SITE IMPRESSION
DOCUMENTING AND HIGHLIGHTING QUALITIIES THAT REFER TO THE IDEA OF NEGLECT
NEGLECT My first impression of the site was that I felt that it was uncared for or neglected, building a hypothesis that there a certain degree of neglect apparent within the site. This involved record and documenting the materialistic qualities of the site that are somewhat apart of the infrastructure or a disconnect. This resulted in an investigation into question the behavioural b=reaction inhabitants have towards the site and unfolded a narrative towards the idea that the site has this inner life and somewhat coexists and reacted to certain disturbances.

JUXSTAPOSITION BETWEEN A SUPERMARKET A GP CLINIC
CHAPTER 2- J U X T A P O S T I O N I N G I have decided to juxtapose the supermarket with small GP clinic. This inspired from the ideology of the level of wastage and how as a society our needs are growing in terms towards what we consume. In comparison to my research into ww2 and the culture of rationing. This synchronises with a GP clinic as it is considered as one the first point of contact towards diagnosis and from the phrase `you are what you eat` I intend to bridge these to program with a more tailored experience of shopping and representing food as form of medicine. The juxtaposition of the clinic will be emphasis in a more subtle nature in terms of scale acting as tool towards a shopping experience and by fulfilling a new level of accessibility it will solve problems such as the 9-5 closing of normal practises and the struggle of even getting appointment. Overall, the focus within these programs will evolve around synchronising instead of contrasting to areas of necessity and manipulating them to offer value to the programs by introducing options.

DEFINING THE SUPERMARKET
A large self serviced shop selling foods and houshold goods The supermarket is a product of industrialism that evolved around the increase in populations, changes in economy and mass production. In the early days one would approach merchants that would provide one with merchandise and products with precise amounts to how much one would need. In contrast now the supermarket enviroment involve a more self serviced nature and provides so much more in terms of the types of products. mass produced and are pre packaged. this is related to new modern scoeital demands as there a high demand for faster and instant purchasing which, has caused developments in technological aspects. These examples reference the changes in the nature of supermarkets and how they act as refelections to a locations nature. For examples, socially certain brands of supermarket are stereotypes for cetrain type of people whether it be social class, age, wage and lifestyle choices.
THE AISLE
An aisle (British English: gangway) is, in general (common), a space for walking with rows of seats on both sides or with rows of seats on one side and a wall on the other. Aisles can be seen in airplanes, certain types of buildings, such as churches, cathedrals, synagogues, meeting halls, parliaments and legislatures, courtrooms, theatres, and in certain types of passenger vehicles. Their floors may be flat or, as in theatres, stepped upwards from a stage.
SUPERMARKET TYPES
DIMENSIONS RULE OF THUMB height for newly built premises ≥ 3.00 m; height for pre-existing premises ≥ 2.70 m; minimum height of emergency routes and exits – 2.00 m; emergency routes and exits must remain clear of any obstacles; emergency door width ≥ 0.80 m (sizing depends on the premise level of crowding); provide changing room and toilet facilities for staff; retail mezzanine floor area ≤ 2/3 of the store surface minimum height above and below the mezzanine ≥ 2.40 m (average height ≤ 2.20 m for sloped roofs); mezzanine depth≤ 2.5 times the lower one of the previously indicated height measurements. shopper walking in the aisle – 0.60 – 0.90 m shopper standing in front of shelves – 0.75 – 0.90 m shopper with trolley – 0.75 – 0.90 m person in wheelchair ≤ 0.90 m display rack width – 0.80 m chiller cabinet width – 0.90 m refrigerator unit width – 1.40 m deli counter width – 1.20 – 1.40 m shelving width – 0.80 m.
FREE FLOW LAYOUT Considered as the simplest type of store layout, freeflow systems combine different layouts and have many pros. There is no defined pattern, therefore this layout type affords you the most creativity, where typically the grid layout integrates to an innovative island layout and encourages shoppers to go in any direction while increasing impulsive buying. When designing a supermarket,a well-structured store layout can be advantageous for both consumer and retailer and will be crucial to the overall commercial activity performance, especially when considered together with correct sizing
ISLAND LAYOUT It is a more recent and innovative organizational model. This type of distribution involves the presentation of products arranged on platforms or on other supports located in different points of the supermarket. Generally, this model is common in small specialized shops, or in niche shops for displaying small-sized items and provide a personalized aspect to the business. The positive aspect of this model is the greater freedom for the customer, who is provided with a free route that allows him to observe all the products arranged in homogeneous areas. This arrangement makes the customermore motivated to visit the whole store and, with the products matching his type of needs, unplanned purchases are encouraged. In addition, this model values the customer and fully satisfies his needs. Downsides are:Less space optimization as compared to the grid layout, since with the same surface area it is possible to place fewer racks higher logistics costs, especially in terms of shelves management and organization.
THE BAZAR A market (as in the Middle East) consisting of rows of shops or stalls selling miscellaneous goods
The bazaar is defined as a ancient market place being present in middle eastern and Asian cultures. The word itself evolved come from the ancient word “wazaar meaning market. However, it is more of just a market in terms of collecting groceries, as it accommodates trading services, and range of cultural activities’ and acts as a device accommodating move-ment throughout a city. What interests me to the bazaar is simply the richness and the immersive experiences you gain. As you are domed over these earthy feeling architectural elements with market stall pocketing around the circulation space with a scatter of people as the multiple conversations act as background music. It is agreeable it is somewhat outdated inspiration but in reference to designing an English supermarket their value there in how to capture an immersive shopping experience and simply design towards a behaviour.

BIOPHILIC DESIGN
Biophilic design is the concept in which the built environment is integrated in providing an empathises onto nature. This exposes the qualities of what makes us human but exposing ones experiences in spaces to-wards nature, resulting an improvement in quality to ones activities. As we are inclined to have more posi-tive reaction, advancing our health, fitness and wellbeing. This concept was based on Edward O. Wilson hypothesis that at humans have an inherited need to connect to nature and other biotic forms due to our evolutionary dependence on it for survival and personal fulfilment.

RESULTANT FORCE MERGING IDEAS
THIS DRAWING IS A RASULT OF MERGING THE IDELAOGOY OF REACTIONS AND UNKEPT NATURE OF THE SITE TO SYSTEMMATIC REHEARS SPATIAL NATURE OF SUPERMARKET. THIS IS MERGED USING A SET OF CONSTRAINTS THAT WILL ALLOW BE TO BUILD GEOMETRIC VALUES AND GRID THAT WILL BE USED A FRAMEWORK UPON THE SITE.THIS MARRIES THE TWO IDEAS FROM THE SENSE THAT CONSTRAINTS ADOPT A REHEARSED APPROACH AND PERFROM AS REACTIVE ELEMNT FOR EXAMPLE IF ONE CONSTRAINT IS MANIPULATED A CHAIN OF REACTION MAY OCCUR WHEN EXPERIEMNTING WITH GEOMETRY REFEREONG TO AN UNCONTROLLED RESULT.
This experiment was carried out in order to formulate a three-dimensional resultant force that origi-nated from my design code. This involves building a cast with the grid engraved within the cast. The intention was to use an element that can deteriorate and document the process of deterioration re-ferring to my findings in chapter 1 and ice was the perfect product. This experiment involved freezing the water in ice and allow it to sit a room temperature and photograph it every minute to document the changes to be analyses to provide geometric inspiration. In relation to design a supermarket this built a perspective wot embracing the out of controlled unkept, messy nature of the site in order to design playfully to synchronise seamlessly tot the sites existing forces
