KINDER'S GARDEN Kindergarten Architecture Design Nonsite design Spring 2014 Individual, academic
How can we design a more playful kindergarten for children? How could kindergarten itself be playful? Can we break the boundary of architecture and landscape so kids can keep running inside and out. After studying children’s behavior, it is found out that children love slanted plane. Why not transform the regular cube to a irregular volume? Transforming the vertical wall to slanted one, I create the structural system of polyhedron that can be coupled each other to assemble, and meanwhile, the structure can be used for playgrounds.
Behavior Study Children like to climb, play with irregular volumes. Thus, leaning surface is chosen to be used as the wall of kindergarten, the polyhedron is the unit of the kindergarten architecture as well as the playgrounds for each classes.

TRANSPARENCY
Chinese Traditional Garden design Spring 2015, 6 weeks Instructor: Yuhui Zhu Individual, Academic Skills: Hand drawings, Sketch Up
The theory of Transparency, which has been influential on western modernism architecture, originated from Colin Rowe in 1964. The concept of “shallow space” plays a key role in transforming this theory from modernism painting to modernism architecture. The Traditional Chinese Garden and the Chinese landscape painting emerged simultaneously, and many theories of the two forms of art had great effects on each other, which resembles the interaction between the cubism painting and modernism architecture. This similarity provides basis to the analysis of “shallow space” in traditional Chinese gardens and the summary of the approaches to realize “shallow space” will make it possible to reconstruct this poetic traditional space.
Shallow Space
The shallow space is implied from the view of Tiyun Room where there are at least six layers of space can be imagined when walking through the garden and experiencing the "deep space".
Deep Space
Depth of the space corresponds to the layers in the shallow space. When viewers experience the deep space, visitors will be surprised at its richness of space.

DELICIOUSCAPE: Purification and Harvest Installation Design Huangpu River, Shanghai Spring 2015, 3 weeks Group work: 3 students Contribution: Concept design 50%, Research 70% , Analysis Diagrams 50%
Oyster is a delicious food and be deeply embedded in the culture of coastal cities. What’s more, it can also filter the pollutants in the water. In the situation where people long for recreational and clean Huangpu River, “living purifier” is proposed to purify and harvest at the same time. It is a multi-layered installation that can be connected each other. It is visioned as a carrier to bring up the riverbank urban life.

Pollution of Huangpu River
Alongside the Huangpu River, there are residential pollution, industrial pollution and agricultural pollution. Some of the toxic elements can be addressed by oyster, especially for the residential pollution.

use the street as catalyst, and bring back the traditional vibrancy and lost cultural identities on the street. By analyzing elements from point, line, and plane, master plan along with the development order is planned for the government and planners. By evaluating and providing spatial strategies, a series of scenarios are provided as a design toolkit for revitalization.
Urbanization in Guangzhou
Olympic New City convers an area of 352ha. It will be urbanized and developed into a large community of living, working and recreation according to the zoning.

URBAN SUCCESSIONS Urban Planning And Design
Worcester, MA, United States Spring 2017 Instructor: Elizabeth Hermann Type: Individual Work
The site was lost to fire in 1999 and left the community without a physical community, without a town center, and without jobs. Given the concepts of systems and successions, the project studies the succession of Blackstone River, the only element that keeps flowing over time and over site. I see the river as the engine and the base to regenerate South Grafton. As its natural force on cutting edge, I propose a growing water system, where the city will expand from the existing river bank to further development along the branches and canals. In the future, it will become a water-connected green city and as a carrier for the region development.
SUCCESSION Systems and successions from the standpoints of site and river ecology, human lifespan, urban infrastructure and urban regeneration.

TRANSECT OF BLUE
Landscape Design Lower Mississippi Delta, Louisiana Fall 2018, 12 weeks Instructor: Elizabeth Dean Hermann Type: Individual Work
This project is an Alternative design approach to research and design, from music to landscape. Lower Mississippi River Delta is the origin of slavery history as well as the birth of Blues. The community of site is suffering flooding issue, where the levee protects the inner city of New Orleans. Could landscape reveal the embedded slavery history and address the flooding issue of Lower Mississippi River Delta? I am looking for a design approach that can be both culturally poetic and ecologically pragmatic.

From Blues to Landscape
The charcoal drawing inteprets a Delta Blues St Louis by W.c Handy, the father of Blues. Hatred, love, misery, happiness, what the blues sang is conveyed to the landscape in the lower Mississippi River Delta. This is a delta landscape that drops you down and lures you up.
