The power of this principle helps you understand that the majority of results come from a minority of efforts.

Now, this has real value for your life and work because if you can figure out which actions produce the best outcomes, you can direct your time and focus far more efficiently on those activities. In other words, you can do more of what matters and spend less time on unproductive stuff.

The Pareto principle, as it became known, may seem simple at a glance, but it has an important influence which affects us all in every aspect of our lives. It is called this way after an Italian economy expert named Vilfredo Pareto found in 1906 that 20% of the population had possession of 80% of the country’s land property. So we can deduct that the Pareto Principle is purely the realization that most things in life are unevenly distributed. But why things aren’t distributed evenly?

Explaining the Pareto Principle First, you must understand that the numbers 20 and 80 do not always need to add off because each piece of time or work does not provide the same quantity. For instance, if in a group of 100 workers, 30 of them would do all the work while the other 70 plays around, it would mean that 30% of the workers did 100% of the work. So you should know that the numbers are not always exactly 20% and 80%. It shows that most things in life such as work, result, productivity are unevenly distributed because some people or things produce more than others. Don’t get me wrong, the Pareto principle or 80/20 rule is a tremendously powerful tool, when someone applies it correctly, to consider for growing any business. The secret is to know how and when to use it and to leverage its expanding properties. The Pareto principle assists you in grasping the fact that the majority of outcomes come from a minority of contributions. Therefore, you should: Focus on satisfying the 20% of customers who provide 80% of the earnings. Focus on rewarding the 20% of employees who provide 80% of results. The point I am trying to make is to understand that you can recurrently focus your efforts on the 20% that makes a difference, instead of the 80% that doesn’t put much effort.

Understanding the Power of the 80/20 Rule Meaning that by identifying the best types of your top 20% clients who characterize 80% of your sales, it would help you find more customers like them and dramatically raise your chances of sales and profits. You need to understand that as each additional hour of effort passes, each additional worker is giving less energy to the final result. In conclusion, you will spend a lot of time on trivial details. So you need to understand the power of the 80/20 rule fully. Let’s say you are an architect who is creating possible projects for a customer. But your client does not know what kind of house he wants, let alone the color. It would be a no sense to spend the time and create a perfect detailed drawing. It would make more sense to show him some different ideas, get a general direction by letting him make a choice, and then work out the details. The goal would be to place the amount of effort needed to get the most for your money. It signifies that in the beginning phase, it may be better to get a bulk of quick examples rather than just one complete and refined product.

So make that particular area a delight to be and work in. Effectiveness. Beginning a task or project is the most efficient thing you can do. As time passes, you can see 20% of the results for 80% of your efforts. If you do understand the Pareto principle, you can choose if it is worth carrying on achieving 100%. 80% is usually good enough. And as you practice your craft, you will increase your expertise and have a precise idea of how much time and effort to apply. Again, know that this is only a rule, not an exact law. At times, you will have to accomplish 100% to take the high quality to excellence. Note that you may need to go the extra mile to provide high quality or to accomplish completion.
