The project addresses the idea of “Housing for the public good”, responding to a visible need in the city of Nedlands. According to the “Annual report 2019-20 of the city of Nedlands” the environmental issues are one of the main problems in the city. Following the design principles of the +- first approach of housing, in the next phase of this proposal the design encourage the idea of biophilia, a lifestyle where their occupants learn to live, respect and take care of nature.
Design strategies
• The direct relationship with nature developed working the concept of group dwellings rather than multiple houses, this way the dwelling design encourage the physical interaction with nature.
• The communal area in the last proposal improved to become a large communal garden that encourage the interaction between every dwelling by communal activities like gardening, playing and eating.
The project is located near of Friends of Hollywood Reserve, this association was created to save part of the bushland area from the Karrakatta cementery in 1997. Currently, bushland areas in Western Australia are facing a similar problem, as they are threatened by the constant growth of the construction industry. Taking in consideration this problem the biophilia project proposes two solutions:
Ceding part of the land area to the preservation of Australia’s native nature, searching to generate an expansion of the bushland area.
Develop the idea of less constructed area and more green spaces. This way the communal garden offers an area were the native australian plants can grow and people can interact with them.
CASA MISTICA is a project located in the suburb of Hamilton Hill, which aims to propose a multiple dwelling house, where their inhabitants are not related but interact through a communal space. The singularity of this proposal relies on the exploration of a precedent that does not have residential purposes. The Mosque of Cordoba, located in Barcelona, is a ceremonial space with a rich history of different religions that interacted through their walls. The home took inspiration from this history, comparing it with the different families that interact in this house. Apart from this, the project took as a reference the distribution of the spaces, the main colonnade structure, and the location of the communal areas of the mosque generating an environment where the mysticism and introspective experiences of a ceremonial space are replicated.
Apart from this the concrete, material proposed for the development of this project, is highly used to replicate the warm environment of the mosque. Taking advantage of the solemn texture of the raw concrete, it was highly used to generate a mistic environment.
Key aspects of the site were taken in consideration as well, like enhancing the green views of the site and avoiding the direct view with other houses to allow more privacy. In addition to this the house also implements the use of skylights to emphasize the main communal spaces like the living room.

The proposal of this studio was the research on the interaction between human and animals. The idea that we share our world with animals, make us think that we should design not only for humans. Choosing an animal and researching on its lifestyle and activities, the studio challenge the students to make proposals on the interaction of human and animals.
The chosen animal for this project was the red panda. The main approach of this proposal is to seek more playful and sustainable ways of interaction, in which the human and the red panda feel freer.
The project invites the human to visit the red pandas environment and to play and move like the animal. The design uses bamboo, a durable, sustainable material native to the red pandas habitat, to create the different elements of design.
This studio encourage the students to reflect about the relation between architecture and its context, arguing that architecture is a designed part of the environment and no an object in it.
For this reason, the design and concept of this proposal borned from the different feelings and senses that an existing place in perth transmits.
The existing place I was working on transmited the sense of equilibrium and serenity, where the meditation activity could be practiced. For this reason the chosen program and concept were tea pavilion and balance respectively.
Following the idea of balance, the whole project was designed to enhance the sence of equilibrium. From the distribution of the spaces to the landscape design of the project, every aspect of the project try to search an equilibrium between the ideas of purity-intervention, fluid-solid and open-closed spaces. The way this project facilitates the meditation activity is through the transition of spaces. The people that come to this pavilion experience a change from the busy life of city to the calm and equilibrated space of the nature and the river.

The theme of this competition was reimagining ‘third spaces’,inviting its participants to develop a proposal that reflects on the use of ‘Third Places’ and how to reimagine them to promote social cohesion and community.
Our group selected ‘Cathedral Square’ as our ‘Third place’. Situated in the heart of Perth, this versatile venue combines arts, culture, and entertainment, offering a myriad of meaningful services. With its potential to facilitate strong connections among individuals, it holds the promise of becoming a thriving hub in the community.
Our concept, ‘Disconnect to Reconnect,’ draws inspiration from the surrounding premises, targeting residents, students, employees, and passersby. Our designs offer various outdoor functions tailored to individual needs, aiming to create a vibrant community that enhances area publicity and fosters strong bonds among like-minded individuals.
‘Disconnect to Reconnect’ consists of two key approaches. Firstly, we offer the existing different communities of the Cathedral Square the opportunity to work together and take advantage of their resources to create a vibrant community. Secondly, we encourage individuals to disconnect from technology and the external world to practice self-awareness by offering individual capsuled space, during this process, individual may establish a more profound connection with society.
The Cathedral Square is surrounded by a church, a library, an Art Museum, and a children school. However, all this organizations are working independently. Our project offers a system of rails and modules for each of this organizations to encourage them to work togueter. This way, they can use this system of rails to establish marketplaces, organize fairs, host events, and create engaging conversation areas. These rails also serve as bonding ribbons that brings cohesion to the surrounding organization and foster a thriving community.
the second element of our proposal is the Sphere. Taking the form of an egg because this form has held symbolic significance both in art and religious contexts, representing “new beginnings or purity amidst the surrounding chaos.” The egg-shaped capsule is soundproofing and has an embodied lounge chair for people to sit back and relax. The dome skylight allows individuals to star or cloud gaze, providing another means to reduce stress and practice mindfulness.
The combination of these elements presents a striking contrast and provides an unusual experience for individuals who wish to disconnect and find tranquility, or those seeking to connect with others amid today’s fast-paced world.
The task for this unit was to design three posters that relate to each other through the use of elements like letter font, and color. The purpose was to evaluate the performance of the use of programs like Illustrator, Photoshop, AutoCAD, and Rhino. On the first poster, the task was to locate the place where you live on a 1:2000 scale. The second poster requires the representation of a place you would like to visit in Perth and imitate the nature layering through the use of Illustrator and Photoshop programs. Finally, on the last poster, the task was to design the place where you create all your projects using Rhino and Adobe programs.
