ontemporary art is using universal language. Viewers do not need to know author’s background to understand his or her work. But knowledge on artist’s biography broadens context in which viewer places the work he or she observes. These two principles – universalism of art and its biographity – are the base of project Chec (stream). Individual Articulations that Zenko Gallery presents from the 10th of February till the 1st of April 2017 in Zenko Foundation art space in hotel resort Koruna in Tatariv, Ivano-Frankivsk region.

T

o participate in it well known Ivano-Frankivsk curator Anatoly Zvizhynsky invited almost 20 artists and art groups. All of them are from Ivano-Frankivsk region. Some of them are from older generation of artists and stood at the origins of contemporary art in the region and in Ukraine in general, others – still are aspiring artists. Part of the participants are on display mostly in Ivano-Frankivsk, others – on the contrary are on the view abroad. Works that are presented are as various: classic painting, graphics, photo, video, installations. The works capture 25 years of Western Ukrainian contemporary art.

T

he exhibition based on geographical, biographical and historical principles creates some kind of a portrait of contemporary art of one exact region. It demostrates that artistic language used by Ukrainian artists is truly universal. And Western-Ukrainian accent makes it just more interesting.

E

xactly on such themes Zenko Gallery is planning to place a bet. Chech is our first massive exhibition in Ukraine and not the last. So – see you at our next exhibitions!

The idea behind the project is to present individual art practices of the leading Ivano-Frankivsk region artists. The exhibition selects the most valuable, the most characteristic for each of the authors, to show the variety of their worlds.

The conjugation of individual artist’s worldviews, not connected by the “logic of sense” in one place would create a variegated and fragmented but nevertheless sincere picture of actual interests in the region.

To participate in Chech (stream). Individual Articulations curator Anatoly Zvizhynsky invited almost 20 artists and art groups of different generations.

Artists presented works created during the period from 1990s when contemporary art in the region was newly born till nowadays. The exposition includes painting, photo, installations, and video-art.
