Known as Bali’s sister island, Lombok that often described as Bali 20 years ago, is the promising island that will be another tourist destination to which after I set a foot indeed, I am amused upon seeing the stunning white sand beaches and the scenic panorama. I come to Lombok by Blue Beach Express, a fast boat from Padang Bai that took me two hours journey and really glad to have meet her crew very friendly. Also, there is free transport service from your hotel to Padang Bai. After we arrived in Lombok, I took a taxi to Senggigi which main town is approximately 45 minutes drive from Teluk Nara. A great base for exploring the rest of the island , Senggigi beach is a large bay that form the centre connection with the main road running parallel to the beach and various resorts such as Senggigi Beach Hotel, The Santosa Villas and Resorts that lined up beautifully in the space between, offer a full range of accommodation facilities that meet the needs of single, couple or family. After checking in Senggigi Beach Hotel, a comfortably is set along the western beach front of Lombok and commands spectacular sunset view

volcano silhouetted on the horizon like a giant pyramid floating in the ocean. At night, Jalan Raya Senggigi (the main street) comes alive. Dine in the restaurants catering to all tastes and budget, listen to live music at the bars, or dance the night away at the nightclubs. A pleasant day has been spent and as night crawled I go back to the hotel for rest, best prepared for another journey. of Mount Agung on the neighbouring island of Bali. Senggigi Beach Hotel Resort has 64 garden room, 40 sea view room, garden view bungalow 26, and 18 sea view bungalow and 2 deluxe bungalow. The garden rooms are located in village style “long house” with private balcony. The sea view bungalows and garden view bungalows are furnished with lush tropical colour and textures, solid teakwood floor and local rattan, and have a sunset

After lunch, I walk to Art Market in Senggigi ( Pasar seni ) that is situated between the main road and Senggigi beach. In the centre of the art market there is a small area where cultural performances are sometimes staged. Please look at the information for the schedule of free performances like traditional stick – fighting ( peresean ) competition. Shopping is so much fun with numerous small stalls selling handicrafts, t- shirts, sarongs, clothing and souvenirs from around the island.

On the next day, I am getting around in central Lombok. Heading south from the main road about a half an hour drive southeast of Cakra negara, is the small and dusty local town of Praya; the hub of the south and the seat of the Central Lombok governmental administration. There is local market every Saturday and Praya is the central to many areas of handicrafts villages. Five kilometres to the west is a weaving village of Sukarara where quality ikat and traditional woven

Several of the shops sell very nice wooden and rattan handicrafts and, if you don’t have time to visit the small craft villages, these are a good buy at reasonable prices.

view. The Deluxe bungalows are at the hotel’s prime location near to swimming pool and restaurant with sea view. As I am looking for a place to lunch , I choose at the De Quake restaurant. Located in Senggigi’s Art Market, de Quake restaurant, is a large breezy place , with lots of comfortable chairs and tables overlooking the gorgeous sea view. We take a seat on the breezy second floor which has undisturbed sea view and a decent crowd gathered for lunch. ( you can read more at page 27 )

During the day, local seller play their wares along the beach front selling copy designer watches, pearls and silver jewellery, as well as massages and manicures. Though, they are desperate to make a living and can be annoying but, if you aren’t interested in buying anything, a polite refusal will usually work. Alternatively, sit down and see what they have to offer. Remember to bargain for everything, but also bear in mind that the sellers often have families to support and selling on the beach is their only source of income. One of the most spectacular sights on the island is the sunset viewed from Senggigi Beach, with the bright orange sun sinking into the sea to the west and Bali’s Gunung Agung

textiles are displayed and sold. You can try them on but only ladies are allowed. Drive slightly further south is Kuta. It is the main town and tourism centre on the south coast of Lombok and also the hub to discover the incredible southern beaches and other tourist attractions in the island. Kuta and surrounding beaches have gained an international reputation for some of the best

surfing destinations in South East Asia. It is where photographers from all around the world and draw crowds to bake on the blindingly white sand, swim in the crystal clear ocean and challenge some of the best surf breaks in Indonesia. Kuta attracts thousands of visitor annually for the great surf location at Gerupuk, Tanjung A’an and nearby beaches. It is easy to hire a board and a surf guide for beginner while experienced

surfers can access the more challenging surf breaks in the area. On my way to Senggigi hotel, I take a look at the Mataram Shopping Mall. The sole shopping mall in Lombok. Located just past the monument on the main road from Mataram to Cakra, running between two main streets in Mataram. The mall was extended in 2008 and houses an impressive selection of shops and restaurants, together with a supermarket and large department store.

Hereafter, as I have an appointment for dinner in Seaside restaurant at Sentosa Villas and Resort in Senggigi, I could not stay longer. I rushed back to the hotel.

The following is places that you must visit in Lombok : The Rinjani National Park at Senaru village. A nature reserve of 41.330 hectares surrounding the volcano that provides many opportunities for eco-tourism. The whole area is a picturesque haven, featuring magnificent waterfalls, lush and accessible jungle trekking, traditional villages, and plantations of tobacco and cashew nuts, grown alongside verdant rice terraces.

Before I have dinner, I try reflexology Massage in Marshander, the only professional beauty and helath care Spa in Senggigi. The spa that located in Senggigi square (next to cafe lumbi ) Senggigi. Also just here, you can find the Balinesse Massage. I recommend you Marshander as you will eventually need to be pampered after the long and tiring day.

Sendang Gile Waterfall at Senaru is -among Lombok most spectacular view to 200 vertical steps down. The water cascade in a steep vertical drop, around 40 m down the hill side into a rocky stream below.

Having a romantic dinner in Seaside Restaurant in Senggigi. Open daily, Seaside serves Local and western menus. Sitting across the swimming pool and beachfront I could feel the serene atmosphere especially when sound of waves is heard and the breeze sweep down my hair. ( Read more on page 26 ) Lombok is indeed a great place to visit and more places are waiting to be discovered. The other largeparts of island are still heavy forested and shall be retained for nature.

Some Jungles and forests are accessible for trekking and exploration. Waterfalls, rivers, hills and mountains provide myriad opportunities for eco-tourism.

Pura Narmada or Narmada Temple, 10 km east to Cakranegara where the local people believe that pre spring – fed water from narmada helps to keep and stay young as well as healthy . I wish you a memorable holiday in Lombok. A destination that ought to be discovered.

As I packed, I feel hesitate to leave this implausible island. I will definetly miss it so much. END

An indulgence of Beachfront Treats An elegant and romantic atmosphere is felt as you sat and look across the gorgeous pool and beachfront at Seaside restaurant in The Sentosa Villas and Resort in Senggigi, Lombok Island. The garden Cabanas that rather secluded has been a perfect choice for intimate and natural setting. Open daily for lunch and dinner, Seaside Restaurant serves variety menus that suit your preference by the chef himself. Within his 22 working experience as a chef, Chef Hilman whom previously worked in Istana Negara for 2 years had served many Goverment VIP and also President Obama during his visit last year. Without doubt, all his menu is very well served. A traditional Lombok menu which Chef Hilman prepared is a spicy and piquent Ayam Taliwang ( Free range spring chicken ) is used as it gives better flavour than farmed chicken. Ayam taliwang then perfectly served with steamed white rice and flavour some sauce. Next, come Pelecing Kangkung ( Locally grown water spinach ) for which Lombok is well known throughout Indonesia.Pelecing kangkung that is boiled and stirred with pelecing (chilly sauce) then served with fresh bean sprouts and grated coconut. Lastly its topped with crunchy fried peanut. De Quake

An inspiration feast Located at Senggigi’s Art market, De Quake an International fusion restaurant that serves Indonesian, Thai and Western restaurant. Furnished with comfortable chairs and tables, arrange spaciously in the large breezy sea view. As I sit on the second floor I could feel the undisturbed gorgeous sea view despite the crowd that slowly filled the restaurant. Various menus that have been created to reflect the relaxed beach setting are prepared with thoughtful, passion and dedication .

De Quake Caesar Salad is an ideal choice for lunch that made of Romaine lettuce mixed with Veal bacon, a home made croutons and fresh imported parmesan cheese is tossed into De Quake special home made Caesar dressing. You can see for the salad bowl, yes it’s made by deep fried dumpling skin. Wow, the chef is very creative, and I am not surprise to learn that de Quake’s chef, Bryce Adamson is an executive chef who has experience of working in Pakistan, Maldives and five stars hotel in the world. He is also an executive chef in Qunci Villas, Jl.Raya Mangsit, Senggigi , Lombok.

I love sandwich and i am very hungry, so the Smoke Turkey Sandwich is a great choice, Sandwich with deliciously smoke turkey and vegetables is perfect combination indeed. Followed by Quaken Chicken , original chef idea, made from herb encrusted chicken supreme roasted to perfection with Chili, Pineapple and roasted pepper , served on a bed of roasted garlic mashed and organic vegetables. Without a doubt, this flavoursome dish is created beautifully. No body can say no to a dessert as sweet as Banana and Caramel no Bake Cheese Cake served with cinnamon ice cream, and deliciously soft and creamy the wonderful Chocolate Delight, a chocolate mousse topped with chocolate ganache and showered with white chocolate shavings. The flavour will definitely melt your heart. It is no wonder that De Quake has 2# in trip Advisor for Restaurants travellers recommend, as Great service, appetizing dishes, dazzling sea view and reasonable price are offered. Jl. Lhasa

an impressive heritage with spiritual history Lhasa is rightly one of the most featured and dreamt-about cities in the world. This is not only because of its high altitude at 3,650 meters (11,975 feet) which means remoteness and limited accessibility, but also because of its over 1,000 years’ cultural and spiritual history which leaves an impressive heritage that has helped to create the romantic and mysterious Tibetan religion. There are plenty of sights in and around Lhasa to keep most visitors occupied for at least a week: The Potala Palace (Podrang Potala) - Situated on the Red Hill of central Lhasa, Potala Palace is the highest ancient palace in the world, reaching 3,767.19m (12,359.55ft) at the topmost point. Potala named after a holy hill in South India is a Sanskrit word meaning “Abode of the Avalokitesvara (Buddha of Mercy).” The Jokhang Temple (Tsuglagkhang) -The Jokhang, or “House of the Lord,” is the holiest site in Tibet and is the ultimate pilgrimage destination for Tibetan Buddhists. Here, you will glimpse monks debating in one of the numerous back courtyards or perceive their studying forms through the thin curtains of their quarters. Otherwise, looking out, you will enjoy spectacular views across the Barkhor, the pilgrimage route encircling the Jokhang Temple, and across the roofs of Lhasa towards the Potala Palace. The Barkhor Street market a circular street around the Jokhang Temple in the center of the old section of Lhasa, it is the oldest street in a very traditional style in Tibet, where you can enjoy bargaining with the local Tibetan vendors for the handicrafts which are rare to be seen elsewhere in the world. April to October is regarded as the best seasons for traveling Lhasa. More specifically, the best months are May, June, September or October as July and August are rainy months. Summer is not that hot and winter is not that cold in Lhasa, but it experiences a large difference in temperature from morning to night.

Orangutan Sage of the forest

Orangutan

Orangutan is the only member of the world’s great apes family in Asia. There are two species of orangutans, the Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii) distributed over Sumatera Island and the Borneaen orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) distributed in Kalimantan Island (Borneo). The other three species of great apes can be found in Africa: chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes), the gorilla (Gorilla gorilla), and the Bonobo (Pan paniscus). Orangutan are belongs to the order of Primata and the Ponginae. Based on research in genetic, morphology, ecology, behavior, and life history, the Sumatran orangutans are proven to be different from their Borneo relatives (Delgado & van Schaik, 2000, Groves, 2001, Zhang et al., 2001). The Sumatran orangutan and Borneo orangutan were geographically separated at least since 10,000 years ago, when the increase of sea levels occured between both islands. The Borneo orangutan is classified into 3 sub-species (Groves, 2001; Warren et al., 2001), namely: Pongo pygmaeus pygmaeus, ranging from northwest Kalimantan (Betung Kerihun and Lake Sentarum National Parks, as well as the surrounding area) north of Kapuas river, across the east of Serawak state (Malaysia); Pongo pygmaeus wurmbii, ranging from southwest Kalimantan to the south of Kapuas river through the Barito river; and Pongo pygmaeus morio: ranging from Sabah and eastern Kalimantan until the Mahakam river. Physical characteristic: 1. The Borneaen orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) possess a larger body, has a dark or reddish brown, rare and short hair, and they have reddish or greenish spots during infancy. 2. The Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii) has a smaller body, has a bright or orange hair and their arms are longer than feet ; Generally, male orangutan has cheeckpads which get larger as they grow and its body is twice bigger than a female orangutan with the weight ranges from 50-90 kg.

Food and Forest Regeneration: Orangutans eat fruits (frugivore). They also eat leaves, flowers, and cambium. Termites and ants are part of their diet to obtain protein. For minerals, orangutans sometimes eat soil. Orangutans eat meat and seeds. Edible seeds got mixed in their feces, making it possible to grow into a new plant and thus help forest regeneration. Orangutans also ‘eat on the way’ during their exploration between trees. They spit seeds while doing so far from the parent tree. This way, they help spread the population area of trees.

Now, hundreds of Orphaned Orangutan are in rescue as their mother are killed by wild hunter. BOS Foundation in conjunction with Natural Resource Conservation Center are working to rescue Orangutan who lost their homes. Orangutan who were rescued, taken to the Orangutan Reintroduction Center to learn how to survive in the forest before they can be released back into their natural habitats. You can reach out and take part in the rescue mission-BOS Orangutan with to be a donation or adopt the orangutan. Let’s help them.

Jakarta Indonesia

Established Whether you love it or hate it, there is no escaping Jakarta, Indonesia’s overweight capital. This ‘Big Durian’ is filled with all the good and bad of Indonesian life. At first glance, this hot, smoggy city, which sprawls for miles over a featureless plain, feels like nothing more than a waiting lounge for the millions queuing up to make their fortune. Jakarta’s infamous macet chokes its freeways, town planning is anathema and all attempts to forge a central focal point for the city have stuttered and ultimately failed. The first ? or only ? thought on most travellers’ minds is how quickly the city and its polluted streets can be left behind. Jakarta certainly isn’t a primary tourist destination, but parts of the old city (Kota) offer an interesting insight into the capital’s long history, and there are a handful of good museums scattered about. But if you want to get under the skin of Indonesia, a visit to this mammoth city is an absolute must.

The Dutch East India Company governed Jakarta from 1619 renaming it Batavia. Their city’s heart was the cobblestone square, Taman Fatahillah bounded by the great canal, Kali Besar, to the west, which was lined by grand early 18th century town houses. South of the square, visit the Jakarta History Museum (Museum Sejarah Jakarta), housed in the 1627, bell-towered town hall, and uncover more of Indonesia’s history under Dutch rule. If we stand on top of Menara Syahbandar (the Lookout Tower) across the bridge over the Kali Besar, we enjoy a view of oldest area of Jakarta. To the north we can see the present old harbor with its colorful prahu (saliboats) and the Java Sea. Some 300 meters to the south, you can find a renovated old drawbridge. In the time of the Dutch East-India Company colonialism, the bridge was called Hoender pasarbrug or Chicken Market Bridge. At that time, between 17th and early 18 centuries, ships could sail further up to the river Ciliwung. Towards the south of this drawbridge, the once busy harbor town of Sunda Kelapa stretched along both sides of the river between the 12th century and 15th century. A short distance to the south of Sunda Kelapa Harbor Jakarta History Museum , Fine Arts Museum and the Puppet Museum stand surrounding Fatahillah Park , Batavia’s old town square. If you come on Sunday, be sure to arrive at the Puppet Museum around 10am for a dose of Indonesian ethnic entertainment, a wayang kulit puppet performance. Further away at Jalan Gajah Madah is the National Archive Building , a window to the opulent lifestyle of well-to-do Dutch colonists in the bygone era. The areas around Menara Syahbandar was once the center of Kota Batavia. It was the center of a trading network with wide spread agents reaching Deshima (Nagasaki) in Japan, Surate in Persia and Capetown in South Africa. Inter-trade among Asia was more profitable than inter-trade between Asia and Europe. And the Pasar Ikan (Market Fish) once was the pulse. Here, the site where the origin of the capital of Indonesia, Jakarta, came from.

If you have kids, don’t be missed to visit Kidzania . Opened in November 2007 at the Pacific Place Jakarta, Kidzania Jakarta is an educational indoor theme park. The ticket is quite expensive, but worth the experience. This miniature town gives role-playing games an educative twist. Your kids can learn to “work” as doctors, firefighters, factory workers, bakers, police officers, pilot, etc while earning Kidzos (Kidzania money). It’s very fun, unfortunately kids older than 16 (or was it 15?) can’t play in the indoor park. For parents it can be quite boring, so if you’re a parent, make sure you have something to do to occupy your time.
