Design Statement Community development is a multidimensional term, encompassing a range of activities, policies, and actions guided by a multitude of frameworks, theories, and practice constructs. Community can refer to those connected by interests or geographic places. The ties that connect people can be made, strengthened, or weakened within the place where they interact. The original meaning of the word itself implies togetherness and collectiveness. This design cues from vernacular village’s socio-spatial patterns inspired by the traditional way of life in “Kampung”. In Kampung Chempaka, it was observed that the communities often gather under protective shades, naturally under the tress and this social interaction happens throughout daily at various occasions. Emphasizing the role between city and nature in creating a holistic system with it’s occupants as the participants. The poster portrayed the supporting core branching out the connection with humans and greens. Humans represent the villagers of Kampung Chempaka where their interaction with others mostly happens outside of the house or they either individually communicated with their own pets. Greens as the solution to the given site act as a purifier to filter out the negativity of the site. Overall the intention aims to give the feeder neighbourhood a vibrant and unique identity in a harmonious community. Throughout the findings, this design intention is to enhance and strengthen the communities living in tropical high rise dwelling by holistic approach that integrate from social aspect.
