College is a big decision. There are thousands of schools. Every one has a million reasons why you should go there & not somewhere else. We have a million reasons too, but it all comes down to one word: And. As you know, a conjunction connects two thoughts together. At Georgia College, we connect what you’ve already accomplished & build on it. We’re Georgia’s designated public liberal arts university, which means you’ll be well-rounded in your studies and also prepared for the future. Here are some of the connections you’ll experience at Georgia College:

For more connections go to www.gcsu.edu/and.

What makes Georgia College Distinct? What makes it stand out? Liberal Arts – Liberal Arts is artis liberales in Latin. It means education and training for a free people. At Georgia College, liberal arts is about connecting your education with something more – a well-informed experience at college, close interaction with professors and fellow students, community service, and ultimately to a successful career, one that gives you the vibrancy and flexibility to be a leader in your chosen field.

Academic Experience – Professors know you personally. They collaborate with you on class and community projects. The result is a unique experience, one that enhances learning by encouraging mentorship.

Learning Beyond the Classroom –Your education is larger than the classroom. At Georgia College, learning experiences include internships, fieldwork, undergraduate research, creative projects, community service, study abroad and much more.

Academic Excellence – Some of the best students with the highest GPAs and SAT scores choose Georgia College because they want their college experience to connect a rigorous learning environment with a community that knows them, cares about their success and helps them find a great job or a graduate program after they complete their classes.

Internships – We have the networks. Georgia College built the Georgia Education Mentorship program that pairs students with leading CEOs around the state. Around the country, students intern in a diversity of fields that range from biology to theatre. Within the state, Georgia College partners with healthcare and education professionals, business organizations and private industry to provide students with the best experiences while they’re still in school.

Residential Community – More than 40 percent of undergraduate students live on campus. That means you make lasting friendships and experience campus life in a profound way. You may want to join a living learning community that provides close collaboration with other students that have common interests like fitness, internationalism, leadership and fine arts, to name a few.

Affordability – Whether you’re in Georgia or from another state or country, Georgia College is an affordable option. Many Georgia students take advantage of the HOPE Scholarship. For students living outside the state, tuition is lower than many of the comparable public or private university options.

Historic neighborhood – More than a 100 years ago, Milledgeville served as the capitol of Georgia, so there’s a lot of history on every corner. There are stories and legends about who passed through Milledgeville. And the old downtown main street is right off of campus. It’s now revived with restaurants, retail shops, a coffee shop and an ice cream and candy store.

When you create something good people notice. That’s why Georgia College is consistently named as one of the best universities in the south by U.S. News & World Report.* It gets better. Kiplinger, a leading finance magazine, called us one of the best values in higher education in the nation, & The Princeton Review named us as a “Best Southeastern College.” In addition, Intel recognized us as one of the top 50 wireless campuses in the U.S., & we’re the only public institution named as a “College of Distinction” in Georgia. * 2007 ranking—Master’s (South)

College is about education. But how that’s done matters. Our professors take a personal interest in how you learn & they work with you to make sure you have both the knowledge & experience to succeed. Class sizes are small for that very reason—because class discussions, presentations & asking questions are important. Lectures, films, iPod videos, plays, exhibitions, concerts, & conferences all feed into your education here. And the best part is that you’ll have plenty of opportunity to participate & excel—& to find out what you really enjoy doing.

Milledgeville is never quiet. Caught between the bustle of Macon & the vibe of Athens, Milledgeville is about community, music, restaurants & local dives. Step off front campus & onto the classic downtown strip with local hangouts that mark Milledgeville as its own place. No worries about major food & retail shops. They are just a few minutes away. Getting here? No problem. We are served by airports in Macon & Atlanta. And Interstates 75, 20, & 16 are not far away.

On campus, activities make the difference. Intramural sports, concerts, plays, art exhibits, national speakers & just about everything in between. Going Greek? They’re all here too. And athletics? Georgia College is among the best in its league. Most students live on campus. That means you’ll know more people & be close… but not too close. You’re coming to college to get some independence & that’s good. We add to your independence & give a variety of housing options, meal plans, & academic opportunities. And our residence halls and apartments are all new. That means you can spend your time concentrating on your class work & making friends, not worrying about where you’re living.
