Economic Actor B -Young Refugees-

The collage introduces my economic actor B, who are young refugees, between 14 and 18 years old. I believe these people should be considered more because they are already suffered enough by leaving their families, homes, and countries behind. Site Analysis -Environmental Factors-

The site is exposed to enough sunlight from the south and west directions, however, the east facade is quite shaded because of the adjacent building. The wind direction is coming from the south and south-west sides that could allow for good natural ventilation. The site sits next to the river that could provide attractive views and help in water management inside the building.

Atelier’s Position/ Manifesto

The site analysis has demonstrated that the Empire Theatre has Evidential, Historic, Aesthetic, and Communal values to the community in Burnley. Therefore, the main aim of this project is to Take

Back the Empire theatre, by creating architecture that encourages a multi-cultural community to develop What is called

“Cultural Competency” in order to solve the fragmented community issue in Burnley.

I believe that everyone has something to contribute to society, and by providing facilities that help young refugees and allow them to express themselves, integrate their prominent activities, and demonstrate their abilities and skills to the locals in Burnley will create a well-connected Position -Social/Environmental Considerations of the Site-

community.

Summary The main goal of my project is to create architecture that satisfies the inclusive design principles by placing people, especially young refugees, at the heart of the design process. This will be achieved by creating a space that takes back the attention to the Empire Theatre and develops a multi-cultural community to encourage living together peacefully with mutual respect. By taking into account diversity and differences, the project will create a place that can be enjoyed by everyone in Burnley’s community regardless of age, gender, ability, and ethnicity. Minimal changes to the existing fabric will be created to protect the identity of the Theatre by building with the heritage. Sustainable design strategies including, efficient energy and low carbon emissions are some of the main key drivers of the project.

Reflection

Developments for 3.2: - Developing the programme further to meet the users’ requirements and comfort. - Further exploration of the concept of building with the heritage. - Materiality and light and their effects in the building character, experience, and feelings for the users. - Further development in the landscape design strategy and how to integrate nature into the project. - How the concept of design for disassembly can be introduced in the construction strategy of the design.
