Many of us aspire to the qualities of a successful leader based on some features, actions, ethics and attitudes that mean success. So what are the traits that contribute to make successful leaders? It seems that rather than having one or a few characteristics, they are more likely to reveal many. This is a key to their success. Here are 11 of the qualities required to be a successful leader.

1. Vision. A successful leader thinks things through, figure out where they want to go and plan how to get there. They work with other people to make sure that their vision is followed through. They direct the actions and resources toward their dream making it a reality.

2. Deep Passion. Successful leaders have a deep passion for their work, yet they are rational and objective. They build an aptitude to make a step back so as to look at what they did with a self-critical gaze and accept any mistake they made. If it is a fiasco, they will acknowledge it, because they know it is better to try than not trying at all. Such feeling of objectivity allows them to agree with criticism from other people without taking it personally.

3. Communication Skills. They inspire a “both ways” communication between everyone on the team and are always available. They do their best to be concise and precise when giving guidelines and directives. They articulate their vision plainly. They, especially, avoid generalities and uncertainties that can create any confusion, bad accomplishment and conflict.

4. Extrovert and Introvert. A successful leader is at ease acting as an introvert or extravert. It all depends on what the circumstances call for. They can sit down quietly in the back of a room or in social company and listen to what’s going on without saying a word, or they can go out there, become the center of attention and talk. They are just as comfortable doing one or the other.

5. Confidence. They possess a powerful self-confidence, built on trying and failing, but always continue growing. They are aware of their strong points and limits. They show skills and abilities with no arrogance whatsoever. They assume accountability for personal errors without trying to hide them or put the blame on others.

6. Productive Atmosphere. Successful leaders create an atmosphere that pushes people to develop and prosper. They know that it is impossible to possess all the answers. They work with other individuals to intensify productivity and improve individual fulfillment.

7. Humbleness and Pride. They take pride in their work as it is a vital part of success, but they know that they didn’t reach their success alone so they also recognize they wouldn’t be where they are without their mentors and those who have been on their side along the way. They are humble and proud at the same time.

8. Honesty and Integrity. They are honest and act and react in such manner. Honesty and integrity should be a top priority feature of any leader. Honest successful leaders certainly build trust and assurance. People are not afraid to ask questions and respect the leaders who have integrity.

9. Knowledge. A successful leader is aware that better knowledge and challenging diverse mind-sets intensify people gratification, inspiration and efficiency. They frequently push others to get out of their comfort zone and to see matters from different viewpoints.

10. Perseverance. Successful leaders have a lot of perseverance. They continue in their search for excellence regardless of obstacles and disapproval, and inspire the same in other people. They don't swerve from accomplishing objectives merely because difficulties come their way or there is yet no answer.

11. Success Sharing. They share their successes. Quality entrepreneurs and leaders share the honors and praises with those which helped them to the finish line. They know that positive results are hardly ever the effect of one person's efforts or contribution.

Some Tips Ask people for their opinion rather than telling them yours. Ask people to come up with answers or options rather than telling them the best way to resolve a situation. Provide positive criticism, offer suggestions or emphasize actions to boost more impulsiveness, thinking and novelty. Inquire challenging questions that inspire people to think, plan and act. Especially, they push people to challenge themselves. Encourage others to take appropriate risks. Support others and evaluate what did go wrong and animate other appropriate risks. The reason why such qualities are necessary to be a successful leader is that success is a complex mechanism. Successful leaders have a wide variety of illogical skills, like a car mechanic with a full set of tools.
