he lanes of Old Delhi are well known, but not many know about some of the galis in Connaught Place. The bylane behind Scindia House, popularly known as Scindia Lane, is a hotspot with office goers and students. It offers many eating options at low prices. We take you on a walk through this gali, and bring to you its treasures.

Eatingin theGali As you enter the gali, the aroma from the eateries will greet you. Anand Dhaba is one of the most popular eateries in the area. Popular for their chicken biryani (R120) and keema kaleji (R120), the dhaba also provides delivery to various offices in the area. As you move ahead, you will come across the Bhogal Chat Bhandar, which is literally hidden in a corner. But, you can find directions to this eatery by a board pinned to a tree. The shop has been serving chhole bhature (R35) and chhole chawal (R40) for more than 50 years now and is popular for its large servings. “We don’t compensate on quality or quantity,” says Sunil Bhogal, owner of the shop. The most popular item sold in this gali is the cocktail samosas, popularly called samosi. A plate of 4 costs R5 and is served with chutney.

Catchthetravelbug This lane houses most of the travel agencies in Connaught Place. Their boards can be seen all around the place, with some hanging on trees, while others on walls. These travel agencies are very popular with backpackers and foreign tourists. While most of them claim to be recognised by the Government of
India, it is advised to check their credentials before booking through them. Just around the same area as these agencies, you can spot the board of a guest house. This is the Ringo Guest House, which remains deserted most of the times. The lane has a number of currency exchangers as well.
Thereis moretoit While eateries are abundant in this gali, there is more to Scindia House lane. When you enter the gali from the side of Kasturba Gandhi Marg, you’ll find a vendor just at the start. He sells clothes like track pants, t-shirts, and shirts at a starting range of R75. You can also spot a bookseller nearby who sells mostly hindi novels. After all that walking, you can quench your thirst at the Shanti Devi Fruit Juice shop. There is also a key maker specializing in all kinds of keys, even car keys. There are many car workshops here as well.

Get down at the Rajiv Chowk Metro station on the blue line. Go to Janpath flea market (where they sell clothes and junk jewellery) and cross the road from there. This lane lies just opposite the flea market

Dear Diary,
On Saturday, Delhi became such a pleasant city. I forgot all my pains and worries in this lovely weather. Delhi had never looked so beautiful to me. I went to Lal Quila (Red Fort). I have always lived in this city, but I had never visited this majestic monument. It was just glorious and that day, the weather made it look even more beautiful. Apart from some creepy people roaming around over there, it was such a delight to go through the history of this place. After that, I went to Chandni Chowk and I had so much to eat. My favourite was the Jalebi at Old and famous. - Misha
The other day, I was travelling in the ladies compartment of Delhi Metro. I saw a family of eight, which had small children and three women. The children were hanging on to the bars and trying to press the emergency buttons. It was terrible the way they behaved. This is not the first time I have seen this happen. I have seen women sitting on the floor of the train when clearly it is not allowed. I would want to request Delhiites to please travel properly in the Metro. After all, it is such a help to people in commuting and spoiling it just does not make any sense. - Diksha
