Life has a way of working things out but more than often, not in the way you intended it to be. Yet, as you doubt yourself, you know that when against you, doubt holds you back from taking that next essential step forward. Do you ever wonder how to break free?
On November 3 rd, 1989; I landed on the tarmac, from the window of the plane I could see the Twin towers standing out in downtown New York... and on November 6th, I defected. I thought to myself “You have done it until now, so inhale confidence, exhale doubt. Go ahead and conquer your fears.

You can achieve whatever you want in life if you believe in yourself, and when you believe in yourself, you able to make others believe in you also. Trust me here, because it is not in my intention to lead you astray. After my defection, I found myself in a bus towards Atlanta, Georgia. I knew no one in the States. But I knew that the horse world, in the winter, was moving south. I did not know where I was going to stay or even if I would get a job. I had only the equivalent of $50 in my pocket, it was all of my savings and I wasn’t even speaking English.
The Stepping Stone for Success “One must constantly build dikes of confidence to hold back the flood of doubt “. As you look to the definition of confidence, it comes down to a trust in your own abilities, qualities and judgment. I took one more bus, this time to South Carolina, as I had heard of it before, from other competitors. I was taking a great risk but I had really nothing to lose and maybe everything to gain. We were Sunday, 5.30 in the morning, when I arrived at the little Greyhound station in Camden, South Carolina. As I was standing outside with my bag; I said to myself “What should I do now?” Despite the existing gravitational force, an eagle takes off from mighty heights, soars through the air to get to another place without even thinking about it twice, and all of that by using its wings to travel through air with confidence. Having confidence gives you positive feelings even in difficult negative conditions. Doing things with confidence leads you close to where you want to go. And once you are confident, you have full focus and determination for the realization of your goals.
Go Ahead Inhale Confidence So I decided to walk down the street, called “Fairstreet”, I remember it as if it was yesterday. As I was looking at the houses, my eyes flashed on a big white one, with 2 columns on front of it. I thought to myself “Go ahead, knock at the door and ask”, so without thinking one more second, I inhale confidence, exhale doubt and trusted my intuition, went to the door and knocked. It is up to you to make your wishes come true in life. Life is what you make of it. The beginning of your accomplishments will start the instant you let go of your doubts. When you are confident, then you are successful and if you are successful, then you become even more confident. Through the glass windows of the front door where I was standing, I saw a girl wearing jeans come down the stairs. She asked through the closed door what I wanted; I could not speak English, so I got my old Russian-English dictionary to find the words I desired to express. Somehow I succeeded to tell her that all I wanted was a job and a place to live. Maybe it was a lot to ask for, but she seemed not to mind my request. The door suddenly opened and to my surprise, she let me in the hallway, told me to leave my bag and asked me to come with her. You should know that confidence works as a positive fortification. It is like a muscle, the more you use it the stronger it gets.
7 Reasons Why Confidence is Key 1. Expectation to succeed Confident people know and expect to be successful. They don’t know when but they know for sure that success is inevitable.
2. Facing Fears 2/4
They face their fears and doubts as their will to pursue your dreams, passions, and ambitions is stronger. If you don’t have the guts to face your fears, you won’t fulfill your goals.
3. Persistence The path to victory is anything but straight; it is uncomfortable, bumpy, tough and harsh. The ones who make it are the ones who have an amazing persistence and confidence. They never quit, instead they pick themselves back up, recover and try yet again. The odds are often against you.
4. Risk Taking A confident person takes risks and jumps into the unknown that leads them to opportunities and rewards. To take risks, you need faith and confidence. No risk, no gain. There is a phrase to describe this: “An entrepreneur is someone that jumps off a cliff and builds a plane on the way down”.
5. Path of Self-Discovery and Growth Investing in your future success means discover, grow, and improve the person you are. It requires you to live up to your full potential and to be the best person you can be. Any confident person is in pursuit of his or her potential.
6. Mentor Pivotal Role A mentor helps facilitate your growth and have confidence in your potential, even when doubt shows its head. It is someone who transfers his or her skills and knowledge to someone less experienced by facilitating your growth and confidence in your potential, even when doubt up.
7. Positivity Really difficult to be positive when you don’t even have faith in yourself. Confident people are positive because they have optimism, hope and faith that bright and positive outcomes will arise.
Where Confidence Leads You The girl I had just met was a horse farm manager and introduced herself as Mary Smith. Horses! The universal force was at work again, and it made me realized that I was where I needed to be. Finally we arrived at destination, a racehorse farm called “Sandy Dubose Farm”, it was a very big and beautiful place where horses were raised as foals and “broke” to become race horses. Mary told me to wait and went to talk to the owner to see if I could get a job. 15 minutes after, she came back and said I was hired as a morning jockey, riding and training horses each morning. Sandy, the owner, came out, introduced herself and was glad to have me on her team. I had a job!!! The house where Mary was living was divided in 3 apartments and was renting one on the 2nd floor. There was no room for me as it was too small, but across the hall from her lived another girl, Bridget, and maybe she needed a roommate to share the rent with her as she had two bedrooms. So after having done the chores, cleaned and fed the horses, Mary and I went to the farm where Bridget worked and found her. She was a pretty blonde with green eyes; I could see Mary talking to her. Bridget agreed to have me as a roommate. And that is how, in 4 hours’ time, I got a job and a place to live in the United States. So you see where confidence can lead you. Human beings have a tendency to overthink. Know that overthinking fuels doubt. New experiences form as you stop
