PROGRAMMING Where I design the interior of the market is located on Channel Street in the Mission bay district of San Francisco. I’m supposed to use sustainable products and hightest quality of finishes of the client’s request. High-income residencts are living in this luxury building. THe market sells wine, champagne, caviar, prepared foods and catering services. The building location is good for approach possibility because of public transportations. The client requests that the design has highend an organic food market and restaurant. They will serve coffee , oysters and gelato. Especially, the client needs that market has fine dining. Food has to be simple, but everything is made with organic and natural ingrediants. CLIENT PROFILE Tony Riviera is a CEO of Primo hospitality group restaurants and the restaurant concept developer. In 2002, he launched Primo Gelato in Los Angeles. Cafe Primo was inspired by the grand coffee houses and gelaterias of Europe. NEIGHBORHOOD & CONVENIENCE In San Francisco, the largest districts include South Beach, SoMa, Yerba Buena, Mission Bay, Potero Hill, Bernal Heights, and Inner Mission. The most famous building in mission bay is AT&T Park. Recently, huge architecture firms developed this district, and the rental rate is also high. Lots of highincome businessmen are living in apartments in Mission Bay district. Most of buildings are high-ended. The accessibility of public transportation is also a huge advantage to live this area, especially the Caltrain station. Safeway is the huge and most popular market in this district.

I applied wood element into the cafe design. The Earth cafe deals organic and high-end products, and large tree shapes and ivy tree express what Earth Food pursues. The Cafe area is main entrance of this building because customer can access easily from the Channel Street. I put the organic shape wood shelf, which leads wayfinding from cafe to market and restaurant. Entire space of the cafe area, lots of natural lights coming through the storefront glass, so cafe save energy in the daytime.

26

I applied water and metal element for the restaurant design. I used metal bars that I make separate spaces between the way customer passes from cafe to market. I put mirrors at pizza bar area that effect is the restaurant seems larger than actual size. And I designed waterfalls on the wall. Furthermore, I made wave shape with the metal bar that represents what element I applied into this area.

I applied the Earth(soil) and metal element into the market design. The large shlef behind checkout represent the Earth Food logo, and I mixed and matched green and brown color for shelf that gives warm feeling as the Earth Food is nature friendly and very organic. There is opened ceilng, which shapes are zigzag. Zigzag frame is to be seen more dynamic and interesting design than flat one.

MARIOTTO RESIDENCE RESIDENTIAL PROJECT 13 Wood Street, San Francisco, CA 94118

PROJECT DEVELOPMENT

PROGRAMMING Where I design the interior of the house is located on Wood Street in Laurel heights district of San Francisco. I use sustainable materials at lower unit, and design luxurious and warm feeling interior for upper unit. On upper unit, a married couple lives, and wife needs home office. They love collecting art pieces, so I decide to design upper unit as they live in the gallery. Building location is good for approach possibility because of public transportations. The bus stop is a block away from 13 Wood Street. The client lives on lower unit, and he requests to have simple home design becuase he lives alone. He doesn’t cook so he doesn’t need the large kitchen. However, he needs large workstation in his home.

SITE ANALYSIS Address: 13 Wood Street, Sanfrancisco, CA 94118 Year built: 2055 Zoning: Residential Lot: 4,485 sf

CLIENT PROFILE Ernest Mariotto is an interior designer and an instructor of Academy of Art University. He teaches residential design and material class at Academy of Art University. He will be living at lower unit of Mariotto house, and he prefers to have opened space. Currently his sister lives on upper unit. She works at home with her coworkers. She likes to cook at home so she requests that she wants to get large kitchen and dining room. NEIGHBORHOOD & CONVENIENCE The Laurel heights district has a pretty small neighborhood in San Francisco. It’s bordered by the University of San Francisco to the south. There are a lot of Victorian and Edwardian style homes. Many families live in this area and mostly of white or asian ethnicity. A large hospital is located in Laurel heights district, which is California Pacific Medical Center’s California Campus. Geary Boulevard is the large and main street in this district, so lots of buses stop on Geary Boulevard. Even people who doesn’t have a car, who can get to downtown San Francisco easily.

CONCEPT My concept of upper unit is modern gallery. I got inspiration from client’s current home design. Lots of drawings and paintings hang on the wall in her

UPPER UNIT

house. When I visited her home I felt that I was standing in gallery. Current home design seems like classical asian style home. I decided to change it to be looked modern style. I used warm colors entire space except home office. I tried to apply real office into the home so I used ceiling mounted panel light and white and bright tones lightings.

LIVING ROOM

I made a large decorative wall as a partition between dining area and living area. Materials of decorative wall are made with ceramic and mirror that gives the feeling as the client live in high-end gallery. I made glass shelves to display potteries and some other decorative items. Yellow-green color is the focal point in the living room.

43

DINING ROOM

The dining room has the contemporary style furnitures such as dining table and chairs, clock, and console. Large paintings hung on the wall, and you can see all the colors what i applied into this room are from the paintings, so It seems very harmonious and cosy dining room.

44

45

46

BEDROOM

I designed fancy bedroom for my clients. I mixed and matched warm and cool colors adjusting with tones, even I used bluish color but its tones down so it is harmony with red side table. Natural light comes through large fixed and pivot windows. Pendant lighting fixture is composed of geometric shape, and the painting on the wall express similar ahape as well. All the paintings what i hung on the wall are included all the colors what i used in this room.

47

HOME OFFICE

I designed home office as a real office. Current office of my client has really small and not enough space to work with her employees. I put large windows to have natural light while they are working in daytime. I used flush mount ceiling light at office because of white lighting. Yellow light is not good for working space.

48

49

CONCEPT The concept for lower unit is the healing. When I designed lower unit, I imagine that I relax in

LOWER UNIT

forest. My design is based on Scandinavian style. Basically Scandinavian design has bright light and graphic design elements. Mostly orange, blue, and white colors are used on the furniture and the wall covering. My design of lower unit has bedroom, bathroom, workspace, kitchen, gym, and living room.

LIVING ROOM

Living room is next to work station. For my client, living room is for his own and guests. Client greets guests and discuss at this place. I used sustainable materials, which are bamboo flooring and Low-E glass windows. Low-E glass window is perfect material for saving energy becuase that is specialized to keep proper temperatrue of building. Furthermore resident can see nice view of San Francisco. I had mix and match cool and warm color as the accecnt.

57

WORK STATION

I used Timber wood panel on the wall for decoration, which is sustainable material. The wood panel embodies shape of San Francisco’s panorama. I put fixed and pivoted windows at work station. I used Low-E glass to large fixed windows and pivoted window, those all are good for air circulation so resident can save energy. Especially, Low-E glass window has high energy efficiency. I used yellow and turquoise color as a focal point of work station. I used same flooring as I used at living room.

58

59

60

BEDROOM

Low-E windows are on East and West side of building. Advantage of Low-E glass window is that keep heat and cool the indoor space, saving energy, and block out UV rays. The reason why I used large windows in the bedroom is natural light with keep warm indoor, furthermore casement windows help to refreshing air. On the wall, I added Chamaecyparis Obtusa wood panel, it’s called as also Hinoki cypress. That wood panel helps to keep proper indoor temperature as well. The Chamaecyparis Obtusa wood panel has antimicrobial effect, which material is good for health. I put some plants in the bedroom, and it has air-cleaning effect.

61

WASH STAND

I made large washstand and which is not in bathroom, because of accessibility. Next to washstand area, I kept current patio area and I made indoor garden. Indoor garden has not any ceiling, it’s opened, so lots of natural lights comes in during daytime that’s why I put large fixed window on the wall between washstand area and balcony. I used bamboo flooring entire space except bathroom and gym. You can see real bamboo in patio as well. Resident can see through large Low-E windows to plants, and feel fresh and forest atmosphere with this small garden. I added bamboo wood panel below the ceiling, which is non-toxic pressure-treated.

62

63

64

BATHROOM

I designed kind of large bathroom and I didn’t make extra washstand in the bathroom because I made washstand out of bathroom. I used the SIP wall panel for this building and I used painting on the wall most of spaces. Next to bathtub, I used Linoleum tile, which is flexible and renewable, moreover non-toxic material. I used Low-E glass windows here as well. I put pivoted windows for letting steams go out and refreshing air. And I put genuine stone, which is zero toxic and sustainable material.

65

GYM

My client likes to exercise and he goes to gym almost everyday so I decided to make a small gym in his home. Treadmill and bench press are here. This room is not that much big, therefore I put mirrors that has an effect as small space seem so large. I also considered about sound insulation so I used carpet and soundproofing wall that blocks noise pollution.

66

67

68

KITCHEN

I used genuine stones to counter top and I didn’t make dining area separately because I design it for single user. The client requested that he doesn’t need large kitchen and separate dining room. Instead of dining room, I put island table and stools. I used sliding doors for entering to patio. I used bamboo flooring as I used at bedroom. Even though North and South side have not windows, patio doesn’t have any ceiling so enough sunlight is coming through the glass on sliding door.

NEWMAN’S OWN Commercial Project 1 Lombard Street, San Francisco, CA 94111

PROJECT DEVELOPMENT

PROGRAMMING Where I design interior of building is located on 1 Lombard Street. This location is high floating population because of tourist. It means that building has good accessibility as a market and office. I will design offices on 2nd and 3rd floor, and I will make large stair for connecting between Newman’s own foundation and incorporate. Staircase has special function for rest. I will make large and wide stair in the middle of staircase that is people can sit on this stair. For the 1st floor, I make cafe and floral in the market. I put floral in front of main door because people can smell good scent from the flowers, which is good strategy for marketing.

TRANSPORTATION - Muni E and F line - Taxi For the car users, there is a public parking in front of the building and also a private parking area. There are also two big garage nearby this building

SITE ANALYSIS Address: 1 Lombard Street, Sanfrancisco, CA 94111 Year built: 1904 Zoning: Commercial Lot: 56,400 sf NEIGHBORHOOD & CONVENIENCE The building is located in San Francisco bay area, and the weather is around 70F during the day and getting around 62F during night time. This is a busy area because it’s nearby to the tourist area, the Ferry building plaza and the crooked road, and this building is really good for the retail and office. CLIENT PROFILE The Client for this project is Newman’s own incorporated and Newman’s Own Foundation. Newman started his business in 1982, it’s started when he gave the wine bottle and his homemade salad dressings to his neighbors. Today, Newman’s store produces about 100 high quality food products.

CONCEPT My concept is beehive, and the elements that I take from beehive is the organic shape that combines

BEEHIVE

with hexagon pattern that honeycomb have. The design structure will be more like transform to different shapes. I used the hecxagon shape with pastel colors. Top floor has large skylight, above staircase, so warm natural light shines staircase area.

CAFE

In cafe, I made partition wall to make separate space between cafe and checkout. Check out area is crowded with waiting lines, so I want to let customer, who are in cafe, enjoy their meal and drink while they are staying. I applied my concept beehive into my project that shows hexagon shaped partition wall and lower ceiling.

This elevation shows to cafe, bakery, and checkout area. I put monitors at cafe which advertise Newman’s Own market’s promotions and about what kinds of product they have.

In reception area, They have wall mounted spot lights behind of reception desk that shines company names so visitors can recognize easily when they get in. Those two monitors show what they promote and how Newman’s own foundation is composed. Hexagon shape is the symbol of my concept so I used that shape as representative of Newman’s own.

RECEPTION

3D PERSPECTIVE RENDERINGS - RESTROOM AREA

I used diagonal wood panel with decorative lightings and there is wayfinding signage going to restroom. I put ivy plants inside of glass with the spot light that affects visitors and workers feel calm and relax when they pass the hall. Restroom is near the reception, so both visitors and workers access to restroom. N

I arrange the each department’s location according to the hierarchy diagrams of Newman’s own foundation and Newman’s own corporation. Each department of administers and CFO use private office. I used storefront glass to each private office. Storefront glass is good for natural light comes indoor and administers can communicate to easily with their subordinates.

In the middle of office, I made large staircase for people who move to upstair and downstair. Second floor office is not only for Newman’s own foundation so I thought about accessibility. The large staircase have two different types. First type is for normal way to use, on the other hand, second type is for sitting. Workers can meet and discuss sitting on the stair, and they save the time and movement.

OFFICE

3D PERSPECTIVE RENDERINGS - RECEPTION

I made similar reception design on third floor as I made on second floor. Third floor has unique-designed lower ceilings, furthermore, entire spaces are very opened. There is a large skylight directly above the staircase so that area is bright without illumination in daytime.

3D RENDERINGS - STAIRCASE

I attached tiles on the wall of conference room and there is wayfinding signage as well. The reason why I made conference near by staircase is accessibility for who works at second floor office.

3D PERSPECTIVE RENDERINGS - CONFERENCE ROOM

Conference room has natural lights and I made enough illuminations. I put some hexagon shapes on the wall, and those are all pastel tone color that makes lively and vibrant atmosphere.

3D RENDERINGS - LOUNGE

I made long bench seat next to windows, and various type of chairs are here. Hanging chair is the focal point in lounge. I applied my color schemes to furnitures and wall. Ivy plant is placed on wall that helps to people who use this area can feel relax and refresh.
