Starting a new career later on in life does not mean that you are stupid in the first place; it means that you are intelligent enough to know that it is never too late to be the person you always wanted to be.

With the beginning of my golden age also come my wise years as on November 23rd, I will turn 53. In the year 2013, just a little after my birthday, a little voice arose and whispered to my ear “are you going to start a new career again? You are 50, aren’t you supposed to be already settled by now? Life gave you many opportunities and each

time you blew it”. Suddenly, I felt like something hit me and another whisper slipped into my ear: “What makes you think you are going to make all the way now? Remember that bucket list of yours when you were 35? How many of those did you actually realized?” Then and there, my mind activated the alarm button! I am 50 already and I have only done half of the things I said I would do. I want to go to Bali and Bora Bora. Each time I started to succeed in an occupation, something would come to end what I had begun or I would just walk away because it didn’t satisfy me anymore.

The Best Years I would say that the best years of your life are mostly around your 40s’and 50s’, as those are usually the best times to succeed and to achieve a respectable position and recognition, as well as success. There are exceptions of course, i.e. one of my mentors is 32 years old and is already a multi-millionaire. It depends also on when someone started their business career. I have changed job so many times in my life, that I heard thousands of times that it wasn’t a good thing, but again, if I didn’t I wouldn’t be the person I am today. You need to adapt because with the years, you change, your convictions aren’t the same anymore, your attitude towards life becomes different and eventually you realize that you need to settle down at one point in time.

The Acceptance As the days went by, I then became unquenchable, reading everything about success and a better way of life for myself. Here I was, in a 50’s life crisis, looking at people that found glory earlier in life and being a little bit envious. It is when I decided, once more, to move to another country. I thought to myself “I am sure that I am not the only one who has won and lost that many times, many other individuals out there are afraid of having a new career because it may be too late, feeling the same way as I do, looking for an answer and striving to be successful once and for all.” Two years after moving and having settled down, I finally found my Eldorado and started a new career. “Not all those who wander are lost” – J.R.R Tolkien

Do You Want a New Career? Is that little inner voice breathing in your ear? Do you like your job? Are you, at this point, satisfied with your achievements? Did you accomplish some of the things on your bucket list? You know the answers. All I can tell you is that you are able to begin a new career at any point in life. It may sound cool at first, but you might say “I can’t do that, I have to work, pay my bills, provide for my family, feed the dog, and yet, you want me to find a new career.” And I would say “Yes, you can, there is always time.” How? Start today and take little steps towards the new path of your choice. A new career comes in all sorts of diversity and perhaps for you it means something different, but there are many famous examples of people who have decided on a new vocation or a break later on in life.
