What is Fine Arts ? No one can define what is Fine Art , just like no one can define what is good or bad. It is all collection of personal opinions. Before this rotation , I didn't have much understanding of fine arts. In fact I never thought of fine arts as a different category in the world of Art and Design. I thought everything in Art and Design can be considered art. But only the best ones , the high ends ones can be called as Fine arts. But know my thought have changed , now fine arts is more about concepts. It does not matter what medium the artist uses , as long as there is a reason for it. And “no reason can be a reason too. I think fine arts isn't just anything that looks nice or pleasant , it's work that should be treated with respect and open minds. From my point of view , fine art focus more on concepts. The artist is conveying a message through their art work.
DAY ONE The first day of the rotation we were introduced to the concept of fine art and copying. The first task was making an image transfer from a laser print image to paper. I liked the outcome as it created a vintage look with some beautiful texture.
After this task , we starting a drawing exercise. Where we close our eyes and use fingers to feel the shape and form of our face. It was a very special experience , imagining the form of my face and trying to simulate that imagination into drawing. I would say my outcome was a bit strange , almost everyone else’s drawing as a clear shape of eyes and mouth. You couldn't even find a symbol of face figure in my drawing. I think this is due to lack of practice in drawing and lack of balance. I randomly bump to objects or even trip over flat floor as I walk normally.
This exercise seems to tell me that fine art is about feelings and reflecting. Maybe no matter how complex the concept is behind an artwork , it all started with instinct and feelings.
A SELFI STICK In the afternoon of day one , we created a handmade selfie stick with a mirror in the end to create drawing drawn with the process slightly disturbed. This structure that I made is used by having the string on your head and looking downwards to the mirror.
AN ALMOST IDENTICAL COPY [FINE ART] CMPT yr 2 – Mini Brief – Tuesday As part of the project ‘Am Almost Identical Copy’, you are going to explore the combination of analogue and digital production methods in the making of artwork. While digital media is exemplified by its ability to handle massive amounts of data and create almost identical copies (to the perception of the human eye at least!), your role as the creator (i.e. think of the title of your course and the first word…Creative!) of that content is important to think about. By combining both analogue and digital media, interesting outcomes can be developed.
4 – Each second of footage will contain 2 (usually…frame rate is a more complex sub stick with this number). You need to extr individual frame from the film. This can Premiere by ‘exporting’ the film, once on in a new project, as ‘TIFF’ image files. image on a word document (templates on my Indesign if you are familiar with graphic software.
TASK 1 – Watch the film ‘Copy Shop’ by Virgil Widrich (2001), I have placed a link on myUCA as it is available to watch on both youtube & vimeo. You are seeing nearly 18,000 photocopied digital images that were captured, animated and filmed onto 35mm film; giving this film the unique look that it has. Each frame from the digital video tape was digitised into a computer, printed out onto paper, and then photocopied. These photocopied images were then filmed again using a 35mm camera to re-create the smoothness of the original footage. You can watch a ‘how it was made’ video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v45s7V3Dr4&feature=related Make notes on the narrative. 2 – Embed this video into your blog and write 250 words, reflecting on: A. The relationship between analogue and digital mediums in its production and… B. The relationship of its production method to the narrative. Research ‘objective’ and ‘subjective’ viewing angles.
5 – Save this file to a USB (preferably a bring it to me to print out for you when
6 – Now, re-photograph each frame again ( it in order, use a number system). Use th had before to keep the camera steady & im use a ‘copy cam’ if available. Remember t this session, you can manipulate or be cr copies if you wish.
7 – Place these digital ‘still’ images ba an animation or film software program to into being a film. You can import them in Premiere project for example, then drag t timeline and (selecting all the images) a speed/duration to match the original film edit to close the gaps). I, or a technici here! COPY SHOP Inspired by a film named “ Copy Shop by virgil widrich , CMPT students had a task to create a 3 second moving image using the process similar to the making process of this film. A 3 second footage were first recorded digitally then it will be in the format of 24 frames per second. Making about 72 frames for 3 second. These thumbaile of frams were then printed , the rephotographed to conver them into moving image again. It is every intersting how the concept of an artwork influence not only the final outcome but also the making process.
GROUP PUBLIC ART A large scale structure was created each group inspired by two different non related images. Our group were given an installation art and an old telephone. The concept drawing was made by elizabeth is our group. The whole store was made by cardboard and tape.
This is an exercise for the Moving Image and Photography pathway. We were introduced to the concept of posing questions using photography. The task was to create a series of photographs inspired by the topic , it can be created in Rochester , Chatham or in the university. I live on Chatham high street , therefore I decided to do the shooting in my room where I can easily use myself as the model. I experimented with the mirror , using it to reflect a corner of the room and throwing an object towards the corner to create the sense of space. I also tried placing a suitcase on the bed , forming a strange question.
It is surprising to see images in the form of text. The language is so co theory.
