information

The two picturesque municipalities Marebbe and San Martin de Tor are cosily nestled at the heart of the world-famous, awe-inspiring Dolomites. With only 3000 inhabitants, over the years Marebbe has successfully retained its quaint look and character. SAN VIGILIO is both the administrative centre of the Marebbe municipal area and a key destination for tourism and culture. The hamlets Pieve di Marebbe, Rina and Longega offer a fascinating glimpse of the charming historic Ladin communities. With the remarkable Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park and the popular Kronplatz ski resort on the village's doorstep, Marebbe is an attractive destination for summer sports.

SAN MARTIN DE TOR, the centre of the municipal area of the same name, is home to both the Museum Ladin and the Micurà de Rü Institute of Ladin Culture – two significant institutions which foster and cultivate the Ladin language and customs, turning the village into the undisputed cultural centre of the Badia valley. Small and yet wow, notably welcoming Picolin is just around the corner. Lungiarü is an unspoiled mountain hamlet at the heart of the Dolomites, framed by the imposing Puez-Odle and Sasso Putia massifs. At the foot of the latter, laid out between lush meadows and forests, lies Antermoia – the ideal starting point for a large number of hikes.

Enjoy your stay in the Badia valley. We promise you will never forget it! Your San Vigilio and San Martin de Tor Tourist Office teams Summer Info | San Vigilio Dolomites | San Martin de Tor | 3

The total distance is about 14 km, but you are free to start off or stop anywhere along the route.

Q TRU DAL'EGA: theme walk (H: 3 h)

We absolutely recommend a short detour to the watercourse at the entrance of the Ciastlins valley, from where you can hike to Fodara Masaronn with its Ega de San Vi springs. It is home to a number of rare animal species like the Golden Eagle, ibex, marmots and chamois as well as many reptiles and amphibians, thanks to its fertile and rocky natural landscape. The 10,200 ha of the Puez-Odle Nature Park too are characterised by a striking variety of wildlife and geological contrasts: Nestled

between impressive rock formations, its moonscape-like plateaus are home to countless fossils and the bizarre remains of the Jurassic and Cretaceous Periods. This vast array of rock and soil types, the many different altitude levels and the local microclimate are home to a never-ending variety of plants: Daphne striata, alpenrose rhododendron shrubs, berry bushes, spring pasque flowers, crocuses, monkshood, meadow saffron, arnica and red clover are only a few examples of the Nature Park's rich flora, which also boasts splendid spruce and larch woods alongside fragrant dwarf mountain pines. And the animal kingdom of the Nature Park is just as exciting, with gorgeous butterflies, cheeky marmots, melodious songbirds ... and armed with a bit of patience and luck, you might even spot an owl, eagle or deer!

MTB RULES OF CONDUCT > Respect all barriers: Many roads and trails are used predominantly for agriculture and forestry. Always close the gates of pasture fences. > Ride at a sensible speed and make sure you can stop swiftly and within your field of vision. Watch out for obstacles which could appear in front of you all of a sudden: potholes, rocks, tree branches, stacks of wood, grazing animals, cattle grids, barriers, tractors, forestry equipment, authorised vehicles etc. > Be considerate towards hikers and other pedestrians and keep at walking pace when overtaking. > When choosing a route, bear in mind its difficulty level and select one which is appropriate for your skills and experience. > Always wear a helmet and test your equipment (bike bell, brakes, lights) before you set off. > Be respectful with nature and wild animals: Keep on your marked route and do not leave the path or road. Try to be back at home before dusk and do not leave any rubbish behind. > Please note that all cycling is at the visitor's own risk.

From the Fanes pastures, it leads briefly uphill to Lé de Limo and with a slight slope across the larger Fanes valley, which is no doubt the most awe-inspiring high valley in the Alps, with Piz Taibun and Cima Scotoni making for an unforgettably picturesque backdrop. After a relatively level bit leading to Col de Locia, a very difficult trail descent runs to Capanna Alpina. Route: Definitely one of Europe's most beautiful cycling tours: The Fanes-Senes route leads smoothly from San Vigilio along a narrow toll road up to the Pederü refuge within the Nature Park. After 13 km going slightly uphill, a partly steep gravel road takes you to the cosy Fanes refuge and on to Lé de Limo. Continue descending along the rocky gravel road in the direction of Cortina d'Ampezzo. Shortly before the Fiames car park, the road leads back up the Malga Ra Stua inn and on to the Sennes mountain inn, set in a breathtaking backdrop of craggy Dolomite peaks. AGRICULTURE Agriculture plays an important role in South Tyrol. The efforts of local farmers to conserve and protect our cultivated landscapes have also greatly benefited regional tourism. We therefore kindly ask our guests to treat the beauty of our nature and the hard work of our farmers with respect and care. A few basic rules can help you do so quite easily: There are a number of paths and trails available for strolls, hiking and cycling. Please stay on them and do not cross the nearby fields or meadows. Park your car carefully and without obstructing roads and paths or access to fields and agricultural/forestry structures and buildings. Dog owners should at all times make use of the available dog toilets. Please do not under any circumstances let your dog do its business in the fields and pastures – doing so is extremely harmful to the environment as the grass is used for grazing and as hay to feed cattle! Thank you for helping us protect our wonderful nature.

WE SUGGEST If you are looking for a special souvenir or even just a piece of San Vigilio di Marebbe to take home with you, why not try some of the many mouth-watering South Tyrolean products? The Senni cooperative for example offers a wide range of produce made with milk from our mountain farms: fresh, unique and free from genetic engineering. Great taste and quality from our Alpine landscapes!
