In the Dream
The aim of this workshop, was to articulate our position and response to a set of exemplary paradigms selected from the history of architecture since the so-called ‘revolution’ of the ‘Modern Movement’ - and to illustrate this in the form of an emblematic image that can act as a personal manifesto, that can always be used as a reference, in the course of our continuing engagement with Architecture. The workshop’s assignment combined a survey of the origins and evolution of the ‘Modern’ in architecture, its meaning and its bearing, with a re-presentation and transformation of the material studied. This project was a group project and the final manifesto was result of the process we did together.

analyzing detailed of the city, defining scale of intervention, finding opportunites for reviving the neighborhood, developing a proposal for the study area City of Lima is the capital of Peru with a population of almost 10 million. In this studio as Global Studio, city of Lima were studied and an urban regeneration interventions were proposed as a result of detailed analysis of the city. The study area involves presence of six miles industrial strip, few abandoned industrial buildings, informal settlements and new housing development. Some of the major issues with the city and specificly with study area were lack of water, air pollution, pollution of the river Rimac, safety, density, unemployment, lack of basic services in informal settlements, empty industrial areas and edge conditions. On the march 2015 we visited Lima under a study abroad program. It was an opportunity to visit the site and become more familiar with the city.

The project was carried in five different phases. In the first phase the city of Lima were studied and four key maps that illustrated urban evolution, geography transportation and land use of the entire city were created. This phase was completed as a group research. Land use map enlightened the existing pattern within the city, like commercial strips, industrial areas, new development of the city. It represent daily life of residents like where they go to work, do shopping or spend free time. Also it underlines the future possibility of the city growth.
Rimac, the main river in the city, is a forgotten river and it is in the periphery of the city while geographically is located at the center of the city. Rimac condition intensify disconnection of south and north and create a place for informality, poverty and unsafety along it. Also city has issues with water sources. The availability of Rimac at the center of Lima while its water flows to the ocean, created this question for me to how we can use the Rimac. The River is a great source of water while through its echologycal footprint it will create pleasent and vibrant area as many case studies around the world show that. If the pollution of River could solve through design elements, it would be a source for revivng the city not only in neighborhood scale but in scale of the city.

Daily Market Bordered by the proposed vegetable market and mall to the west, affordable housing to the north east, community playgrounds to the north and the existing affordable housing to the south, the park acted as a meeting point for different social activities for the various urban residents while subtly making them aware of the existing resource and its importance. To bring about this change, I also proposed a framework of various collaborations between public and private developers as well as the cities of Lima and Callao.

A natural water purification park can purify the water while create a bio diverse environment. How about bringing the river to the city and connect the south and north by river? The most obvious problem for bringing water to the city is its contamination. This plan is trying to create a water purification park in the scale of the city for a variety of reasons. First of all by purifying the water it can use for irrigation and even drinking water in a desert city. After completing the purification process the water will channelizing to storage site for irrigation trucks. Also presence of water and the environment that it creates will help to connect the two parts of the city.

Proposing a New Development Model with Urban Agriculture

anlyzing city in various scale, finding potential of the city, proposing an scheme for the new development, representing new model for future mixed-use developments The relation of Cities and work space and commuting between these two spaces have had an undeniable role on Form of the City. What about city? In the 21th century with the incredible development in digital technologies this relation have started to change. Now many employee works remotely at their home while do all the jobs via Internet and on line. Besides that, many people wants to start their own business and being their own boss. For those who have some up to date knowledge it is easy to define a project and sell it to a company later. Most of the time all they need is a computer and an Internet connection. In this site, graduated students from Iowa State University, have this opportunity to start their own business. Through the project, a desirable work space provided for those who wants to be creative in a quiet ecofriendly environment while can enjoy the social life of a dense city.
The goal of local studio was a radical re urban development in Midwest. We had connections and combinations while co with agriculture. The project site was si north-east of Ames.

anlyzing city in various scale, finding potential of the city, proposing an scheme for the new development, representing new model for future mixed-use developments Community Design Lab has been working with communities and organizations to create equity and resilience through inclusive, transferable, innovative strategies and tactics. I worked there as research assitant in some of the projects there: “capitol east project in des Moines, SW 9th corridor in Des Moines, Agricultureal urbanism toolkit in Des Moines, Cedar Rapid and Cresco, Centerville, and 6th avenue Corridor in Des Moines.
Capitol East Project:
In the “Capitol East Project” the goal was integrate the neighbourhood to the historic and contemporary fabrics of Des Moines. This neighbourhood is gateway to east of the city and the project is trying to give this sense to the neighbourhood. As a part of project there is some scenarios which show how the neighbourhood actually looks like after implementation. I as an assistant in this project helped to represent some of the scenarios. In the picture below, is showing the new park features a bike share and repair station. The park and its artful structure act as a welcome sign into the neighbourhood.

The whole idea was designing a building to be connected to other adjacent buildings to create a vibrant public space. As a team of project, in the process of designing and rendering the building I helped other team members. This competition was great opportunity to work in a short amount of time with a group by using all designing and rendering skills.

Gozineh Firm, 2013 A Family Apartment

Communicating with clients, Drawing the maps, presenting design ideas, preparing construction drawings, presenting 3d rendering This project was one of the many projects I did when I worked for Gozineh firm in Tehran, Iran. The client was a middle-age man who ask for designing an apartment for himdelf and his three children. While he wanted to keep the tradition of core family housses and the idea of living all family together, he respected to his children demands. They were looknig for more modern flat as their lifestyle. Right acroos the buiding site there was a small local park. We opened the view of the buiding to this park for more sunlight and pleasent view. At the same time to respect family values and privacy, a seriec of wooden boards block the view from outside. The facade has a sense of modern houses while sooden panels give more traditional apperance to the buiding. Also in designing the interior of the buiding, every flat was designed based on each family members’ requests.

Researching on data, preparing the maps for arch GIS, analysis of maps and information, representing the final result
GIS can be used to develop a community emergency response plan by identifying the location of schools, medical centers, strategic areas and evacuation routes. During the emergency the maps providing through GIS can determine clean roads and quickly identifying critical infrastructure and their condition. In this class project, I choose a series of layers or maps based on their significance during an earthquake. Then through AHA hierarchy in Arch GIS I analyzed the layers. The result at the end is map of safe open spaces after an earthquake scenario in Tehran.

Personal Statement I worked in Tehran after graduating from architecture school for few years. I practiced there as a junior license architect. Then to have more knowledge of the architecture world I came to the United States for graduate school. Now I am looking for a job to get more experience in the field. I do believe in Nietzsche quote as he stated “we have art so that we may not perish by the truth”. Architecture for me is the embodiment of daily life in the form of art. I think architects have this opportunity of creating space that can change the way people perceive built environment and interact in that. Urban design as the job of designers/architects in scale of the city is dealing with more complicate layers. I am interested in urban design and fascinated by cities since life is happening in cities. Humans within environment, infrastructure, networks, buildings, culture, economy, politics and many other elements create the cities as the ultimate of civilization. I am so thrilled to be an architect and urban designer to be a creator “so we may not perish by the truth”.
