ART VOYAGERS | For Children Grades K–3 Become a ZMA Art Voyager, and begin your art adventure! Each month children in grades kindergarten through third will travel through history or explore the globe to learn about a different culture or a new art form. Create an exciting project, and receive a stamp in your Art Voyagers passport. Each stamp gets you one step closer to a secret treasure. Saturdays, February 11, March 11, April 8, 10:30–11:30 am, at the ZMA. $5 per session for members, $7 not-yet-members. All materials and a painting apron provided. Recommended for grades K–3. Registration required. America, 1960s FEB 11 Take a trip back in time to America during the 1960s, and explore the world of Pop Art. Have fun using everyday objects to create bright, bold marker drawings.

MAR 11 Egypt of the Pharaohs Travel to ancient Egypt, and learn how to create the classic Egyptian figure using the canon of proportions. Imagine yourself as King Tutankhamun or Cleopatra, and use tempera paint to make your own large scale self-portrait in the style of the ancient Egyptians. APR 8 Côte d'Ivoire Voyage to Africa’s Ivory Coast, and discover the history of mask making. Learn the stories behind the bold, abstract designs of the different styles and materials used to create traditional West African masks. Use what you learn to carve your own plaster mask and finish it off with paint and found objects.

Become an apprentice to masters like Leonardo da Vinci or Mary Cassatt. Each month children in grades four through six will investigate the art, style, and technique used by a different master artist. For each class, participants will earn apprentice rewards to add to their very own artist palette. Fill the palette with colorful rewards to receive unique art supplies and discounts on future programs. At the ZMA. $5 per session for members, $7 not-yet-members. All materials and a painting apron provided. Recommended for grades 4–6. Registration required. FEB 18 M.C. Escher Study the artwork of master printmaker, M. C. Escher, and learn how to use one of his favorite methods, relief printing. Have fun creating multiple prints from your carved print block. Experiment with different paper and ink colors. MAR 18 Felipe Castañeda The human figure has been a favorite subject of sculptors since the beginning of art history. Become inspired by the work of Mexican sculptor Felipe Castañeda, learn about the ZMA’s work by the artist, and then create your own expressive mixed media figure sculpture. APR 15 Georgia O’Keefe Nothing says spring like flowers, and no one mastered the art of painting flowers like Georgia O’Keefe. Be inspired by O’Keefe’s beautiful floral paintings, and learn watercolor techniques to create your own close up flower paintings.

Z MA | Zanesville Teens Making Art

Join us for a unique teen art-making program that will help young adults strengthen valuable team-building and leadership skills. Participants of the ZTMA community will collaborate with artist mentors, develop social networks with other creative teens, make art individually for their portfolios, and create art collaboratively for community-wide projects. Each month, teens in grades seven through twelve will meet after school to organize, plan, create, and execute a joint artistic project. Thursdays, February 9, March 9, April 13, 4:30–6:30 pm, at the ZMA. Free for members, $15 for a yearly student museum membership for not-yet-members. Free student memberships are available. Contact Misty Johnson for more information. No experience required. Recommended for teens grades 7–12. Registration required by February 2.
