YILDIRIM BEYAZIT UNIVERSITY ECE 203 - ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS 1 LABORATORY MANUAL – 4 – NONLINEAR RESISTIVE CIRCUITS Laboratory Exercise: 1) Construct the circuit in figure1. R1=3.3kΩ, R2=10kΩ, R3=1kΩ, Diodes are 1N4007 diodes, Vin(t)=5sin(2000πt).
Figure 1 Make the oscilloscope connections as in figure1. Observe and plot voltages Vout and Vin. Comment on the waveforms.
2) Construct the circuit in figure2. R = 10kâ„Ś, Diode is 1n4007, Vin(t) = 1 sin(2000Ď€t).
Figure 2: Half wave rectifier
You can make the switch by connecting and disconnecting a simple cable. Make the oscilloscope connections as in figure2. Observe and plot the voltage VR for switch S opened and closed cases. Comment on the differences of both plots.
3) Construct the circuit in figure3. R= 1kΩ, Vin(t) = 5 sin(2000πt) V, diodes are LED(Light Emitting Diode).
Figure 3: Full Wave Rectifier Diode Bridge Measure and plot the voltage seen on resistor R, or namely VR. Comment on the waveform. Remember though, as the figure points out you will need to use two oscilloscope channels and the MATH function CH1 – CH2 in order to plot VR. You cannot measure VR with only one channel probes. Explain why not. The LED pins are shown below;
4) Now change the input voltage Vin frequency to 0.5Hz for the circuit at Figure 3. Observe how the LEDs are lighting. Comment on your understanding of the circuit.
5) Explain the differences between half rectifiers and full wave diode bridge rectifiers. Explain where full rectifier circuits are used. (Hint: refer to preliminary notes) Note: On your reports please clearly state your references. DO NOT copy and paste. Write your findings in your own words.
