Microsoft understands and acts on the importance of young peoples’ contribution in today’s rapidly evolving economy. Microsoft YouthSpark, is a company-wide initiative, empowering more than 300 million youth around the global with greater opportunities in education, employment and entrepreneurship with a specific focus on computing. CSR Asia’s Report on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 for Businesses highlights the business value of the SDGs, how to incorporate the SDGs into business strategy, and which stakeholders should be consulted. About Over the past decade, there has been a growing recognition of the youth's participation in
economic, social and political processes. Governments, international agencies, civil society and private sector organizations have realized that young people are powerful agents of change who, if supported and empowered, can drive the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The Asia-Pacific Youth Exchange (APYE) is a program that responds to the global need of meaningfully including the youth in SDG initiatives. By simulating policy formulation and SDG initiative execution, youth delegates are given a unique opportunity to learn and hone the skills necessary to participate in SDG activities. To achieve this, the APYE has three main components: (1) Leadership Development Training, (2) Local Immersion and (3) Asian Youth Conference. Â With the success of the first APYE that was held January of 2016, the Urban Youth Academy, Asian Development Bank, UN Habitat and several other partners come together once again to make the program even better. The second APYE will be held on August 2016 and 250 participants from the Asia-Pacific region are expected to come. OvervieW !
Over the course of 14 days, youth delegates will achieve several things at APYE 2016. These include (1) being more knowledgeable about the basis of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG); (2) understanding youth’s role in the achievement of SDGs; (3) understanding the challenges of implementing SDG projects; (4) expanding his/her network locally and internationally to enhance youth-led SDG initiatives; and (5) identifying opportunities for inclusion of young people in decision-making and implementation of the SDGs. Learning methods The youth delegates will engage in a five-part process that will enable them to be aware, understanding, and take action towards the SDGs in their communities. ! ! !
Leadership Development Training ! ! !
Leadership Development Training Development experts from partner organizations will share insights about the history, relevance, and implementation of SDGs. The knowledge, skills and the tools shared will prepare youth delegates to lead efforts that tackle the SDGs in their own communities. Local immersion In partnership with communities and NGOs, the immersion component exposes youth delegates to current SDG initiatives. This exposure is a unique chance to understand the inner workings SDG activities and the challenges that of often beset them. Learning circle Each youth delegate will be assigned a learning circle that aims to facilitate their growth throughout the duration of the program. Each group will be assigned a leader who will guide each group in discussions, community visits and planning.
Local Immersion in Community Issues Learning Circles Internship Fair Asian Youth Forum Internship fair To enhance the growth of each youth delegate beyond the APYE program, the internship fair will allow participants the opportunity to network and interview with government organizations, local and international NGOs, and private companies to gain practical work experience, especially with initiatives related to the SDGs. Asian Youth Forum The 4th annual Asian Youth Forum forum gathers youth and youth-oriented organizations in a platform to discuss opportunities and pressing issues that are related to the youth sector and its meaningful participation in the achievement of SDGs.
