4 - DEACTIVATION & ACTIVATION FOR DOCTORS - Deactivation and activation of the ZSI 375 is performed by doctors during the healing period, to perform an endoscopy or to place a catheter into the urethra.

HOW TO DEACTIVATE THE ZSI 375? Deactivation means that you lock the mechanism of the sphincter. The cuff can no longer be inflated or deflated

FOR PATIENTS - Deactivation and activation are not for patient use. But if there are symptoms of an accidental deactivation, retention (partial or full), incontinence (partial or full), or the ZSI 375 does not seem to function properly, please perform a re-activation.

Step 1

Activation Button

Pump Button

Hold the Pump Unit in the scrotum with one hand. Firmly press and release the Pump Button twice (the bulb) with the index finger of the other hand to empty the cuff.

Step 2

Pump Button (other side)

Hold the Pump Unit in the scrotum with one hand. Firmly press the activation button with the index finger of the other hand. The activation button is at the opposite side of the deactivation Button and the Pump Button (Bulb).The artificial sphincter is activated.

HOW TO CHECK THAT THE DEVICE IS DEACTIVATED

- The patient is incontinent. - Perform a Cystoscope to check if urethra is open. - Perform a frontal Xray of device. The image should clearly show device placed upright. Spring should be compressed and sit below the top of the cylinder like so: Deactivation Button

Then press the deactivation button firmly with the index finger to deactivate the sphincter. The deactivation button is just above the Pump Button. The artificial sphincter is deactivated.

3 - FUNCTIONING OF THE ARTIFICIAL URINARY SPHINCTER ZSI 375

1 - ANATOMY The Bladder is the organ containing urine. The Intrinsic Sphincter is a muscle around the urethra. By compressing the urethra the sphincter holds the urine in the bladder and prevents incontinence. When the sphincter releases the urethra, the bladder can empty itself.

3.2 - THE HYDRAULIC CIRCUIT

Step 1 The cuff is inflated. The urethra is compressed. The patient is continent.

3.1 - HOW TO URINATE?

Step 2 When the patient wants to urinate, he squeezes and releases the pump button located in the scrotum.

2 - THE ARTIFICIAL SPHINCTER ZSI 375 The artificial urinary sphincter ZSI 375 is a medical device implanted in the body. It works like an intrinsic sphincter.

Step 3

The Cuff is placed around the urethra. The Pump Unit is placed in the scrotum.

The unit pulls the fluid out of the cuff releasing the pressure around the urethra. The patient voids. The bladder is empty. Cuff

With one hand hold the Pump Unit in the scrotum with the Pump Button forward.

Step 4

Not to be touch by patients

With the index finger of the other hand press and release the Pump Button once.

The Deactivation Button is a small button found on the upper part of the Pump Unit just above the Pump Button.

The Cuff deflates, decompressing the urethra.

Within 2-3 minutes the cuff automatically re-inflates The patient is continent again.

The Activation Button is a small button placed on the upper part of the Pump Unit at the opposite end of the Deactivation and Pump Button.

The Cuff needs 2-3 minutes to automatically re-inflate and compress the urethra once again.
