PROJECT 6:

Who’s Louisville? The Intention of a Bridge:

Artists Working at the Nexus of Culture and Marketplace When a group of artists assume leadership of a chamber of commerce, a legacy of break-the-mold programs at the nexus of culture and marketplace begins to take shape and new pathways to opportunity begin to open. Artists have valuable insights and skills that can benefit neighborhoods, businesses and policy makers. IDEAS is developing a new, central role for these skills to be used in shaping our city’s future. From helping mature industry leaders become more competitive, to catalyzing community revitalization, to workforce development, IDEAS is an organization that is making Louisville a place where artists are becoming embedded into the very fabric of the city’s new approach to building a just, sustainable economy. IDEAS is an entrepreneurial organization. We place a high value on experimentation as a necessary component of innovation. While our methods may differ from current business, community development and artistic practices, we respect differing viewpoints and, when possible, strive to find common ground for collaboration. Our creative network of local, regional and national members brings a unique mix of perspectives and political realism combined with an interest in policy innovation -helping us become a new source of pragmatic and creative initiatives that integrate across many sectors of the Louisville economy. Ultimately, our goal is to be a creative catalyst enabling Louisville to move forward while succeeding socially, culturally, and economically. IDEAS is a new kind of “bridge” organization combining culture and business with the goal of making the promise of Louisville real for every Louisvillian. Our Louisville values diversity, nurtures creativity and believes in fairness. The Who’s Louisville? Project is a two-month dialogue to further cultivate a network of allies, to have frank discussions and to promote inclusive practices for creating the best Louisville possible. All of us at IDEAS look forward to sharing this experimental journey with you - even where there may be differences because in the end, even our differences can be the foundation of a wall or the intention of a bridge. Sincerely, Theo Edmonds IDEAS, Founding Director
