STAGE 1 NOTES

For Stage 1, we were assigned to show visual elements using three basic design principles (Direction, Emphasis, and Scale). I really wanted to create a composition which would allow anyone to understand what these principles meant bysimply looking at it.
I realized through this process that it wasn’t the graphics that were hard to create; but the ideas themselves, to actually plan and showcase these simple principles in a concise but elegant way required much more thinking than I had originally thought.
Through researching and gaining a thorough understanding for the elements I created very simple but well thought out sketches of the basic shapes showing the principles - this later became the final digital composition. . After receiving critic from fellow peers and made a few technical adjustments (such as using clipping mask) and thus Stage 1 was complete.

Stage 2, although more complex, was easier to create as I had already gained a pretty good understanding of the basic elements and principles. Stage 2 required for us to create a com-position of the basic shapes with a pairing of principles (e.g Direction and Scale). My goal for this stage was to be as unique as possible with each composition but also be as clear as possible with the combined elements. After creating my drawing, I realized that a lot of my drawings looked similar in composition. To avoid this as much as possible after critique I made notes for possible variations and changes I could make. This resulted in my final composition to look more complex and refined but also very clear in the principle it was displaying.

Exercise 2 consisted of creating a composition of 2 bt2 photographs that showed all the basic principles of design (and their combinations) using the shapes : Square, Triangle and Circle.
There was an incredible abundance of circles in the real world. I saw that circles were largely used in entertain ment or leisure, making them easier to spot. However finding them using a specific design principle (or Unlike graphics in which you have total combination) was harder because they control in the design, photographs require were usually in their most simple form. the design to already be created. It required a lot of searching to find elements I also realized that squares are what in the real world which showed a specific makes up most structures and design shape using a specific design principle or a in the real world, so it was no probcombination of principles. lem finding squares fitting to the right principle(s). To start, I decided to first make a visual guide that would help me identify elements The most difficult part of this exercise and principles when I would see them. I what to find triangles - because literally wanted to capture a photograph that clear- everything was a square ! I have to ly displayed the designated element and admit, for a few of the triangle principle. composition and changed the angles from squares to make them resemble triangles, they still managed to show the principle successfully therefore I included them
