olourful support to the members of the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) community marked the Delhi Queer Pride 2011 as hundreds of people from across the country took to the streets on Sunday. The candlelight march, from Barakhamba Road to Jantar Mantar, sought the end of discrimination against the community. Placards with hard-hitting slogans, colourful flags and the beats of drums and dholaks set the mood of the parade. Fashion

designer Manish Arora, who was seen greeting people and clicking pictures during the parade, said, “I feel so good to be here. It’s so overwhelming to see such a turn out.” The march not only saw participation from adults, but also from children. The highlight of this edition was the 10-metre long rainbow queer flag, which was unveiled at the commencement of the parade and was carried by the supporters till the end.

In the morning today, while driving from Ghaziabad to my office in New Delhi, I took a new route than the usual one, since I had to go to Connaught Place, in central Delhi, rather than south Delhi. I had planned to take the help of the big blue coloured sign boards to find my way but to my horror, the huge signboards had all been covered by advertisements of political candidates. As a result, I had to keep asking fellow commuters at red lights for directions. Is there no respect for law or probity? —Ashish Rai Dear Diary, Travelling in the Delhi Metro, my friend Isha and I have come to a conclusion that most youngsters have no respect for elders. Few days ago, we were travelling towards Kashmiri Gate and the metro was full as usual.
We saw a group of youngsters not caring about the old man who was standing behind them. They kept falling onto him at every jerk and didn’t seem to care about his inconvenience, even after him having repeatedly told them not to do so. Payal Goyal Dear Diary, The day that Delhi saw the Half Marathon, I was running late for office. And to add to my worry was my autowallah, who was interested in everything else on the road than driving. He kept matching his pace with a lady driving a scooty, only to ogle at her at every possibility. And if this wasn’t enough, when he saw the marathon guys running on a nearby road, he just got off to laugh at the fat ones who had participated. Though I reached office late because of him, this incident made me laugh a lot the entire day. —Smita Roy
I am a dadi but not a rudhivadi!
Gandhi caps that made a comeback earlier this year with Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption movement were also a hit at the pride parade on Sunday. The participants of the parade showed off catchy slogans written on them. Seen here is a supporter wearing Gandhi cap bearing the slogan ‘Haan hoon toh?’

ere’s a chance for young minds to reflect on societal issues, in a creative way. With six different and popular plays being staged in five days, the festival will deal with issues related to youth and aims at empowering them through the medium of art. Called the Pratibimb Natya Utsav 2011, the fest will see plays by known directors such as Rajesh Babbar, Suresh Bhardwaj, Kaviraj Laique, and others. The festival will be opened with the play Mujhe Amrita Chahiye, by Babbar. “It is the story of a shy and simple girl who gains confidence through theatre, proving herself a valuable component of the society,” says Babbar. The festival will also showcase the Hindi adaptation of the Russian play, Old Word, titled Hum Dono, and brings out the chemistry between a patient and doctor. The other plays that will be staged include Phandi, Khoo Milayi Jodi and Meeta Ki Kahani. The festival will be concluded with by JP Singh’s Urgent Meeting.
