esde la Alcaldía de la E.L.A. de Zahara de los Atunes nos felicitamos por contar con el Gran Premio Atlanterra por sexto año consecutivo, coincidiendo con nuestra VIII Ruta del Retinto. Son seis años ya disfrutando de un evento que ha dotado a nuestro pueblo de otro atractivo más, de los muchos que ya tiene. Cultura, creatividad, turismo, gastronomía, arte y deporte se reúnen en nuestro pueblo durante estos días. Zahara trata de reinventarse y mejorar año tras año. En esta ocasión, con carreras de caballos profesionales inscritas en el circuito nacional de carreras de caballos oficiales de España. Tan sólo cuatro municipios en toda la geografía nacional cuentan con este tipo de evento deportivo, espectacular y exclusivo a la vez. Laredo y Loredo en Cantabria, Sanlúcar de Barrameda y Zahara en Cádiz, Ponemos a Zahara en el panorama ecuestre nacional e internacional. It is six years already enjoying an event that has given our people one more attraction, of the many they already have. Culture, creativity, tourism, gastronomy, art and sport meet in our town during these days. Zahara tries to reinvent and improve year after year. On this occasion with the performing of professional horse races registered in the national circuit of official horse racing in Spain. Only four municipalities throughout the national geography have this type of sporting event, spectacular and exclusive at the same time: Laredo and Loredo in Cantabria, Sanlúcar de Barrameda and Zahara in Cádiz. In this way, we put Zahara in the national and international equestrian scene. Las primeras carreras oficiales que se celebran en nuestra playa, de las que sólo hay cuatro en todo el territorio nacional, e inscritas en el circuito de carreras de caballos de España. Disfruten también de las dos carreras populares y del Gran Premio popular, la gincana y las carreras de cintas. Siempre, gracias al pueblo, que lo ha acogido desde un primer momento como algo propio, y al apoyo y compromiso de los comerciantes y de las empresas que lo hacen posible. Prohibida la inscripción a menores de 18 años. Es obligatorio que los jinetes usen casco de protección. Las carreras serán del tipo de “montura inglesa” Se establece un número máximo de cinco caballos por carrera. Prohibido participar tras haber consumido bebidas alcohólicas. Los participantes deberán aportar en el momento de la inscripción tanto la guía como el seguro de responsabilidad civil del caballo. 7. Cada jockey debe de estar asegurado, o bien firmar un consentimiento de que compite en la prueba bajo su propia responsabilidad.
• Rogamos respeten siempre las indicaciones de la Guardia Civil, Asistencia Sanitaria y Organización para su seguridad. • Rogamos respeten el espacio reservado para la salida y entrada de caballos a la playa, estará bien señalizado. • La zona post - meta será la zona de frenado y de vuelta y estará delimitada con vallas hasta unos 200 m. Rogamos respeten el espacio.
8. El horario de las pruebas puede verse alterado por las codiciones meteorológicas o estado de la marea. 9. En caso de supresión de la prueba por causas mayores, no se repetirá ni los inscritos podrán reclamar importe alguno sobre premios o gastos incurridos en el evento. 10. Un jurado, formado por miembros de la organización, de ACOZA y de Atlanterra S.A. establecerá el orden de llegada, siendo el fallo inapelable. 11. En el caso de empate técnico, el premio será dividido a partes iguales entre los ganadores. 12. El importe del premio será satisfecho en un plazo máximo de 45 días posteriores a la finalización de las carreras.
• Se ruega no mezclarse entre los corredores y participantes. Sugerimos que las mascotas vayan atadas. • Los participantes calentarán desde la línea de salida, en el Cachón, hacia Barbate. Rogamos respeten el espacio. • No se puede galopar ni trotar en el recorrido (desde el Cachón al Vapor). Han de ir al paso.

ue en 2014, durante la tercera edición del Gran Premio Atlanterra. Mientras completábamos la inscripción de los participantes en las carreras populares, aparecieron. Nos sorprendió la presencia de dos siluetas muy particulares. Nos impresionó su porte, la altura. Las hechuras. Dimos por supuesto que eran caballos profesionales. Los jockeys, sonrientes y muy educados, perfectamente equipados, solicitaron la parti-
cipación en una de nuestras carreras populares. Nuestro equipo de jueces, después de un momento de deliberación, y como no podía ser de otra manera decidió que lo conveniente había de ser dedicar una carrera especial para esos dos participantes. Así fue. Desde entonces se generó el germen, brotó la intención de hacer nuestras carreras más grandes. Ese día, esa visita resultó ser el detonante de lo que hoy podemos disfrutar en nuestra playa.
Carreras de caballos oficiales, inscritas en el circuito de las carreras de caballos de España, y en concreto una de las únicas cuatro carreras oficiales de caballos en la playa que se celebran en España. Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Cádiz. Laredo y Loredo, en Cantabria. Y ahora en el impresionante pista que se convierte la playa de Zahara de los Atunes. Probablemente, el hipódromo más bonito del mundo.

t was in 2014, during the third edition of the Atlanterra Grand Prix, while completing the inscription of the participants in the popular races, when they appeared. We were surprised by the presence of two very particular silhouettes. We were impressed by its size, its height, its shape. We assumed they were ´professional horses´. The riders, smiling and very educated, perfectly equipped, asked for the participation in one of our popular races. Our team of judges, after a moment of deliberation, and since it

could not be otherwise, decided that it was more convenient to organize a special race for those two participants. In this way and since then, it was generated the ´seed´, the intention arose to make our horse races bigger. That day, that visit, proved to be the trigger for what we can enjoy today on our beach. Official horse races, registered in the circuit of the horse races of Spain, and in particular, one of the only four official horse races in the beach that are celebrated in Spain. ´Sanlúcar de Barrameda´ in ´Cádiz´, ´Laredo´ and
´Loredo´ in Cantabria, and now in the impressive racecourse in which our beach ‘Zahara de los Atunes’ is transformed, probably the most beautiful in the world. sta cita no es una quimera, es una realidad en el actual Centro Militar de Cría Caballar de Jerez de la Frontera, el cual es la integración de la Yeguada Militar y el Depósito de Sementales El Servicio de Cría Caballar esta considerada desde el siglo XIV una de las grandes riquezas del Estado Español. Los inicios podemos situarlos con los Reyes Católicos, los cuales crearon la Yeguada Real, sufriendo en el transcurso del tiempo numerosos altibajos debido a su larga trayectoria. Felipe II construye la Caballeriza Real en base a las Caballerizas del Rey Almanzor de Córdoba. Felipe IV crea la Real Junta de Caballería en activo hasta final de la Guerra de Sucesión, desapareciendo más tarde. Felipe V logra reorganizarlo dando lugar a la creación de la 1ª Remonta del Ejercito, de inspiración castrense. Fernando VI incluye las Paradas Caballares y Mulares. Carlos IV incorpora La Escuela Veterinaria y crea la Junta Suprema de Caballería del Reino presidida por Luis de Godoy. En 1.812 Las Cortes de Cádiz suprime la tutela del Estado para otorgársela a particulares, lo que condujo a un total fracaso teniendo que volver de nuevo a gestión estatal.
Desde ese momento se producen decisivos cambios y creaciones de diferentes departamentos,Yeguada Militar de Córdoba, Reconstrucción del Caballo Pura Raza Española, Servicio de Remonta, Creación del Registro de Matricula, Junta de la Cría Caballar de Reino y en 2007 el Real Decreto sobre la Selección y Reproducción de ganado equino de Razas Puras dependiente del Ministerio de Agricultura. En la actualidad El Centro Militar de Cría Caballar de Jerez esta ubicado en : Finca Garrapilos reservada a los sementales de las diferentes Puras Razas: Española, Inglesa, Árabe, Anglo Árabe e Hispano Árabe. Y el cortijo de Vicos donde se encuentran las yeguas, tiene como objetivo obtener mejor calidad y selección de reproducción en machos y hembras atendiendo a genealogía y morfología. Muestra del logro de estos objetivos son: el Diploma Olímpico en Atlanta conseguido por el caballo Evento y la medalla de plata por equipos en Doma Clásica en las Olimpiadas de Atenas obtenida por el caballo Oleaje.n

his quote is not a chimera, is the reality in the Military Center of Equine Breeding located in Jerez de la Frontera. Here we can find the integration of the Military herd of horses and the stud’s warehouse. The Equine Breeding Service is considered one of the greatest riches of the Spanish State since the XIV century. We can set the beginnings of the equine breeding with the Reyes Catòlicos, who created the Royal Herd of horses, which suffered many ups and downs over time due to their long trajectory. Felipe II of Spain built the Royal Stable based on the stables of the King Almanzor of Córdoba. Felipe IV of Spain created the Royal Calvary, which was active until the end of the War of the Spanish Succession and disappeared later. Felipe V of Spain managed to reorganize it and created the 1º Army Remount, inspired in the Cretans. Fernando VI of Spain included the Equine and Mule breeding places. Carlos IV of Spain incorporated the Veterinary School and created the Supreme Board of Cavalry of the Kingdom directed by Luis de Godoy.
In 1812, the Cadiz Cortes abolished the tutelage of the State in order to award it to private individuals, what lead to a total failure so the state management started again.Since then, decisive changes have been made and different departments have been created such as the Military Herd of horses in Córdoba, the reconstruction of the Purebred Spanish Horse, the Remount Service, the creation of the register of enrollment, the Reino Equine breeding and in 2007 the Royal Decree about the selection and reproduction of the Purebred equine herd. Nowadays, the Military Center of Equine Breeding of Jerez de la Frontera is located in Finca Garrapilos, reserved for the different Purebred studs: Spanish, English, Arabish, Anglo-Arabish and Spanish-Arabish. El cortijo de Vicos, where the mares are found, has the aim of obtaining the best quality and selection of reproduction in males and females according to the genealogy and morphology. Indications of the achievements are the Olympic diploma in Atlanta achieved by the horse Evento and the silver medal by teams in dressage in the Athens Olympics games, which was won by the horse Oleaje.n

CON EL VIENTO EN LA SANGRE
No se puede atrapar el viento. Es libre. Viaja a su antojo. No se puede detener, no se puede ver, siempre está allí. Nuestro Levante, nuestro Poniente, forman parte del paisaje modelando las olas del mar, las crines de un caballo, el dibujo de la arena en la playa, las hojas de los árboles o el movimiento de la nubes en el horizonte. Aunque no podemos verlo, sabemos que está. Aunque
no podamos tocarlo, se cuela cada mañana por los rincones. El viento es un sentimiento, no podemos controlarlo, no sabemos qué hacer con él. ueron Pilar y Román, vascos afincados en Zahara, quienes decidieron emprender esta aventura. Así nació la Venta “A los Cuatro Vientos”. Completa el cuadro de aventureros Paco Espinosa, cocinero formado en la escuela zahareña que tanta impronta ha creado. La llamaron Venta queriendo evocar el sentido de un lugar de encuentro en el camino, sencillo y con un espíritu muy familiar. Su objetivo fue facilitar un encuentro entre amigos y conseguir que los clientes disfruten de una comida que respeta las costumbres y la tradición del lugar, con una materia prima de calidad y una elaboración muy sencilla, en la que lo fundamental es conseguir el punto. La llamaron A los Cuatro Vientos buscando el sentido de un lugar abierto y despejado. Paco y un equipo de gente muy joven, todos ellos del lugar, ponen los aires del Sur. Pilar y Román aportan aires del Norte y la tierra se ocupa del Levante y del Poniente. Os esperan abiertos a los cuatro vientos dónde van a comer sano y natural sople el viento que sople.n

ilar and Roman, two Basques settled in Zahara decided to undertake this adventure. In that way, Venta “A los Cuatro Vientos” (To the four winds inn) was born. Paco Espinosa completes the adventurers group, a chef formed in Zahara’s school that so much impression has created. They called it “inn” since they wanted to evoke the sense of a place for meeting on the road, simple and with a very familiar spirit. Their purpose was to provide a friends’ encounter and to manage that clients enjoy a meal that respects the customs and tradition of the place, with a raw material of quality and a very plain elaboration, in which it is essential to achieve the point. They named it “A los Cuatro Vientos” looking for the sense of an open and clear place. Paco and a team of very young people, all them from the area, put the air of the South. Pilar and Roman contribute with the air of the North and the land is in charge of the East and West. They wait for you, open to the four winds, where you are going to eat healthy and naturally, blow the wind that blows.n

You can not catch the wind. It is free. Goes where it pleases. You can not stop it, you can not see it, it’s always there. Our Levante (offshore), our Poniente (onshore), is part of the landscape, shaping the ocean waves, the mane of a horse, the drawing on the sand, the leaves of the trees or the movement of the clouds on the horizon. Although we can not see it, we know this. Although we can not touch it, it goes round every corner. The wind is a feeling we can not control, we do not know what to do with
it. We enjoy it, feel it, play in it, let it go, ignore it. These images by Carlos Yebra, portray the games of a Guirola stud horse on the beach. Trafalgar lighthouse and La Brena wood in the background. Strength and intensity. The feeling of freedom that is experienced in Zahara in winter, next to that invisible element which is an indivisible part of the landscape and the hearts of zahareĂąos and zaharahuis. Posteriormente se incorporan al vino para que la combinación repose, adquiera consistencia y los matices se integren. Solo así se consigue la elegante y sorprendente personalidad de estos Vermuts de Jerez. VERMUT ROJO LUSTAU Elaborado a partir de un Amontillado, seco y con carácter; y un Pedro Ximénez, dulce y sedoso. Los aromas dulces de fruta madura se entrelazan con notas cítricas y herbáceas, sobre un fondo de madera ahumada. Aterciopelado, sabroso y equilibrado. De final avellanado y ligeramente amargo. VERMUT BLANCO LUSTAU Fino y Moscatel son la base para conseguir un Vermut blanco sorprendente y cargado de matices. Floral, cítrico y herbáceo, con notas almendradas y un sutil fondo mineral. LUSTAU RED VERMOUTH Made from an ´Amontillado´, dry and with character; and a ´Pedro Ximénez´, sweet and silky. Uno de las experiencias más especiales que podemos vivir en Zahara de los Atunes son sus espectaculares paseos a caballo por la playa y por los parajes naturales que la rodean. Cuando el sol se pone, la orilla se convierte en un espejo sobre el que se refleja un cielo de mil colores, con una diversidad cromática digna de la paleta del mejor pintor impresionista, que varía día a día en función de la estación del año y del clima. O de las mareas,
incluso, por supuesto. En invierno, la luz del sol juega entre las nubes con unos tonos rojos y morados. En verano es el amarillo y el naranja quienes adornan el cielo. La primavera y el otoño se adueñan de los azules, los violetas y los rosas, mientras la espuma de las olas, blanca siempre, salpica el rostro de los jinetes, a veces sutilmente, y en otras ocasiones con más intensidad, dependiendo de la velocidad del paseo y del viento reinante.

Mientras disfrutamos de nuestra experiencia ecuestre, contemplaremos, en el horizonte, el acantilado de La Breña si nos dirigimos hacia Barbate, o el Cabo de Plata, el bunquer y Atlanterra, si retornamos hacia las cuadras dirección Bolonia. towards ´Barbate´, or ´Cabo de Plata´, ´El Bunquer´ and ´Atlanterra´ if we return towards the stables in the direction of Bolonia. On one side we find the Atlantic Ocean, the ´Almadraba’ and the silhouette of Africa, while on the other side we can see the ‘Sierra del Retín’, which watches over us during the journey. At any time of the year, the locals enjoy the beach by walking along this. The children play and bathe in their crystalline waters, while the fishermen try their fishing gear, and set sail with their small boats, which rest every night on the sand to undertake their daily work. With our retina full of iconic moments, we only have to get off the horse and enjoy the excellent gastronomic diversity that is offered to us in the numerous restaurants of the village and later enjoy a well deserved rest in any of its magnificent hotels. All this is a luxury within reach, at any time of the year. n
HORSE RIDING IN ZAHARA
One of the most special experiences that we can live in ´Zahara de los Atunes´ is the spectacular horseback riding along the beach and the natural sites that surround it. When the sun sets, the sea becomes a mirror in which a sky of a thousand colors is reflected, a sky that has a chromatic diversity worthy of the palette of the best Impressionist painter, that varies day by day according to the season, the weather and, of course, the tides. During the winter, the sunlight plays between the clouds with red and purple tones. In summer, yellow and orange decorates the sky. In the spring and autumn the blue, violet and pink tones take over the sky, while the foam of the waves, white always, splashes the faces of the riders, sometimes very subtly and sometimes with more intensity, depending on the speed of riding and the wind prevailing. As we enjoy our equestrian experience, we will contemplate, on the horizon, the cliff of ‘La Breña’ if we go

Navegar por el Estrecho de Gibraltar supone mucho más que un simple desplazamiento geográfico. Es dar un paso de un mundo a otro, de una religión a otra, de un continente a otro, de una cultura a otra. Entre el océano atlántico y el mar mediterráneo, el Estrecho es paso obligado, a diario y a través de los años, de cientos de miles de embarcaciones de mayor o menor tamaño. Previsión. Corriente. Derrota. Marea. Abordaje. Términos comunes que cuando nos referimos a navegar El Estrecho de
Gibraltar, siempre cobran un significado especial y diferente. Incrementamos a diario el ya de por si congestionado tráfico en la zona. El recién inaugurado puerto de Tánger ha supuesto un aumento significativo del número de barcos de mercancías; los acontecimientos bélicos en el norte de África, barcos de guerra, submarinos, maniobras... ; sin contar con las embarcaciones de pasajeros que conectan la península con las principales ciudades del norte de África, cruceros, y barcos de pesca tradicionales.

Navegar se convierte en un verdadero desafío cuando las especiales condiciones meteorológicas deciden hacer acto de presencia. Levante y Poniente. Temporal. Pleamar y bajamar, vertientes..., cada marino ha de enfrentarse a un interrogante cada vez que decide hacerse a la mar. Aguas tranquilas que se tornan virulentas, llenas de torbellinos por acción de las corrientes profundas o superficiales. Mediterráneo contra Atlántico, aguas frías contra cálidas. El hombre contra la mar. Fenicios, romanos, árabes, españoles contra ingleses, museo ar-

queológico submarino de primera magnitud. Escenario de batallas entre armadas, entre civilizaciones, desde los referente mitológicos hasta la actualidad. Por historia y por derecho nos encontramos ante uno de los lugares de navegación más señalados del mundo. El Cabo de Hornos, El paso del Norte, el Estrecho de Magallanes ... Lugares míticos y no por ello menos importantes que nuestro imponente vecino de apenas catorce kilómetros que, cada día, nos saluda desde la cercanía con su humor, a veces encantador y a veces iracundo. El Estrecho es y será siempre imprevisible.n

Crossing the Strait of Gibraltar is much more than a simple geographic manoever. It is to take a step from one world to another, from one religion to another, from one culture to another. Between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, the Strait is an obligatory step made daily, and over the centuries, by hundreds of thousands of vessels, small and large. The weather forecast..Currents. The ship’s course. Tides. Boarding. Common expressions that take on a special and different meaning when used in sailing the Strait of Gibraltar . Day by day the traffic is becoming more congested. The recently opened port in Tangiers has seen a notable increase in freight ships, war events in North Africa, warships, submarines, Men of War, Cruise ships and traditional fishing boats, without even taking into account the embarkations of passengers that connect the peninsula to the main cities in North Africa. Sailing becomes a real challenge when particular meteorological conditions
decide to make their presence felt. East and West winds. Storms. High and low tides. The height of the waves…..every sailor has to face his fears each time that he or she decides to set forth. Calm waters that turn into rough seas, full of whirlwinds caused by the deep or shallow currents. The Mediterranean against the Atlantic, cold waters against warm ones. Man against the Sea. Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, Spaniards against Englishmen,- an underwater archaeological museum, of the highest quality. The scene of battles between navies, between civilizations, from battles set in mythology to those that actually happened. Through history and law we find ourselves in one of the most notable navigation routes in the world. The Cape of Good Hope, El Paso del Norte, The Strait of Magellan….mythical places yet no less significant than our imposing neighbour, barely fourteen kilometres long that greets us daily from nearby, at times charming, at others irascible. The Strait is, and always will be, unpredictable.n

assion Atlanterra es un genuino ballet ecuestre creado a partir de coreografías de las reprises de la doma clásica y la doma vaquera, combinado con la música en directo, la danza y el flamenco. Gracias a la fusión de tres elementos como son: la música, la danza y los caballos, Manolo Carrasco nos transporta a la magia de Andalucía, su tierra. Este espectáculo no sólo recrea la pasión andaluza, sino que representa todo el colorido y alegría de la cultura del sur. Passión Andaluza es un

espectáculo familiar, donde disfrutarán todos los miembros de la familia al sentir el encanto que transmite la danza ecuestre. La diferencia principal frente a otros espectáculos es que la música es interpretada en directo. En el espectáculo Passión en Atlanterra se da la combinación de cuatro elementos como son: música, danza, jinetes y caballos. Las obras de Passión Andaluza han sido creadas por Manolo Carrasco. Manolo Carrasco, creador de la música de la real escuela del arte ecuestre
de Jerez, ha compuesto para Passión Andaluza una música capaz de realzar los diferentes movimientos que realizan los caballos. Manolo Carrasco como director, compositor y pianista del espectáculo ha tenido un duro trabajo para poder lograr una integridad de todos los componentes de Passión Andaluza, realizando con perfecta armonía y simetría ejercicios del arte ecuestre. Este espectáculo actualmente da la vuelta al mundo y este año recorre las ciudades mas importantes de España.n

What makes this performance unique is that the music is live.The musical pieces of Passion Andaluza have been composed by Manolo Carrasco who is also the creator of the music for the Real Escuela de Arte Ecuestre de Jerez.As director, composer and pianist of this performance he has done a magnificent job of fusing all of its components to create the perfect harmony and symmetry required to showcase the art of dressage during the show.This event is currently touring the world and this year visits the major cities of Spain.n
