intangible impacts of sea level rise.

Lack of connection between the port and the community.

It made me realize the seriousness of the soil problem

Residents enjoy ‘Slow life’

Let me consider the flexibility of the infrastructure

Phase must be divided scientifically and orderly

Consider the impact of sea level rise on Carrington’s economy, transportation, housing types, and recreational facilities.

Consider connecting the port to residential areas after it is no longer in use.

TOXIC SOIL

Soil containing heavy metals seriously harms people’s health and is easy to enter the water system in the future

ABORIGINAL CULTURE

FLAT STREET

Flat terrain is not adapted to rising sea levels and is prone to inundation. The verticle street form will be considered.

MEAN AGE

UNSUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT

Cars are difficult to adapt to future site and exhaust fumes tend to pollute the sea.

Consider clean public transportlight rail.

ORDINARY BUILDING AND ROAD FORM

The existing road system and buildings are prone to inundation due to low terrain.

- The new built form will consider versatility and incorporate flora and fauna habitats.

ECONOMY

- The characteristic neighbourhood structure attracts tourism.

- NEED CONSIDER
- Protect the foreshore (an important Aboriginal culture site). - Consider indigenous favourite plants for street planting. - Added aboriginal venues to verticle street.
SAFETY How to

How to make Carrington financially profitable in the future. - Use Mangrove and the living shoreline to develop fisheries.
