elhi University has to be the most happening place in the city this time round. With the admission season just round the corner, this is where you get to spot latest fashion trends. For those not sure about what works well at the Delhi University, here’s the HT City guide to DU dressing. ■ The fact that you are kicked about throwing away your school canvas shoes, does not mean that you go over the top and make your way to college in those strappy stilettoes. Delhi University swears by floaters and colourful flipflops for comfort and style, that can be combined with ethnic as well as modern wear. Khan Market, Janpath have shops that stock all kinds of trendy flip-flops. For floaters, you can check out popular sports brands. ■

Satin and blingy salwar

suits are more for wedding festivities and not the Delhi University. Cotton kurtas with patialas, jeans or even churidars are what one must wear if you really want to go the traditional way. Fab India, Cotton World, People Tree, Khadi are some of the places to buy these kurtas from. ■ Big is the word while choosing a bag for college. Big jholas, trendy tote bags are perfect for college. It should be big enough to carry all your stuff from books to makeup. PS: Your cool knapsacks that you used in school can also be used at times. Avoid carrying small bags that can only carry your make up and no books. Janpath flea market is the jhola Mecca of Delhi University.

Sport silver and junk jewellery. It’s time to say goodbye to little gold hoops that could be worn to school. In fact, avoid wearing gold jewellery when going to college. It works well for style and also safety.

Blame it all on Delhi’s sporting spirit. Some play love games while others play cricket amidst the ruins. Spotted in Hauz Khas Village. Only in Delhi!

DIARY Dear diary, I am about to join college and for that I have been roaming around the city filling up forms, making inquiries and shopping. So many mysteries abound in Delhi that I am still exploring these and getting amazed every day. Last week, a friend took me to Paharganj. I was amazed by the exhuberant market. From colourful clothes and junk jewellery to restaurants serving food from across the world, this market had it all. And the best part of this visit was the accent in which the

shopkeepers talked — as if they had spent their entire lives in a foreign land. Even the number of foreigners was more than Indians in this market. I had never experienced any thing of this sort. Coming out of school is so much fun that I am still reeling under it. with some expected lines. But we were taken aback when he requested us to buy his ‘paintings’. He explained to us the content of each of his work and even showed us his name painted behind them. Completely taken aback by his story and so not believing it, we asked him to write down his name once again. And he did, indicating clearly how keen he was to read, write and draw; to observe and to feel; to create. His paintings, surely didn’t lie!

For a moment I could feel the loud silence of his pain, of his sorrows, of his responsibilities, of his hunger... He wanted to do something, but couldn’t. Was the school so far? So out of the reach of this child who clearly wants to learn? Who is to be blamed? The government? The society? His parents? Or he himself? Sorry, but the finger points to YOU and ME! Eeha Jee
