Knowledge Hub : for lifelong learning

A learning and sharing environment at the heart of a densely populated urban city like Mumbai, for mixed income and age groups living in the neighborhood and largely the suburb where it is situated in.

Creating a prototype learning environment for lifelong holistic learning in cities ,such spaces that receive the maximum influx of people and have the maximum observable urban disparities at their fringes.

Guggenhiem Museum for Kochi

The floating museum in Kochi seamlessly integrates traditional architecture with wind, light, and waves. It features clustered buildings and strategic breaks for uninterrupted interaction with the environment. Two bridges connect sections: an aerial bridge for exhibitions and a water bridge for administration. The main exhibition block reflects the ocean sky, while transparent elements provide horizon views. South-facing eaves reduce heat gain, and an undulating roof echoes waves. Indirect light enters exhibition spaces with adjustable shutters. The design offers a captivating and immersive museum experience.

This space 1.5m to 3.2m acts as insulation against extreme temperatures, winds, and sound improving the building’s thermal efficiency for both high and low temperatures.

Each glass panel measures 1.5mx3m and has a unique shape and curvature.

In cold climates, the air buffer works as a barrier to heat loss. Sun-heated air contained in the cavity can heat spaces outside the glass, reducing the demand for indoor heating systems.

Maati Bani residence

The residence caters to two musician couples who valued Art and the use of recycled building elements sourced from different parts of India while embracing the charm of Ar. Bawa and Ar.Baker’s architectural aesthetics. The project incorporates recycling, drawing inspiration from Geoffrey Bawa and Laurie Baker’s geographically grounded and vernacular architectural styles. It repurposes old windows and doors from demolished houses, incorporating them strategically in a design that pays homage to traditional Indian craftsmanship and spatial planning.

Teamwork: After careful planning and multiple reiterations from clients, my team, and the consultants, we arrived at this design conclusion.

Swan song

This was designed as a proposal for the “Museum of Emotions” silent competition floated by the Bees Builder.

As per the brief, the museum was designed to understand the impact of architecture on emotions, which is reminiscent of a swan song. Just as a swan song is known for its powerful and poignant expression.

Competitions

01

The design utilizes its circular plan resembling a sundial with positive space on one side and negative on the other. The contrasting narrow spaces within the structure, combined with its desert surroundings devoid of distractions, create an environment that elicits a range of these emotions. Like a swan song, this architectural experience leaves a lasting impression on its users, evoking a mix of emotions that resonate long after the encounter.

Composed - With the team Professional work

The architecture induces fear and uncertainty as users descend a topsy-turvy ramp between sharp, shard-like boulders. Protruding from the floating ceiling, these boulders create a perilous downhill journey. The sliding ramp towards the tensile fabric intensifies the unsettling atmosphere, accentuated by the reverberating red light upon impact. This design effectively evokes negative emotions, leaving users in a state of unease and discomfort.

This space is crafted to evoke a serene journey of gentle ascend as if floating above while gliding one’s fingertips on calm water. Delicate, moving fabric leaves a mesmerizing trail, revealing ethereal streaks of angelic blue light on the facade. Users are drawn to reach the pinnacle, where cascading skylight beckons, granting a profound sense of blissful tranquility. This architectural marvel encapsulates captivating beauty, lightness, and serenity.

Competitions

The House: Interiors

Brief : The competition aimed to know the participants’ idea of the interior home design, in the context of any site that they select. It encourages participants to bring to life the basic functionality of the house, and explore their own notions of what a ‘home' is.

A home is a place that heals one of all the stresses. A space catering to all the requirements of mind, body, and soul. This space is designed to elevate one’s senses, it aims to bring a sense of calm and freshness into the lives of the people inhabiting it. Each space can be adapted for various activities throughout the day, The use of natural earthy tones in the house makes one feel more at peace, and the portal-like windows open up into the balcony garden, it makes the people sitting in the living room feel connected to the outside world at the same time.

- Ledge provided in front of the window gives a relaxing seat beside the window to calm down -A serene workspace that uses warm earthy tones to ground oneself and focus on the work in hand.

The open plan comprises of a sitting area, meditation space, and entertainment area. Being able to adjust the light quality brings out varied space qualities in a family room. The accent lights create the required ambiance.

R.Mohideen residence

This was envisioned as a magnificent 6 BHK home, meticulously designed to embody the essence of Middle Eastern aesthetics while embracing a modern and minimalist spirit. Inspired by the breathtaking color palette and textured landscapes of the Arabian desert, this space exudes serenity and tranquility.

Every aspect of the design revolves around the concept of creating an oasis of calmness and visual spaciousness. The architectural elements are thoughtfully infused with Arabian calligraphic motifs and patterns, adding a touch of cultural richness and depth to the environment.

With an emphasis on storytelling through form and materiality, each material and accessory within the space has been handpicked and curated to cater to the specific needs of the clients while perfectly complementing the overall aesthetics.

The result is a captivating and artistic masterpiece, where the interplay of light, shadows, and carefully selected materials creates a harmonious symphony of textures and visual delight. This home is not just a living space but an experience that transports inhabitants to a realm of timeless beauty and soulful inspiration.

MuseLab doccumentation

The objective was to create a series of drawings that vividly capture the ambiance of the office space, harmonizing the artistic pieces, lighting, colors, and furniture within.

The sections, plans, and axons work together to depict each element in its essence, fostering communication and infusing the space with its own magic and narrative.

The morning sun washed everything it touched with its luminosity, forcing the landscape to reflect back it’s true colours. The sight I woke up to in Ooty on a family road trip. It was immensely refreshing, calming and humbling at the same time. Feeling so insignificant in a wide expanse of space,it was easy to loose all the worries for a moment.
