One day, I just knew that the time had come to move forward. It took me one more year of me thinking that it wasn’t yet the right time before the trigger in my mind happened. “Do not wait: the time will never be ‘just right’…” – Napoleon Hill And before that very moment, I knew I had it in me, but I kept putting things off. At the time, as a customer sales representative in the streets of Vienna, I watched colleagues come and go with no real purpose in life. Many of them were young and still indecisive of their future.
Never Too Old to Start Over But not me, at the age of 52 after having had many life opportunities in various unrelated fields, I knew what I wanted. I was divorced, I had no mortgage, no children, but I had now to take courses in a field I knew very little about. In my last job, I had worked a lot to secure my position as one of the best sales representatives, and I had left it to start all over again.

I never imagined leaving it all behind me to pursue a career online, but I realized that it was my vision, my dream to have such a life, something that gave me the freedom to travel more and be with my family in Ukraine anytime I wanted to do so. But I also realized that it wouldn’t be an easy task if I had to make the incredible decision to create my own business, an online venture filled of my passions and freedom. So I decided to conquer my future. I had to show myself that I was Sergei aka “Ice Man” in all aspects of my life. The journey between who I once was and who I am becoming is where life takes place.
Fear is What Stops You As Napoleon Hill states so well “… immune to the fear and blind to the possibility of failure…” I was ready to venture out on my own. And today here I am before you doing exactly what I decided to do, I moved several steps forward since that day where I made the decision that is was time for me to move forward. And I do still move forward. You see, learning is not only for school, it is for life! Knowledge is one of the major keys to success and to move forward. What are you afraid of, that in quitting you might not succeed? Well, if it is what you are thinking right now, that is what will happen. Get your worst fear out of the way. Don’t be afraid to quit your job and don’t think that your business will fail, or that you won’t make any money.
Minimize the Risk If you cannot shake off the fear of security for yourself or your loved ones, and if it is what stops you, then remove the fear entirely by keeping working your 9-to5 while slowly building your online business. You will then minimize the risk. Quit later only when you know that the moment has come and you can live better than with your day-job income, and expand your business. “I am not a product of my circumstances, I am a product of my decisions” – Stephen Covey And yes, it might certainly take longer to build your business in your off time, because you will have less time than before to be with the family, to have freedom or to follow your hobbies.

Moving Forward to Success Moving forward on the road to success is not straight. There is a steep curve that others called failure, a loop called confusion, speed bumps called friends, red lights called envy, caution called family. You will be discouraged at times, you might lose some friends, you may almost talk yourself out of it for a hundred times, you will have flat tires called your job, but if you have a spare called determination, an engine called perseverance, a driver called will power, well then you will make it to a place called success. Stop being afraid of what could go wrong and start being positive about what could go right. Proceed as if success is inevitable. Your last name should be ‘Hungry’ and your first name ‘Always’.
Get Rid of the Virus What, you don’t think you are smart enough, good enough, talented enough. Do not believe these things about yourself for even a minute, as a virus called self-doubt is feeding your fear. Remember that your strength doesn’t come from lifting weights; it comes from lifting yourself up every time you were or are knocked down. Entrepreneurs have always been considered as weird or crazy people. The entrepreneurs average 3.8 failures before final success. What sets the successful ones apart is their amazing persistence to move forward. So here are 8 Things to Give Up: 1. Doubting yourself 2. Fear of failure 3. Criticizing yourself and others 4. Procrastination 5. Fear of success 6. People pleasing 7. Negative thinking 8. Negative self-talk Be always careful about the two last things. What I mean is that when you have a negative thinking or a negative self-talk, it is a conversation with the universe and it is what you are focusing on.
Get Out of the Comfortable Zone You don’t like your job and want to quit, but every day you keep doing it. It means that you stay in a comfort zone as long as you think that quitting would be too hard on you. It feels like climbing to the top of the highest mountain in the world and where you are now feels like some peaceful gardens. Did you ever hear the quote by Jim Rohn that says “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”

Surround yourself with people who are successful or have the same mentality as you. I don’t ask you to forget the friends you have or your family, no, I ask you to spend time reading about, being and talking with such individuals. As your circle of friends will decrease it will increase in value! So, you will never know whether you can make it on your own if you don’t try to move forward. I certainly don’t have all the answers. But on my part, I believe you can overcome anything and build your own business.
