On January 30th 2016, the Deepings Library will once again be open for business. A hard fought campaign, by the people of the Deepings means that now as a result of a three way partnership between the Friends of Deeping Library, Deepings Community Trust and Lincolnshire Library Service, supported by Market Deeping Town and Deeping St James Parish Councils, the Library will employ a member of staff initially for fifteen hours, who will work alongside volunteers to ensure that the service continues. The campaign, which has taken us to Downing Street, has had many peaks and troughs and the Committee of the Friends are now looking forward to providing an enhanced service as they look to roll out a number of events in the future. The picture above, from a collection held by William Wade and whose family resided in Wade House until 1971, was taken on a winter’s morning about 1960 from Wade House looking over the Park behind, now the Community Centre, Douglas Road and Wade Park Avenue. The elms always provided a shelter for a large rookery. The view has somewhat changed but as this year comes to an end we can rest assured that the handsome building and the invaluable service that it provides will remain in the capable hands of those who went over and above the call of duty to save it. The toast is ‘the people of the Deepings’. 3

Driving membership and ensuring that the Royal British Legion is at the heart of the community are the aims of new Langtoft and Deepings Chairman, Thomas Brand. A well attended public meeting heard that the local branch of the Legion contributed £14,500 to £45 million raised nationally in the 2014 poppy appeal. Four teams of horses competed in this years Ploughing Match in front of 400 spectators who watched just under 100 ploughing entries at Thetford House Farm, Baston. The prestigious Horse Ploughing Challenge Cup was won by E Worthington of Fishlake Doncaster, while the cup for the best turned out team of horses was won by Andy Elms of Solihull. The Deeping Ploughing Match Champion of Ploughmen 2015 was Mr M Taylor of Melton Mowbray who also won the Garford Farm Machinery Challenge Cup in Class 4 of the Vintage Tractor Ploughing Classes.
Two Deeping businesses have had a change of ownership this Autumn with Carol Martin retiring from Martins Florists after 24 years at the helm, now left in the capable hands of Natalie Thurston, a trained florist who has worked with Carol for the last five years. In Deeping St James it was a sad day when Maggie and Bob Clack closed the doors on the Post Office in Church Street for the last time. Fortunately for the village this has now reopened in Sams in Rycroft Avenue.
Dr Jonathan Foyle, historian, architect and broadcaster returned to his old school in the Deepings to open the new Science Block, heralded by the headmaster, Mr Richard Trow, as a brave investment undertaken at a time when the country was in recession. Lisa Goodchild was credited with getting the project underway and special mention was given to the inscriptions left on the struts and beams in the new building by students as a lasting testament to fellow student Lucy Jessop, who died while the building was being erected. 7

Having been involved in a similar project for Sam Markey’s daughter-in-law in Ireland, the group saw the opportunity in the Deepings and are now knitting for Lives, Peterborough Premature Baby Unit and the Carer Sitter Service. The Clergy, Choir and Congregation of the Priory Church Deeping St James take their hats off at the start of their ‘raising the roof campaign’. The Church needs to raise £15,000 to plug the gap in funds needed to complete repairs to stop leaking through the aisle roof.

FEATURE ‘The night and the snow came on together and dismal enough they were. There was no sound to be heard but the howling of the wind, for the noise of the wheels and the tread of the horses’ feet were rendered inaudible by the thick coating of snow which covered the earth, and was fast increasing every moment. The streets of Stamford were deserted as they passed through the town and its old churches rose howling and dark from the whitened ground. Twenty miles further on, two of the front outside passengers wisely availing themselves of their arrival at one of the best coaching inns in England turned in for the night at the George at Grantham. The remainder wrapped themselves more closely in their coats and cloaks and leaving the light and the warmth of the town behind them pillowed themselves against the luggage and prepared with many half suppressed moans again to encounter the piercing blast which swept across the open country.’

When this was written by Charles Dickens in ‘Nicholas Nickelby’ in 1838, the Deeping Stage, then known as the New Inn, had been open twenty-five years since around 1803, shown on the house mark still visible today and boasting the initials of the first owners, Joseph Mawby and his wife. It was advertised as being entirely new with ‘well fitted commodious accommodation for the nobility, gentry and commercial travellers’. The posting charge for travellers was 1/3d (15 pence in new money) per mile, and the Boston Perseverance Coach reached the Inn from London every morning at 6.45. The coach to London was in time for breakfast at 8.30 a.m. and arrived in the city the same evening at 9 o’clock. Prior to this new building, the Bull Inn had provided the only accommodation for horses and carriages which passed through the town, 86.5 miles from London. In 1743 eight stage coaches passed through the town daily and the innkeeper would gladly drive continued >

FEATURE travellers in his own post chaise to catch other coaches. At the back of the building, the large stables, now garages, are a reminder of these glory days when this was the only way to get around the country. In 1814 the new Stamford to Boston Post Coach, the ‘Olive Branch’, was stopping at the New Inn. The fare from the town to Boston was 3/6d (just under 50p) for inside passengers and 2/6d if you chose the outside. From Market Deeping to London the fare was 26/- and 14/- respectively. In 1825 evidence of competition between the Inns arose when Thomas Dawson, landlord of the Bull, advertised that all travellers staying at his Inn could be forwarded to Stilton and Boston for just 1/- per mile. The London Mail was still using the New Inn in 1842. Four years later the local press reported an accident which took place at the Inn. A stage coach had left Lincoln for London and as always the horses were changed at Deeping and the passengers refreshed themselves. This summer’s day was particularly hot and dusty and the passengers and horses were very tired and thirsty. It was approaching 6.00 p.m. when the coach swung through the familiar archway. The horses, smelling water, veered a little to the right of the carriageway; the stone slab floor gave way, an abyss appeared and horses, coach and passengers were plunged into oblivion, leaving the Ostler gaping. When the New Inn came up for auction in 1951 the bell of the Ostler, employed to look after the horses at the Inn, was still in evidence. Today the name is still seen painted on the wall, and of course the large coaching entrance and the bow windows, now on the inside, then outside, can still be seen. The old wooden bridge over the Welland that predated the ‘new’ bridge, built in the 1840s, crossed where the patio area of the Iron Horse is today, so when coaches travelling to and from London via the Great North Road (A1) entered the town, it was directly into the New Inn courtyard. In the coaching days of old, these Inns were open 24 hours a day to provide rest and refreshment for passengers and stabling for the horses. The Head Porter was in charge of the stables, commanding a substantial income from tips, as it was important for the regular traveller to be on the right side of him if favours were required. In turn the Porter would 12
be answerable to the proprietor if the horses and harnesses were not turned out to perfection. The average citizen would weigh up the offer of rival coaches competing for his business, and once he had decided he would purchase a ticket from a Clerk who would enter the name on a ledger and issue a ticket for the journey. Great care was taken to avoid over-booking, as the cost of conveying a passenger in this unfortunate circumstance fell to the Clerk. This could prove expensive as the traveller had to be sent on his way by the more expensive post-chaise, unless he was prepared to wait for the next coach. The journey could be the cause of abject misery or extreme pleasure, the weather could be foul and the company uncongenial. On the other hand, it could be an experience to savour with lively and interesting company in the fresh country air. Alternatively, as a contemporary cartoonist showed, the stage coach passenger inside the coach might be cramped between a fat woman carrying a parrot and a fishmonger smelling of … fish!

A Christmas to remember! with Lynne and William Booker
It all started well enough – off we drove to church – the joint of beef was in the oven, kids all shiny and excited, looking forward to a relaxed Christmas lunch, a walk by the river then collapsing in front of the TV. An hour later, home, key in the door and... we were well and truly locked out. We just couldn’t believe it! Christmas Day out in the cold with our three young children – and a broken front door lock! Our wonderful neighbours invited in Lynne and the younger kids and plied them with coffee and mince pies while William skirted the house for possible ‘break in’ points. The bathroom top window was ajar so a ladder was found and up climbed Matt (aged about 12) who attempted to push his wiry frame through the narrow horizontal gap. He tried this way, he tried that way, but no luck. Through the kitchen window, we could see our big ginger cat, Garfield, on top of a cupboard (no doubt enjoying the smell of dinner) and behind him was hanging the back door key! So temptingly near! Could the cat be persuaded to ‘fetch’? Unlikely. Then our wonderful neighbour John had the big idea. He just happened to have (don’t ask!) a javelin – not just any javelin but the javelin with which Steve Batley won a silver medal in the 2000 Olympics! He fixed a wire coat hanger to its end and threaded it delicately through the cat flap. Garfield watched, confused and curious as he attempted

to ‘fish’ for the key. Crouched down with Steve Batley’s javelin, John couldn’t actually see into the kitchen so was directed in ‘Right a bit, left a bit’ fashion by William. His aim was improving, he nudged the key and tried to hook it, nearly... nearly... and yes, the key fell down behind the oven, out of sight! Meanwhile next door, having consumed a great many mince pies and now moved on to the sherry, Lynne was enjoying the day immensely.

Well finally of course we had to call a locksmith which, as you can imagine, on Christmas Day cost a pretty penny. We finally got in at about 2 p.m., ate dinner at 3 and that joint was crisply caramelised on the outside and meltingly sweet inside – delicious! Our kids all look back on it as one of the funniest and most enjoyable of Christmases – and I thank goodness for the neighbourliness of the Deepings!

So what is on trend for this season? As always the traditional reds, greens and golds are as popular as ever due to their age-old affinity with the festive season. If you favour the traditional Christmas colour ways, there are plenty of little extras around that can be added to your existing collection to modernise and spruce up your tree, mantlepiece and dining table. Veering away from the traditional, there is a taste for white and bronze colours. The spectrum of colours that sits within this range complement each other well, and by adding layers and different shapes and textures to your Christmas tree, you will create an air of luxury. Combined with a real pine tree, decorations in this theme will create a magical and organic environment, and give a tasteful winter wonderland feel, even if we don’t have snow.
As a subtle variation of the white theme, adding a delicate injection of soft pastel colours such as pink and mint is also popular this year, breaking up solid blocks of traditional snowy white for an extra bit of sparkle. continued >

Vibrant colours, especially zesty lime, teal, orange, pink and purple add pops of colour. This contemporary Christmas design puts a bright and playful spin on traditional decoration. Carefully chosen baubles amidst more traditional gold colours create a really exciting and lively setting. These trends that can be extended beyond just the Christmas tree – consider adding some matching decorations to your festive table to continue the theme.
You can always make your home special without breaking the bank. Place fun crackers on your dining table and in your tree. There are plenty of interesting designs around, noticeably a contemporary take on traditional Christmas icons – toy soldiers, sprouts and pheasants, of course! The use of animals, particularly birds - owls, peacocks and pheasants - are also on trend. Add some of these little creatures to bring texture and colour. If you’re aiming for adventure this year, this is one way to do it – though a word of caution, sometimes less is more!

Ria Taylor helps to combat dress stress this Christmas! Christmas is coming… and festive stress is something that’s sure to hit most of us at some point this December. Along with last minute present buying and dwelling over the perfect Christmas lunch, there’s sorting out an outfit for that Christmas party. Busy social schedules at this time of year usually results in dress stress for us all, so I’m on hand with inspiration and a plan for that perfect Christmas outfit. Deepings’ first Pumpkin Carving Competition Radio’s Daphne Ledward was there to help judge the entries Fusion Interiors
There was a distinctly creepy feel hanging over Swines Meadow Nurseries on 31st October. Was it the bats hanging from the ceiling under which a large collection of pumpkins was displayed, or the spooky decor of the room – surely it wasn’t the cheeky chappie with a chubby pumpkin bottom who greeted visitors who had come to view the grand spectacle of the Deepings’ first Pumpkin Competition? The day was mild and the slight breeze warm for the time of year, so it couldn’t be the weather. Perhaps we will never know what caused the Halloween atmosphere that day, but when all the lanterns were lit and the curtains drawn, several of us felt shivers down our spines.

We judges found it almost impossible to pick winners in each category. Gone were the unimaginative smiley faces of yesteryear; instead was a huge variety of innovative lanterns of all designs and sizes, with entries from the very young to the seniors of the Deepings – the Over Sixties category, won by Gwen Baggs, was an innovation and Braeburn Lodge stepped
in as sponsors. To make the job easier, the judges decided to make individual lists of their favourites and then see how many entries appeared on everyone’s lists. Surprisingly, there was total agreement on most lists and after a check to see we were happy with our eventual choices the awards were made. Awards were presented by our own Martin ‘Wolfie’ Adams, and Make it Yours had made personalised Halloween bags for some of the children’s classes. In fact, many people had worked hard to stage the event; Swines Meadow is to be congratulated on hosting the event and especially for introducing the judges to delicious pumpkin dishes at lunchtime. I may be thoughtful about carving a pumpkin next Halloween, but if I do I shall know exactly what to do with the inside!

Farming family takes art to its heart Think of the Vergette family and we are reminded of tales of farming, of hunting and, of course, the training stables here in Market Deeping which achieved considerable success at race courses in the UK and around the world. Not so widely known is that the family harboured a famous children’s book illustrator in their fold. With the pen name Dorothy Rees, Edith was born in the Stamford Hill area of London in 1891, just as the Victoria era was coming to a close. She was a young woman during the First World War and in December 1916 she married George Vergette of Towngate House at St Michael and All Angels Church in Southfields, Wandsworth. Already a budding artist, the country air fuelled the muse of this iconic illustrator and soon her lovable cherubic-style depictions of children were dancing over the pages of much-loved story books. Dorothy clearly had an eye to the commercial appeal of her books, Nursery Rhymes with Sauc (e)y endings were traditional rhymes adapted to include references to HP Sauce. The ABC Stories were published by Geographica in 1916 and in 1929 the Hull Mail recommended people ‘to buy for your children the “Forget me Knot Book of Nursery Rhymes” illustrated by E. Dorothy Rees’. In 1930 when Dean & Sons first published Enid Blyton’s book ‘Jolly Days’, it was Dorothy Rees who provided the cover illustration. She also designed picture cut-out books and in 1933 two were published: ‘My Book of Dolls Ready to Dress’ and ‘My Model Village to Cut Out’. When George died in 1936, Dorothy remained a widow for many years until in 1946 she married Eric Thacker. The couple set up home in Epping and it was here that Dorothy died in 1967. continued >

Her younger sister Gladys was also an illustrator, working in watercolours. She studied at the Chelsea School of Art where she later became a teacher. She often combined her painting with illustrative work and she was commissioned to do work for the London Underground. Although married to John P. Teasdale in 1927 she often signed her work using her maiden name. Living in Ryhall, she exhibited widely throughout the UK, including at the Royal Academy, and she often had her own shows in this county, mainly at the Arts Centre in Stamford.

Dorothy was a prolific artist but she still found time to raise a family. Son Nicholas was born in 1923. Inheriting his mother’s artist talent, he became a well-known ceramicist and had his work exhibited in art galleries and museums in Britain, Europe and in the USA. His studies at the Chelsea School of Art were interrupted for five years when he served in the RAF during the Second World War. He married in the UK and then left these shores for the USA where he was Professor of Art & Design at Illinois University from 1960-74, when sadly he died from cancer aged just fifty. Her eldest son, Bob worked on the farm with Mike Vergette, having been wounded during the Second World War; he had served first with a commissioned rank with the Mounted Artillery preparing for a campaign in Norway but was wounded while serving with the Royal Artillery in the Mediterranean and had transferred to the Parachute Regiment. A skilled horseman he was a successful steeple chase rider and followed the Cottesmore and Fitzwilliam hounds. But his hobby was art, and he specialised in wood sculpture. Before his premature death following a fall from his horse at the age of 33 in 1952, several examples of his work were exhibited in Peterborough.
Helping each other is something that people in Deeping do very well but every now and again a piece falls out of the jigsaw and more help is needed. Recently the Trustees of Deeping St James United Charities have noticed that there are a few gaps in the provision of voluntary services and have funded this ad to draw this to your attention. So if you have a couple of hours a week or maybe more you could be the person to fit the bill!

Lincolnshire Credit Union The Round Table has hit the headlines in the Deepings by raising an amazing £1901 for Children in Need, whilst dressed as Super heroes! This is our best year yet. Although helping in the community is part of what we do, be it financially or giving our time to support on local projects, the Round Table is about men aged between 18 and 45 getting together every other Monday to make new friends and have fun.
The Credit Union’s aim is to provide the people of Lincolnshire with a safe community owned financial co-operative, offering an easy way to save and with access to affordable loans and budgeting support. LIVES First Responders are specially trained volunteers who are often the first on the scene when someone is ill and has dialled 999. Their job is to be with the patient until the ambulance and paramedics arrive. Lives always needs volunteers and full training is given.

The Deeping Christmas Table As Nancy Titman recalls ‘right through the ages until World War 1, goose was the traditional meal at Christmas and everyone in Deeping who could afford it looked forward to this special dinner.’ Nancy’s father recalled how in the days of his youth in the 1890’s great numbers of geese were reared in Deeping. John Huffer owned as many as 3,000 which were turned out as goslings on Crowland and Cowbit washes and walked home three weeks before Christmas to be fattened up on the river bank. The discordant racket they made was unbelievable and the killing at night was a noisy affair too. The dressing employed considerable local labour after which the birds were conveyed to the station by horse drawn wagons destined for leading mens clubs in London. Now as families are not as traditional as they once were, people are looking for more innovative dishes for this day of days. Rob Johnson, Chef at the Waterton Arms suggests a Turkey Ballotine. (A Ballotine is meat containing stuffing often tied) ‘It has the advantage that it can be made beforehand and kept in the fridge and is ideal if there are just one or two people eating but as it is simple to make it is a good idea for a party too.’
To make stuffing for two 100 gms of Grasmere pork mince, 10-15 gms of cranberries (can be bought frozen and defrosted or fresh), 10-15 gms chopped dried apricots, shallot - all finely diced and mixed together with seasoning. Lay two rashers of bacon on a piece of cling film on which you lie a turkey escalope with seasoning. Place stuffing in the middle of the escalope. Roll turkey round the stuffing and bacon round the turkey. Wrap in the cling film and tie each end off. Place in boiling water for 15-20 mins and then refresh in cold water. At this stage the ballotines can be kept in the fridge for use up to two days later. Take then out of the cling film and pan fry lightly to colour up the bacon. Place in a preheated oven for 20 mins at 220 under tin foil. Slice and garnish with chervil or parsley. If there is too much stuffing, use to make delicious sausage rolls using ready made puff pastry. Cook in a pre-heated oven for 15-20mins at 230. Cook roast potatoes in duck or goose fat and use an array of seasonal vegetables as an accompaniment. When you are setting out your cold meats and cheeses for a buffet later on in the day include a glass dish of homemade fig jelly from the Deeping Fudge Tea room at Swines Meadow Farm Nursery, a delicious accompaniment for minimal effort! The Christmas Cake is the crowning glory and Lilli’s tea room has an abundance of exquisite cakes on glorious cake stands to show the way. But patissiere Sarah Pope of Lilli’s explains that a hand finished cake is easily achievable. Buy a fruit cake ready iced or buy marzipan and ready rolled icing and assemble yourself. Tie a ribbon around the circumference of your cake to match with your table decor. Then take either ready made icing or marzipan according to your taste, add a little green paste food colouring and knead all the way through. Roll out and cut out holly leaves with holly shaped cutters and with red coloured icing or marzipan roll tiny red berries in your hand. Assemble in a pattern around the edge of your cake and in the middle, with icing that can be bought in tubes, write a Christmas greeting. Food colourings and cutters are widely available but Lakeland have a good selection. 32
Bring a family heirloom into life, or dust down an old glass bowl from the back of the cupboard to use as a table centre. Fill with oasis from Valeries. Slice an orange and dry for a week in the airing cupboard or for speed, bags of dried apple and orange slices can be bought. Using florists’ wire threaded through, place in the oasis with pine cones and Christmas baubles in the same way. Silk pine fronds soften the arrangement placed around the edge and ribbon and faux red berries accent the table centre. Featured is one created by Valerie’s Flowers of Market Gate. A vintage theme for the table is easily created with mis-matched china and glasses available from local charity shops and the Market Deeping Antiques and Craft Centre. Bring old linen napkins back to life, support a local charity and at each place setting pop a Ferrero Rocher dressed in a hand knitted cosy widely available at £1 each throughout the Deepings. Press the family into action to help with the washing up, the dishwasher is more efficient but many family memories are relived over the Fairy Liquid and a teatowel or two. But most of all enjoy!

The Slippery Slope Ron woke from a deep, beer-filled sleep and sat up, rubbing his eyes. His head was thumping. He tried to remember how many pubs he and his mates been to last night and soon lost count. He panicked suddenly, groping for his watch. 6.45. He got up, went over to the basin and sluiced cold water over his face and hair. His shift started at 8 and he had to clock in, or lose money. He pulled on his clothes and his work boots, feeling in his jacket pocket for his money. He never left money in his room; his snooping, sour-faced landlady had a pass key and he neither liked nor trusted her. He pulled out a handful of small change. Was that all he had left? ‘Yes’, it seemed to say, ‘that’s all you’ve got. Not much is it?’ Ron searched through all his other pockets, hoping to find forgotten coins, but they were empty. How many rounds had he bought last night? And he had vague memories of buying everyone hot dogs… Feeling sick, he made for the stairs and then, with another shock, he realised it was Saturday. Not a work day, no need to jump up with a start. Thoroughly dispirited he clumped back up the stairs and collapsed on his bed, hoping that when he woke up again his money would magically reappear. Then he remembered: Joan was visiting today. He had planned to buy her a meal at the hotel in town, and something pretty to wear. He hadn’t seen her for weeks; this was the first time she could get a Saturday off. Ron sat up and took a good look at himself in the mirror. He didn’t like what he saw. The money he’d wasted had been sent by his parents to tide him over till pay day – he hated asking but he’d got behind with his rent and Sour Face had threatened to kick him out. He found it hard to make his money last all week. He hated staying in at night by himself, the pub was warmer and the lads good company. A chap had to stand his round, or look mean. And Christmas was coming … 34
The one thing he didn’t do in common with the others was gamble. Ron’s dad had warned him over and over about gambling – his own father had been ruined by it. ‘Whatever else you do, Ron,’ his dad constantly repeated, ‘promise me you won’t set foot in a betting shop.’ And Ron had kept his promise. Until now. He lay back on his bed again, thinking. If he just had one bet and it came good, then he’d have enough to take Joan for a slap-up meal, and shopping afterwards. He looked at his change. Not much. But it might just be enough. A few hours later, shaved, smart in his suit, Ron was in town. Joan’s bus was not due for another hour. The betting shop was busy with men mostly a lot older than Ron, who looked at him curiously, a nervous first-timer they didn’t know. Acting with a confidence he didn’t feel Ron put his money on a horse at ridiculous odds of 30–1. He heard a snigger behind him and tried to ignore it, picking up a copy of ‘Racing Post’ and pretending to read. When he heard the race commentary start he thought his heart would beat right out of his chest. His horse started well, fell back, inched slowly forward again… And suddenly, unbelievably, the horse came in from nowhere – he’d won! Talk about beginner’s luck. He collected his winnings, relief flooding through him, and made for the door. ‘Going so soon, lad?’ said one of the old timers challengingly. ‘There’s another race in a minute. You could double it.’ Ron paused, his hand on the door. He glanced at the clock. Joan wouldn’t be here for a while yet. Plenty of time. He grinned and turned back. One more wouldn’t hurt.

Take a bracing walk!
Town, village and river walk (2.3 miles, 3.6km, 90 mins) 1) Start at Market Deeping Town Hall, go east along High Street. 2) Cross over to Riverside Park and continue east. 3) Leave the main road by bearing right on to Bridge Street. The River Welland, with its lock, High Locks, comes in to view. 4) Cross over the footbridge. 5) Once on the south bank, turn right to follow the footpath in a westerly direction. Continue past the cottages to open fields on your left and the river on your right. 6) Cross two fields. If livestock is grazing, please take care. Cross a stile to a narrow alley (mind the tree roots!) that ends on the Market Deeping to Peterborough B road. 7) Turn right to return to the Market Place and its selection of hostelries for some well-earned refreshments!

Cards are stamped prior to sorting into piles for young people to take and deliver and at only 30p per card this is not only a great way to save money but to support young people locally as well.

what’s on Santa Fun Ride
Santas’ Fun Run Last year 1178 ‘Santas’ completed the Stamford Fun Run of 5kms raising £12,000 for charity and this included Market Deeping’s own Mayor and Mayoress, Roy and Sue Stephenson. This year’s event will take place on Sunday 13th December at Burghley Park, check in from 10.00am. Entry fee is £14 for adults, children 12 and under £7 to include a Santa suit. Raising money to buy a special Tom Cat Trike for Olive, local 4 year old who has a rare undiagnosed debilitating condition, ‘Team Olive’ will set off from the Spinroom studio, Northfields Ind Est. 10.30 am, 13th December and ride approx 20 miles. Ride into Stamford and grab a pub lunch then ride home. All abilities welcome, however as this will be on busy roads at times not suitable for unaccompanied children under 16, with a parent, 14. Christmas Carols On Friday 18th December at 7.00pm the Salvation Army will meet on Jubilee Park (Thackers Way side) to accompany carol singing with Friends of Jubilee Park. All are welcome. At 7pm on Tuesday 22nd December, in the Market Place, Market Deeping Town Council invites everyone to join them to sing carols around the Christmas Tree. The St Guthlac’s Church Choir will help celebrate the start of Christmas and mulled wine and mince pies will be served afterwards. 38
