The #1 childcare choice for internationally minded families in The Hague
Setting the Standard in International Childcare Zein International Childcare’s mission and philosophy is based on providing an internationally oriented nurturing learning environment. Zein was founded by committed childcare professionals who understand the value of embracing the advantages that an internationally oriented lifestyle brings to children. We have developed a programme that pays particular attention to the uniqueness of growing up in an internationally oriented learning environment – focussing on the need to make children feel at home and at ease during transitions. Through teaching socio-emotional competencies we hope to equip children with the necessary skills, knowledge and attitudes for their social and emotional development, which will help them succeed in their friendships, school life, home life, future careers and as members of the wider community.
Open to all internationally minded families, we truly aim to Set the Standard in International Childcare – consistently exceeding parental expectations and going above and beyond what is offered in standard childcare. We have a high staff:child ratio ensuring a clear focus on the quality of care for the individual child, and an on-site chef who prepares fresh, organic warm meals and snacks throughout the day. Our commitment to quality, together with our internationally diverse and well qualified staff, results in those small touches that make a big difference. It’s this family oriented approach that makes Zein the first choice for internationally minded parents looking for quality care for their children.
As the leading provider of English speaking childcare services in the Netherlands Zein has won several awards for their innovative and progressive approach to childcare, and is a trusted partner of all key international schools in The Hague.
The Dutch Childcare Allowance Because Zein is a registered and fully licensed childcare provider the Dutch government reimburses a substantial portion of the childcare costs to all families where both parents (or a single parent) are working or studying – irrespective of nationality or length of stay. Visit zeinchildcare.nl to find out how much you will get back or ask our registration office for (free) support with your application.
It’s not just what we do,
it’s about how we do it Our approach to childcare is embedded in all aspects of the organisation at Zein, including the interior design of our locations. To help create a home-like environment for our children, we favour a natural approach with beautiful stylish wallpaper, soft carpeted areas and spaces furnished ‘just like home’. The interior of Zein Childcare centres is, in fact, so integral to our approach that Zein has designed its own furniture line under the name ‘Dutch DeZein’. Using smooth wooden forms, the natural and homely children’s furniture line brings the outdoors inside by using organic shapes reminiscent of a tree.
Professional and caring teachers Zein teachers are caring role models with an international background – trained and experienced professionals who truly love working with children. They are there to nurture, guide and support the children to be the best they can be, in all areas of development. We believe in investing in the development of our staff for the benefit of the children in our care. The Zein Academy was set up to provide professional tailor-made training for all staff with a unique focus on the international and multilingual child.
With over 100 staff representing 39 nationalities, Zein really is ‘setting the standard’ in the international make up of its workforce.
Day Care and Pre-School Laying the foundations Zein’s specially designed Early Childhood Curriculum provides an internationally oriented learning environment, with an integrated programme that allows for the individual development of each child to be properly catered for. In Day Care, our vertical grouping provides a home-like setting with the placement of siblings in the same group, allowing younger children to be encouraged and stimulated by the older children – and teachers – around them. Small steps are both celebrated and valued.

With a high staff:child ratio of three carers per group, our day care offers a loving, safe and home-like environment for your child. We consider ourselves partners in the care of every child and pay particular attention to socioemotional growth – a critical area for all children, but even more so for transient Third Culture Kids (TCKs). We provide a nurturing but stimulating programme to help develop your child’s individuality and self-confidence to the fullest.
Our pre-school provides the ideal option if you want your child to socialise, develop and learn – but do not need full time care. Our tailored pre-school curriculum ensures positive and observable development – it builds independence and confidence, ensuring an easy transition into junior or primary school when your child is ready. Both morning and afternoon* sessions are available with attendance patterns ranging from one to five days per week.
Monday to Friday (1 day minimum) Year round, only closed on public holidays Full Day Sessions 08:00 - 18:30

Fresh, organic warm meals and snacks At Zein, we believe that nutrition is one of the most important aspects of a child’s development. Therefore, we make sure that every child eats as healthily as possible. In line with our commitment to your child’s well-being, our full-time chefs serve fresh wholesome warm meals and healthy snacks. Personalised meals are made for children with special feeding requirements.
The gift of language Many children who join Zein Childcare speak a language other than English at home. At Zein we understand the added value that a bi or multi-lingual upbringing can offer, and we ensure that we support the language development of the children in our care. Whether your child will go on to attend a local Dutch school or experience an international education, spending time in an English speaking environment during their developmental years can provide many advantages.
After School and Holiday Care Where the fun begins Zein has been offering After School and Holiday Care services to the international community of The Hague for over 10 years. The services provided at our five Out of School Care locations are tailored to the specific opening times and term dates of each of our partner schools. By also covering early closure and teacher admin or training days, we can ensure that we are always able to provide care for your child exactly when you need it.
We recognise the need of each child to relax, refresh and play at the end of a formal school day. In a welcoming and home-like environment we motivate and engage children in a fun range of creative activities, offering Themes and Topics aimed at meeting the interests of the children in our care. To encourage teamwork, the children collaborate on focused projects for an extended period of time. This fits alongside a sporting and recreational programme that encourages children to exercise and explore the outdoors. Older children are also supported through the provision of quiet homework time.
During all school holidays, our locations become day long hubs of fun as they play host to our Holiday programme. During the shorter breaks, Multi-Activity Camps are the order of the day, but the longer holidays offer the chance for activities to be organised around different themes. From Surfing to Performing Arts and Tennis to Circus Skills there is a great range of fun filled days to choose from. Every weekly activity programme is also complemented by two exciting field trips.
