Habits govern our lives. Each day, we do the same things over and over without paying attention because it is what makes us comfortable. However, being strongly sited in our comfort zones is a very dangerous place. But why is it so unsafe? Getting comfortable generates subconscious stumbling blocks that bring us a lot of limitations, slows down and even stop us from any inner or outer progress. To gain a mental edge and to grow, you must get out of your comfort zone because if you have not done anything active or out of the usual in a long time, you begin to think and believe that

This is the 14th day of a new year that offers you an abundance of opportunity to create new ways on how to grow and get yourself into the driver seat. So go out there and try some big things or begin with small changes. And remember: Creative people do live longer. Why? Because the brain you have is the driving force and command center for all functions in your body. Under are 50 ways that will assist you by giving zest to your life, improve your capacity for creativity, and boost your brains. I have divided them into 4 groups by level of difficulty because we all have our own personal stage of comfort zone.

Do Something Easy. Practically speaking, some things that seem easy like shutting every digital gadget off may be unbearable. But health wise and emotionally, you really need to get disconnected, even if just for a short time. Consider the possibility of reading instead because it increases your vocabulary, helps you express goals and opens your mind to new ideas and viewpoints. Television only provides a fantasy escape. 1. Read a book a month. 2. Unplug all digital gadgets for one day (the TV, phone, laptop, iPad.) 3. Brush your teeth while standing on one leg. 4. Avoid using a GPS when going somewhere. Use maps. 5. Try a new recipe. Get creative. 6. Limit your TV viewing to an hour daily. 7. Try a new ethnic restaurant. 8. Create a home improvement project. 9. Reconnect with an old friend by phone. 10. Plan some time for family conversation. 11. Take a hike someplace. 12. Schedule a date night with your spouse. 13. Change one of your daily routines. 14. Try again food you hated as a child. 15. Take a Power nap (20’ boosts alertness, 30’ feels physically recovered and 50’ improves creativity). 16. Volunteer for a nonprofit organization or do good deeds. 17. Hold the door for someone. 18. Let another driver proceed ahead of you.

Accomplish Something Uncomfortable. Neurons that trigger together nurture together. There is a great connection between thoughts and coordinating your hands, feet, mouth or body together, even if you think you have never been good at coordination, like dancing or

martial arts. Wasting time and procrastinating practically outline your comfort zone, a place where you really don’t feel like getting out of the sofa because it feels good. 1. Learn a new skill. 2. Download an app and learn how to use it. 3. Learn a new computer program that has you intimidated. 4. Watch a TV show in another language. 5. Find a new hobby connected with physical movement like a Martial art. 6. Try painting. 7. Learn to dance. 8. Study a musical instrument. 9. Do small chores with the opposite hand one day a week. 10. Perfect your voice. 11. Learn to type. 12. Run a marathon. 13. Strap on a backpack and get on the Stairmaster setting it for high resistance. 14. Take an art class. 15. Write a book. 16. Learn to swim. 17. Take an improvement class. 18. Play with tougher players if you practice a sport.

Try Something Risky. To expand your comfort zone pretty dramatically, you could accomplish something you have always been scared of. When you take risks, you feel a fear. Use it to make you sharper rather than letting it paralyze you. 1. Jump in parachute. 2. Learn how to fly an airplane. 3. Climb a mountain. 4. Get deliberately lost and then try to find your way back using charts or maps. 5. Take a trapeze class. It sharpens the mind as well as the muscles. 6. Choose a car precision driving class.

Get Out of Your Comfort Zone and Change your Life. By getting out of your comfort zone, you clear your mind of the habits and details of the routine, adopting new concepts and “aha” instants. If confronted with a problem, don’t stress. Instead think creatively about how to solve it. It will give you confidence, make you feel good, put you firmly in the driver seat and change your life. 1. Find a role model who overcame big hurdles to do what you want to do. 2. Realize a major concrete dream requiring many incremental ones.

3. Accomplish a big goal. 4. Hang with people more successful than you. 5. Make friends with someone whose work is completely different from yours. 6. Become a mentor. Everyone has something to offer and to learn. 7. Give presentations. 8. Talk on front of others. Finally, my advice to you is to continue to find ways to get out of your comfort zone because if you go too long without pushing your boundaries, you do decay. You can become more creative just by trying new things. I believe it is important to confirm that not only are some things possible but that everything is possible. Share your thoughts.
