“Spending time on something is how I honour it”
- Jordan Cunliffe
Meals punctuate our days and are an integral part of our lives as humans. Eating is a universal experience that relates all humans to each other. Recording my meals over the last weeks has provided an opportunity to think back on the process and reminisce on time spent with loved ones.

MOTIFS The motifs in the knitwear correspond to the type of food eaten during a meal. I recorded whether I ate fish, meat, or a meatless dish. Because I’ve been trying to cut down on meat consumption for the environment, this way of recording my meals creates accountability for the food I consume.

COLOURS In each section, there is a background colour and a pattern colour. The background colours correspond to whether the meal was eaten with other people or alone. The pattern colour corresponds to the emotion during that meal. With more time, would I notice a correlation between being with people or not, and how I feel?

LENGTH Duration of meals was recorded in order to keep a diary of time spent around the table. As humans, eating is such an integral part of our day that it seems appropriate to reflect and honour this time by recording it in a repetitive and (to me) meditative craft such as knitting.
