EMOTIONAL RESONANCE - Landscape leads people experience a mind journey 3rd Year Portfolio | Rongzhen Chen

Personal Statement From a young age, Landscape Architecture was a blank canvas for me. At that time, the landscape was just the scenery I saw.

Acknowledgement Of Country I Would like to pay my respects to the Bedegal and Gadigal peoples who are the Custodians of these lands. I acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, the First Australians, whose lands, winds and waters we all now share, and pay respect to their unique values, and their continuing and enduring cultures which deepen and enrich the life of our nation and communities. I would also like to acknowledge that Aboriginal sovereignty has not been ceded.

Growing up, I was obsessed with nature. I felt the forces of nature in many places I travelled. They all gave me a wonderful mind experience and made me resonate with the landscape. I have always loved everything about nature that can heal and enrich my life. Nevertheless, with the development of society, the urban system has also changed. They have become over-mechanized and lack emotion. It is difficult to get emotional resonance from the city in the cold and fragmented urban landscape. People and the city are no longer intimate. In addition, humans are also facing many natural problems, such as future extreme drought weather, air pollution, and solutions connected with landscape studies. Therefore, I turned Landscape Architecture as my major, considering the human scale, combining nature and the city, increasing the interaction between people and the landscape, allowing the city to regain emotions and solving future survival problems for humanity. The Portfolio is named Emotional Resonance, which aims to highlight the emotional experience of the landscape. Each project has its unique design that combines nature, folklore, historical culture, and site characteristics to create an incredible landscape and let people get a tremendously emotional experience. It is also the direction of my passion and future exploration.

The impact of COVID-19 on Sydney

Moore park is part of the City of Sydney Local Government Area. It is in the midst of a changing city. Upwards of 60,000 extra people are estimated to be moving in around Moore Park over the next 20 years.

RE-BREATHE & RE-UNITE

During the epidemic, everyone is like a lonely island...

The project is located in Moore Park. It connects to Sydney High School and has three parts: an outdoor library, an outdoor classroom, and an individual study area. They bring indoor activities to the outdoors, release people from the long epidemic of loneliness, allow people to work in a beautiful natural environment, and relieve mental stress. In addition, the site guarantees social distance and ensures the safety of the epidemic. The seating in the garden is designed to look like an isolated island, symbolizing a lonely person in the epidemic. In the end, the hard time finally passed, and people re-unite here again, letting visitors resonate with this place.

In the future, the population of Angus will gradually increase, and it is foreseeable that human activities will have a specific impact on this place’s ecological environment (water, plants, biodiversity). Angus’ existing migratory bird resources have great potential and are the core of future development. The project will plan Angus with the main idea of protecting migratory birds and letting migratory birds lead the design. Migratory birds will be owners of the site, where humans are only guests. Angus will protect the ecological corridors along the river, with migratory birds as the core. It will create a community with green buildings, low carbon, and an ecological balance between people and nature. Moreover, it will upgrade the protection of migratory birds to social behaviour. Angus will be a migratory birds education base to teach people how to protect migratory birds and promote ecological balance. Let people blend in with nature and migratory birds here, experience the journey of migratory birds, and explore nature and the inner journey.

LD

VISION - AN ECOLOGICAL COMMUNITY WHERE MIGRATORY BIRDS AND HUMANS COEXIST IN HARMONY.

1) Riverstone Meatworks Ponds are contaminated with asbestos and need to be removed. 2) Freshwater wetland has flood erosion, which affects migratory bird activities. 3) Dense residential areas may cause Urban Heat and affect migratory birds habitat.

3 Artificial wetland for Migratory Birds Cleaning & Retention

Reservoir (Reduce the risk of flooding to prevent affecting the habitats of migratory birds and humans)

For Connection, it will strengthen the connection with the surrounding areas and increase train stations. For Protection, it will create a wetland park and expand freshwater wetland to provide birds habitat and away from the human scale to prevent being disturbed by human activities. For WSUD will guide Angus planning. Human residents have drainage and water storage functions to reduce the impact of extreme weather and flooding. For Carbon Neutral. Angus will become a car-free community. It sets car park and provide bicycle rental and light rail stations at each entrance. For Education, it has a migratory bird education base connected to the school. They will be the heart of Angus.

Recovery (Moss & Herbaceous) - 2025

(Planing Trees) - 2035

(To form a mature ecosystem) - 2050

The pasture began to recover from planting moss and groundcover.

The field begins to plant trees (Rough-barked Apple Grassy Woodland). During this period, the ecology was gradually restored.

The vegetation is mature and the ecological community tends to be stable

The project is located in Copenhagen. It is a multifunctional bridge. Compared with other functional bridges around, its shape is not standard. It is composed of curves. The curved bridge allows people to spend more time visiting the bridge and provides a multiangle scenery that makes people feel like the people of Copenhagen. Leisurely life. My inspiration for the bridge came from the lifestyle in Copenhagen to be laidback. They even invented a word (Hygge) to express their lifestyle. It is the character of the city. Visitors can have common emotions and experiences with Copenhageners on the bridge.

POSTER DESIGN

Nowadays, it has become very fashionable to take selfies in unusual and often dangerous locations -- on top of tall buildings, the edge of cliffs. My design is intended to remind people to be cautious in an age of addictive technology. The structure, positioned on the cliff top at Marks Park, suggests the broken frame of a selfie-stick and the rectangular form of the ubiquitous smart phone. It made by yellow aluminum. It is three meters high and two meters wide. Because yellow is a warning, and it used on this sculpture to remind people not to try dangerous selfies.

JOE COLOMBO Italian American Joe Colombo (1930-1971) who was an industrial designer and was trained architecture. Colombo¡¯s practice include architecture, interior design and furniture. His philosophical approach is that integrate furniture and decoration into the space. Besides, colombo is famous for his furniture which is full of exploration of materials and structures. He believes that most problems can be solved through the power of technology, design and the potential for culture change. In addition inspiration is Colombo¡¯s main goal. Colombo¡¯s philosophical approach can be seen in the Elda Chair which was inspired by the hulls of boats. It is important that the chair may be considered to be the first large armchair made out of fiberglass. The chair is extremely comfortable because it is designed to fit the human body. Nowadays, serious design collectors are attracted to Colombo’s aesthetics because it epitomizes “the era of architects and designers thinking about art, culture and politics.” His design is still produced today.
