Design three paperback covers which have a cohesive look as a set. Use only three spot colors and adhere to other restrictions to design the book covers with a t ypographic approach.

I came up with the idea of myster y novels which are based on one murder case, but writ ten from three different perspectives: the victim, the murderer and the detective. I visualized those different perspectives in the metaphor of a puzzle and created a t ypographic illustration of a three-dimensional cube that rotated and changed subjects with each cover and p o r t r a y e d t h e m o o d o f t h i s u r b a n m y s t e r y.

OBJECTIVE:

Help create a bet ter urban environment with the power of graphic design. Make the social activit y of sidewalk sweeping more fun, valuable and accessible to people who are living in the urban area of San Francisco.

APPROACH :

I came up with the idea of an iPhone App c a ll e d “ S w e e p s p o t ,” w h i c h a ll o w s p e o p l e t o find a street sweeping spot and get rewards provided by sponsors after they participate in the street sweeping. The iPhone App also visualizes achievements which people made for our cit y of San Francisco. This is a ser vice model for urban beautification which could possibly change the relationship between p e o p l e a n d t h e c i t y. 19 2
