The Letter “Z” The image I was trying to capture in the formation of the letter “Z” was myself with my arms out in front of me at shoulder height my back arched backwards and a 90º angle at the knees while perched on a stool. In my sketches, I was trying to express the contour lines of my body to compose the letter formation. I wanted to give width to the stem or the spine of the letter, in comparision arm my arms and feet, to represent my body and the image captured. My first sketches are just roughs of the image to get an idea of what direction I was going in. Then the second is more refined to the final inked image using permanent marker on paper.

The Letter “A” With the formation of the letter “A” the the image used I wanted to do something a little different from the regular or norm. Instead of using my arms to compose the letter “A” I used my to legs as the stems and in a bending over position I made use of my arms by crossing them between my legs to represent the crossbar in the letter. My first sketches are just simple roughs to find the direction to be taken. Then a more fine-tuned sketch to the final image which is ink with permanent marker on paper.

The Letter “C” When capturing the shadow image of the letter “C” I was trying to steer away from the way I formed the letter “A”. So rolling off that idea I only used my arms to compose the image of the letter “C”. I extended my arms and with a slight curve I was able to get, my personal favorite, the contour lines of the letter “C”. Again in my first sketches are just roughs to get an idea, to a more refined sketch, and then the final image which is permanent marker on paper.

The Letter “H” Finally, the imaged I captured to form the letter “H” was a combination of me and help of a fellow classmate. I wanted to have a different x-height to gave the letter my own touch or style. Also, to represent the letter “H” in a different way, go against the grain and get a reaction from my viewers. Wtih that being said, me and another classmate stood upright and laid are arms on top of each others at a 90º angles to give representation of the crossbar in the letter “H”. I started with a few simple sketches, refined those down to a final image inked in permanent marker on paper.
