Wentzville—Technology has changed nearly every aspect of people’s lives, especially how they obtain information and communicate with each other. The changes are particularly evident among teens and young adults, who have grown up in the digital age. To ensure they are communicating effectively with this digital generation, Wentzville’s Police and Parks departments have recently launched their own Facebook pages. The city of Wentzville has had a presence on Facebook since 2010, but by offering their own separate pages, the Police and Parks departments hope to offer a more focused look at who they are and what they do. Wentzville Police Chief Lisa Harrison said, “We are trying to reach the new generation of folks out there in the way they communicate. We want residents and visitors to trust and even ‘know’ the police, and we feel establishing a presence on Facebook is one way to achieve that goal.” Although the Police department’s page is only a few weeks old, it’s already filled with photos of department activities, such as the recent Rod Run and Special Olympics Torch Run. The page also shares information on things like the Police Explorer Program, ways
people can avoid becoming a crime victim, and how residents can join in on National Night Out this year on August 7. The Parks Facebook page offers pictures of Parks projects and events, along with short, to-the-point information blurbs. Facebook friends of the page can use it as an easy way to find event reminders, registration deadlines, and updates on weather conditions that might affect scheduled programs or facility operations. Facebook users can check out all the information these new pages offer by entering “Wentzville Parks & Recreation” or “Wentzville Missouri Police Department” in the “search for people, places and things” field on Facebook.

Ohio Man was Making Meth Inside Walmart Store, Police Said
An Ohio man was arrested Sunday for allegedly making methamphetamine inside a Walmart store in the town of Mentor. Mentor Police Lt. Ken Zbiegien told Fox 8 News that James Richardson, 37, was spotted by store security placing ingredients in his shopping cart that are commonly used in the production of meth, the report said.
According to Zbiegien, Richardson combined the ingredients in a salt shaker he had taken off a store shelve and began shaking the container. Police say Richardson was using a common method to make meth known as “shake-and-bake.” Police refer to the method as “one-pot” meth cooking. Richardson was arrested as he attempted to walk from the store. He was charged on counts of illegal manufacturing of methamphetamine and theft, Fox8.com reported. Zbiegien says Richardson has five previous felony drug convictions. He remains housed in the Lake County jail on a $75,000 bond.

School Bus Driver Charged With Driving Drunk On The Job WINDHAM, N.H. – A school bus driver was arrested Monday morning, charged with driving drunk on the job with children on her bus. Windham police say they received a call just before 7 a.m. that a school bus was moving erratically through town. A short time later, they received a second call that the bus was in the parking lot of the Windham Middle School. Police confronted the driver, 50-year-old Kimberly Hooley of Londonderry, and discovered she had also hit a mailbox with her bus and lost a side mirror. She was arrested and charged with driving drunk. None of the students were hurt, but some were shaken by the incident. They ranged in age from 11 to 13 years old. Windham Schools Superintendent Henry LaBranche told WBZ-TV that Hooley won’t be driving a school bus for the town anymore. “I dropped my daughter off here this morning,” says Mike Laliberte. “ There were three police cruisers here, which is very atypical. It’s a very safe school.” “It’s a little scary,” says mother Becky Kendzulek. “You drop your kids off in the morning and you expect them to get there safely on the school bus, and when you get the message, it does raise quite few alarms.” First Student officials, meanwhile, said Hooley is “suspended pending the outcome of both an internal and police investigation.” First Student says Hooley passed extensive background checks when she was hired about a year-and-a-half ago. A spokesperson says all drivers are subject to random drug and alcohol tests throughout the school year. “The safety and security of the students we transport is our top priority. Prior to hire, all First Student drivers must pass extensive federal, state and local background checks, which include a drug screen. First Student also conducts random drug and alcohol screenings throughout an employee’s tenure with the company,” the company said, in a statement. Hooley will be arraigned Nov.14th in a Salem District Court.

There is a Way to Outsmart your Auto Insurer — and Cut your Rates by as much as $45/Month.
That’s what many of our readers have done so far. Here’s exactly how you can drastically lower your rates as well... Have you seen any of the recent car insurance commercials? Specifically, the ones that claim that if you switch to them, they’ll save you an astonishing $500.00 or more – every year. Well, if they all claim to save you that much… are those savings really possible with every insurer? Absolutely not! Every insurer is different. They each give different savings depending on unique factors. For example, any insurer may give you a discount on the following: * If you haven’t been in a car accident this year * If you are over 25 years of age * If you drive less than 40 miles per day * If your car has air bags * Even if you haven’t had a DUI, many insurers give you a discount for something that simple. The fact is: auto insurers give different discounts depending on your situation. Now, how do you know exactly which insurer will give you the best rate and discounts you need? There’s one way to find them. It’s by comparing many of their rates quickly. That’s why our car insurance comparison has become so popular. You simply take around five minutes to tell the website about your driving history and then you’ll get free quotes from multiple insurers in your area. This way, you can pick the policy and rate that best fits you. In this case, those $500 or so savings may actually be possible. Enter the miles you drive, your zipcode, and if you’ve had a DUI in the last 3 years, to try it.

Parents Charged With Killing Daughter’s Pimp Acted Too Late A mom and dad are in police custody this week after allegedly killing the man pimping out their 17-year-old daughter after tracking him around Southern California. Want to hail Barry Gilton and Lupe Mercado as heroic parents? Not so fast. Whether they actually rid the streets of a pimp or not is still up in the air. Gilton and Mercado’s lawyer has indicated the parents will be pleading not guilty to all charges relating to the death of 22-year-old Calvin Sneed. And then there’s this nagging truth: 17-year-old girls do not just run away from home and become prostitutes overnight. The San Francisco area parents say that their daughter — one of their three kids — just disappeared on them awhile ago. After searching for her, they say they found her turning tricks, with Sneed, a gang member, as her pimp. They also say that they went to the authorities and got no help. I feel for them. I really do. But let’s get real. There was something going on in that home well before their daughter ran away. Happy teenage girls do not just up and disappear. And they certainly do not turn to prostitution. There are risk factors for that kind of behavior: and 9 times out of 10, they lead right back to dear old Mom and Dad. I’m not saying they drove her to it per se, but they certainly raised this kid. Even if Mercado and Gilton did not hunt down the man who they say was pimping out their daughter, then shoot at him twice, finally killing him on June 4, something stinks about this family and their story. Not convinced? How about this? Gilton has prior convictions for drug dealing and possession. Not exactly the upstanding citizen turned possible criminal just this once for the good of his child, huh? If the couple did what they’re accused of, they may have done it with the best of intentions. But they are far from innocent in all of this. Maybe if they’d parented a little better, they wouldn’t be in this mess ... ?

Top 4 Healthy Summer Skin Tips: Skin Care Changes Needed with Warm Weather
Across the northern hemisphere, summer is officially here. And as the temperatures start to rise, more and more of us will find ourselves outside. Watermelon Its name really says it all. With over 90 percent water by weight, watermelon is a true hydration hero, and so as the temperature outside starts to rise, watermelon will keep your body temperature down. Now, watermelon has had a hard life, as its sweetness has earned it an unfortunate reputation for being high in calories; fortunately, this reputation is entirely false. Watermelon not only contains water, it is over 90% water by weight. As a result, a cup of diced watermelon contains only 46 calories, making it the perfect beach-time treat. On top of this, watermelon is loaded with Vitamin A, as well as antioxidants beta-carotene and lycopene that will keep you healthy, and energized this season. Papayas This exotic fruit typically finds itself on summer fruit plates, as it’s cool and refreshing; however, papayas are more than just a sweat treat. Papayas are rich in papain, a protein-digesting enzyme, as well as various other compounds that fight bloating, and make you feel more comfortable in your summertime attire. On top of these compounds, papayas are also a top source of Vitamin C, potassium and folate, making them a nutritious delicacy all around.
Each season of the year will call for changes in your skin care routine. After all, as the weather and climate changes, it’s important to adapt your routine to keep your skin healthy and radiant. In the summer, the heat can really make an impact on the health of your skin. It can cause your skin to be too dry, be too oily and can even cause acne and rashes. Use these tips to learn how to keep your summer skin healthy and beautiful. 1. Use Sunscreen Everyday to Prevent Skin Damage & Premature Aging Without a doubt, the number one way to keep your skin healthy in the summer is by using sunscreen every day. Most people are well aware of the fact that overexposure to the sun can cause skin cancer. However, the skin can also burn and blister, which is extremely painful. Overexposure to the sun can also lead to early signs of aging and sun spots, which is something no woman wants to experience.
glasses of water a day can help your skin look soft and supple all season. Try to stay out of extreme heat and when you do, be sure to wear loose clothing to avoid getting overheated.
Here’s how… When choosing sunscreen, be sure to choose sunscreen with a high level of SPF (minimum of SPF 30 is best), so you’ll be fully protected. If you can’t stand the thought of your summer skin being pale this year, don’t fret. The newest bronzer and self tan products look more natural than ever before and are completely safe. Some of the most common products are those that gradually tan, such as daily self tanning lotions.
4. Prevent Sweat-Induced Summer Breakouts with the Right Products As you start spending more time in the warmer weather, your body will naturally start to sweat more. You may experience more acne on your face or on your body. You may also get a heat rash or a rash in areas where you wear tight clothing, such as your inner thighs.
2. Keep Your Skin & Body Well Hydrated When you’re exposed to excess heat, your skin will immediately feel the effects. You may start to experience dry skin patches. Many times these begin on your elbows and hands and can quickly spread to your face and other body parts. Here’s how… Not only should you moisturize regularly, but making sure you hydrate with at least eight
3. Protect Skin from Chlorine & Salt When at the Pool or Beach The summer season often leads to time at the pool or the beach. Chlorine and salt water can really wreak havoc on your skin. Here’s how… The best way to combat the effects of pool time is by showering before and after your swim. When you shower before, you’ll be filling your pores with non-chlorinated water, as well as your hair follicles. Thus, when you get into the pool or ocean, your skin and hair won’t soak up as much water. Then, by showering after your swim you’ll be able to wash off any residue.
Here’s how…. To protect yourself from these aggravations, invest in products made to prevent acne or skin irritations. Body washes with light amounts of acne medications are very effective for preventing acne in the summer months due to sweat. They are often available in lotion form, as a spray or in body wash form. In addition, be sure you shower after any outdoor activity such as playing sports, fishing, hiking, or other activities where you will be sweating more than usual.

For Our 55+ Readers Give the Gift of a Bright Future with U.S. Savings Bonds
They’re the same bonds you remember getting as a child, but with a digital twist. U.S. Savings Bonds are making a comeback, just in time for the graduation and wedding giftgiving season. “Since the January 2012 transition from paper to digital savings bonds, account openings on Treasury’s retail website, TreasuryDirect.gov, have increased 9 percent,” says Jerry Kelly, national director of the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Ready.Save.Grow. campaign. “In many cases, people are opening an account for themselves as well as their children to give relatives and friends a convenient way to give gifts.” Ready.Save.Grow., a Treasury educational effort to encourage more people to save for their future, provides information on how to open a TreasuryDirect account for you and your children. The campaign also offers these timely tips as you prepare for the upcoming season of graduations, weddings and other gift-giving occasions: Tip 1: Invest in savings bonds for your child’s future by opening a free TreasuryDirect account. For as little as $25, you can buy a safe and affordable savings bond – a guaranteed investment – for your child. To enable your child to receive savings bond gifts, open a child’s account within your own Treasury Direct account. Tip 2: If family or friends offer to help with your child’s future education, think savings bonds. When you think about saving for your children’s education, remember that savings bonds offer many advantages, such as: * Bonds earn interest for up to 30 years.
When you think about saving for your children’s education, remember that savings bonds offer many advantages, such as: * Bonds earn interest for up to 30 years. * The interest earned is exempt from state and local income taxes. * The interest earned by eligible owners may also be exempt from federal income tax if bond proceeds are used to pay for qualified education expenses. See the TreasuryDirect website for more information on this feature. Tip 3: Set an example by giving savings bonds to the children of family members or friends. Start a trend and invest in the future of the kids you know – buy savings bonds in their names. Your family and friends will thank you. To gift a savings bond, you’ll need to log in to your TreasuryDirect account to make the transaction. It’s important to know the recipient’s full name and Social Security number ahead of time so you can complete the gifting process in a few simple steps. Also, be sure to print out a themed gift certificate to include in your card or present.

Tip 4: Encourage your adult son or daughter to list savings bonds on their wedding gift registry. Even though your son or daughter may be eager to receive new dishes, silverware or linens, a savings bond will be the gift that keeps on giving in the future. When the savings bonds mature, the couple will welcome additional funds for a major purchase, their children’s education expenses or as a supplement to their retirement savings.
Tip 5: Use the gift of a savings bond to teach your child about the importance of saving and financial planning. Receiving a savings bond for the first time is a great way for your children to learn how to take control of their financial future. Use the gift of a savings bond in your child’s name as a way to educate him or her on the value of money and help sharpen financial planning skills.

Rams Players Visit Timberland Football Team
(June 18, 2012) Wentzville, MO… St. Louis Rams linebackers Josh Hull and James Laurinaitis visited with the Timberland High School football team today to talk to the players and answer questions about life in the NFL. Neither player was very heavily recruited out of high school, so they both shared a message of goal-oriented hard work. "Believe it or not, I’m not too far removed from high school, I graduated in 2005, so I know what they’re going through," said Laurinaitis. "I still remember my senior year like it was yesterday, hard work pays off, but you have to keep your nose clean and avoid distractions, especially if you want the chance to play college football." Josh Hull invited his teammate to come along to talk with the Wolves players. "I duck hunt with my friend Kurt Daniels, and his family took me under their wing when I first came to St. Louis, his son plays on the team so I’m happy to help out. I think one of the most important things in high school is to have fun when you’re playing
football, you have to compete, but at the end of the day it has to be fun." The experience was certainly fun for the players, who had their questions answered on topics ranging from nutrition to time management. They were also reminded that the alarmclock snooze button is the enemy when it comes to both sports and school. Hull was an Academic All- American at Penn State where he majored in engineering, and Laurinaitis graduated from Ohio State with a degree in communications. "I know all of the distractions, and I know it’s probably even worse now, so I just want to encourage them to do the right thing," said Laurinaitis, who added that his father (a professional wrestler) did a good job of keeping him in line when he was in high school. "For the kids who won’t play in college, l also wanted to stress the importance of a good education, because at some point football will end for all of us, and you need that degree!"

Ward 3 residents have until 5 p.m. July 5 to apply for appointment to the seat. Applications then will be sent to the Board of Aldermen and Mayor Nick Guccione for consideration. The mayor then is required to call a special meeting to ask the board to approve his appointment to fill the vacancy. The appointed alderman would serve until the April 2013 election. The board on June 13 approved a bill allowing residents to apply when city elective offices become vacant. The bill was a product of an ongoing struggle between the current five board members and Guccione over how to fill the vacancy. Guccione held the seat before winning the April 3 mayoral election. If the board rejects the mayor’s selection, the seat could remain vacant until the April 2013 election. Officials say a special election to fill the vacancy would be too expensive.
