Christian Education Program undergoing changes A letter from Father Joe:

Dear Parishioners and friends of St. Augustine’s,

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I am writing you this letter to inform you that in the hopes of creating a stronger Christian Education Program, some modifications are taking place at this time. Until a future date yet to be determined, our 9:30 a.m. Children’s Sunday School will temporarily not take

REMINDER: TODAY is first dinner/games night In lieu of the First Sunday Brunch, we will be changing to quarterly get togethers for fun and fellowship. The first one will be on TODAY, January 9th. We will get together at 4 PM for games and dinner will be served at 6 PM. (We will be providing dinner so we will need reservations). Every family brings a game you’d like to play and share with someone else.

Other functions will be a Mardi Gras dinner and an Easter Brunch. More information to come at a later date so watch for it in the Canticle.

The Altar Guild needs donations to the flower fund year round. Consider making a memorial or thanksgiving donation. The Flower Dedication

Book is located on the counter in the Commons Area. Make donation checks to “St. Augustine Episcopal Church and write “Altar Guild‐ Flowers” in the memo space to assure that the funds will be directed to the appropriate account. Thank you.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION: FROM PAGE ONE place. It is important to note that if any children do show up at 9:30 a.m., snacks as well as appropriate biblically based videos will be available. The “Children’s Moment” which we began during Advent at the 10:30 Liturgy will continue and will serve as a teaching tool for our children in the upcoming year.

Following the Children’s Moment, the children at St. Augustine will go to the Children’s Chapel to participate in prayers, crafts and other activities. They will rejoin us in the Nave during the Peace for communion.

As we make our transition, your ideas and input are vitally important. On Sunday, January 16th 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Mrs. Sabrina Evans, who is the Diocesan Director for Christian Education and a beloved member or our congregation will lead a Faith Formation workshop. I invite all to attend this information session as we make plans for the bright future St. Augustine’s has for our children, youth and adults. Let me take this opportunity to offer my sincere thanks to Mrs. Pam Neville, former Sunday School Director, for her countless years of devoted service. We are confident

that God will bless her in her future endeavors. I would also like to thank the current teachers who did a stellar job and helped to make the 2010 year a success. The faith formation of our children is paramount to the life of St. Augustine’s. We ask for prayers and participation in this new education and training program for our children. From Sabrina Evans: As we are preparing to look at Christian Formation as a whole in the parish, we will start by looking at all opportunities for Formation already offered. Begin to write down all those things that are offered to the parish, from camels to Birthday prayers, so we can celebrate the things the parish is currently doing. We will also want to share your stories of what you remember growing up as a part of your own formation. From here, we will continue our discussions on what the parish thinks should be offered to different age groups and then talk about how to do this.

Christmas Pageant

The Christmas Pageant was held at 5:30 Christmas Eve, and was a beautiful event, complete with a birthday party for Jesus. Many children participated this year, and the props and costumes were stellar.

The spirit of the Magi – complete with camels

Two special guests — both four‐footed, helped us celebrate the feast of the Epiphany.

They were two camels, all the way from Gentry, Ark., named Michael and Issac. Father Joe called it a “Christmas caravan.” Michael, the baby, promenaded inside the sanctuary, while Isaac, the larger, riding camel waited outside for kids to ride him.
