FREE FAMILY DAY AT THE ZMA | Happy Easter Enjoy an afternoon of experimenting with exciting, new art-making techniques to create festive projects to add to your sprong décor, including your very own hand-woven basket. Jumpst

| For Children 15 months–4 years

JumpstART your preschooler’s creativity at the ZMA every second Friday of each month. Expose your toddler to the exciting world of art. Each session is unique as you both experiment with new materials, discover art-making techniques, and explore hidden treasures in the ZMA’s galleries. Fridays, January 12, February 9, March 9, and April 13, 10:30–11:30 am, at the ZMA. Free for members and not-yet-members. Recommended for ages 15 months–4 years. Registration required. Please call the museum at (740) 452-0741 if, as a registered participant, you are unable to attend so that a wait-listed child has the opportunity to attend Jumpstart. Thank you! STAINED GLASS January 12 In this class, discover beautiful works of stained glass with your preschooler at the ZMA. Create your own stunning stained glass inspired sun catcher using common household materials.

February 9 CROSSING BORDERS Experience the power of collaboration with your preschooler as you explore the ZMA’s special exhibition, Columbus Crossing Borders Project. Work together with fellow JumpstART classmates to create an exciting collaborative masterpiece. PAPER FOLDING March 9 Discover how paper can be used to make sculptural artworks. Become inspired by Yasue Sakaoka’s Collage with Origami Paper and create your own exciting folded paper project. HORSEPLAY

ART VOYAGERS | For Children Grades K–3 Become a ZMA Art Voyager, and begin your art adventure! Each month children in grades kindergarten through third will travel through Voyagers passport. Each stamp gets you one step closer to a secret treasure. Saturdays, January 13, February 10, March 10, and April 14, 10:30–11:30 am, at the ZMA. $5 per session for members, $7 not-yet-members. All materials and a painting apron provided. Recommended for grades K–3. Registration required.

Travel back in time, and discover the splendor of Early Gothic French cathedrals and their remarkable stained glass windows. Use a combination of materials to create your own stained glass inspired mixed-media masterpiece.

Central Ohio

Discover the amazing diversity of techniques and styles artists use to portray a single subject in the ZMA’s special exhibition Columbus Crossing Borders Project. Work together with fellow Art Voyagers to create a one-of-a-kind collaborative art project that also celebrates individual perspectives.

Learn how artists use origami, the traditional art of Japanese paper folding, to create striking sculptural works of art, and then create your own origami relief sculpture.

China, Tang Dynasty

April 14

Travel back in time to the Tang Dynasty (618–906 CE) and discover how horses were depicted in artwork as symbols of leadership, freedom, and energy. Explore the ZMA galleries, become inspired by artists’ interpretations of horses from around the world, and learn step by step how to draw this popular animal.


CHILDREN & TEEN PROGRAMS

For each class, participants will earn apprentice rewards to add to their very own artist palette. Fill the palette with colorful rewards to receive unique art supplies and discounts on future programs. Saturdays, January 20, February 17, March 17, and April 21, 10:30–11:30 am, at the ZMA. $5 per session for members, $7 not-yet-members. All materials and a painting apron provided. Recommended for grades 4–6. Registration required.

January 20

Admire the ZMA's beautiful crescent stained glass window created right here in Zanesville by German-born Adolph Brown. Use a variety of colored paper to design and create your own vibrant stained glass window panel.

Discover how artists come together for a cause in the ZMA’s special exhibition Columbus Crossing Borders Project. Work individually and with a partner to share ideas and create a beautiful, collaborative treasure box necklace.

See the amazing and nontraditional ways artwork can be created with origami, the art of Japanese paper folding. Become inspired by Yasue Sakaoka’s Collage with Origami Paper and create your own origami collage.

Paul Bogatay

April 21

Become inspired by Paul Bogatay’s Horse. Explore the ZMA galleries and discover many ways horses have been depicted throughout art history, and then create your own wrapped wire horse sculpture.

Z MA | Zanesville Teens Making Art Join us for a unique teen art-making program that will help young adults strengthen valuable team-building and leadership skills. Participants of the ZTMA community will collaborate with artist mentors, develop social networks with other creative teens, make art individually for their portfolios, and create art collaboratively for community-wide projects. Each month, teens in grades seven through twelve will meet after school to organize, plan, create, and execute a joint artistic project. The next exciting project starts February 15. Thursdays, February 15, March 1, March 15, March 29, April 12, and April 26, 6:15–7:30 pm, at the ZMA. Free for members. $15 for a yearly student museum membership for not-yet members. Free student memberships are available. Contact Misty Johnson for more information. No experience required. Recommended for teens grades 7–12. Registration required by February 8.

GUIDED GALLERY SKETCH HOUR | First Saturday of the Month

Saturdays, February 3, March 3, April 7, 10–11 am, at the ZMA. Free to museum members, $7 per session for not-yet-members. Drawing benches and boards are provided, or bring your favorite sketchbook or art journal from home. No experience required. Recommended for teens and adults. Register one week in advance.

A BOOK APART | Book Discussion

Join us in reading Martin Gayford’s The Yellow House: Van Gogh, Gauguin, and Nine Turbulent Weeks in Provence. Thursday, March 22, 6–7 pm, at the ZMA. Free and open to the public. No registration required.

ART ON TAP | Social Creativity Hour Tuesdays, January 16, February 20, March 20, April 17, 6–7 pm. Free and open to the public. No experience required. All materials provided. This program is held at Weasel Boy Brewing Company, 126 Muskingum Avenue, Zanesville. No registration required.

THE ADVENTUROUS PALETTE | Clay Edition with Hillary Hendricks Saturday, January 27, 5–7 pm, at the ZMA. $40 for members, $47 not-yet-members. No experience required. All materials, wine, and lite bites are included in the cost of the workshop. Must be 21 or older to enroll. Register by January 20.

REEL MEAL | Breathe Free Join the ZMA and our Reel Meal partners for a special presentation of the moving documentary, Breathe Free Columbus Crossing Borders Project, chronicles the personal stories of refugees living in central Ohio. Saturday, February 3, 2 pm, at the ZMA. Free and open to the public. Donations to Columbus Crossing Borders Project welcome. No registration required.

ZMA CONCERT SERIES | Encore String Trio Enjoy a journey through music history as accomplished musicians Dr. Laura Schumann, Maureen Case, and Darlene Barrett present 400 Years of Classical Favorites. All members of the Southeast Ohio Symphony orchestra, Encore String Trio performers are classically trained, professional string players, committed to providing quality live musical performances for audiences of all ages. .
