Measured Drawings This set of measured drawings, was based on a combination of 3 techniques - tracing the object, photocopying and measuring. I began with the technique of tracing to trace out the overall form of the egg cutter. To include the details, I utilized the photocopying and measuring method. Photocopying the egg cutter yielded rather unclear images, save for the metal frames and the top of the egg holders. Using the photocopied image, I traced out the details that were clear enough to be seen. For the rest of the details, they were manually measured using a ruler and measuring tape, and drawn them accordingly. The technique of tracing the object and tracing the photocopied image was more efficient than measuring the object. However, when these tracing techniques could not be used due to the form of the object, the measuring technique proved to be a reliable technique

Analysis
The egg cutter is made of plastic and metal, and it enables the cutting of hard boiled eggs into sixths and/or into slices. The eggs placed in the differing egg holders, are cut using a metal frame with wires that slice through the egg.

Depending on the desired outcome of slices or sixths, the shape of the metal frame and egg holder differ. For the cutting of the egg into sixths, the egg holder is shaped such that the hard boiled egg is propped vertically, and has a circular metal frame. For the cutting of the egg into slices, the egg holder is shaped to hold the egg horizontally and has a rectangular metal frame.
CUTTING INTO SIXTHS
To cut the egg into sixths, the egg is propped up vertically in the egg holder and a circular metal frame needs to be placed over the egg and pushed down, allowing the metal wires within the frame to slice through the egg. As the metal wires slice through the egg, the wires fit into the grooves between the egg holder.
CUTTING INTO SLICES
To cut the egg into slices, the egg is placed horizontally on the egg holder and the rectangular metal frame is pushed down, allowing the metal wires within the frame to slice through the egg. As the metal wires slice through the egg, the wires fit into the grooves between the egg holder. The rectangular metal frame is attached to the body of the egg cutter by hinges.

ELEVATION
The egg cutter was done over 4 layers as seen by the various colors, utilizing the earlier done measured drawings as a guide. The modelling method predominantly relied on curves, planar surfaces, extrusions and trim. For the special forms such as the metal frame, pipe function was used.

FRONT ELEVATION
The sketch model was inspired by contour lines and the horizontal egg holder. The position in which the model is seen in side elevation 1 influenced sketch model 1.

COMPONENTS DETAILS
The sketch model consists of 11 panels with different curves that are arranged parallel to each other as seen in the COMPONENTS image. By having them parallel to each other, a curvature is created as seen in the DETAILS and FRONT ELEVATION image. When creating the curvature, I had in mind the idea of a human head resting against and being supported by the curve.

Sketch Design #1 Comfort, Enclosure, Privacy What is your idea? [Maximum 5 key words]
How does this respond to your personal space?
The shell itself should feel like a barrier between the user and the external environment. With an opaque barrier, the user would feel like the internal space within is part of his personal space.

Sketch Design #2 Cubic, Utilitarian, Modular What is your idea? [Maximum 5 key words]
How does this respond to your personal space?
The cubic form is an opaque barrier, allowing the user to feel like the internal space within is part of his personal space.

Sketch Design #3 Contours, Support, Depth What is your idea? [Maximum 5 key words]
How does this respond to your personal space? The contour shell is quite open but the width and height of the form creates volume which users would respond to as part of their personal space.
