Nelisiwe Sikhosana Editor 1. Nelisiwe, often referred to as Neli, is a rare rock among precious stones. I am art personified. A collage of the English language, Victorian authors & poets, and rock influences, with a colourless frame stretching out towards life. I am a great lover of philosophy. 2. Apart from working to ensure ZeroVis publishes good content with no spelling or grammar errors. I will add in the mag’s DNA, a need for completeness and perfectionism. 3. Zero Visibility means radiating in your talents but without the spotlight shining on you. This magazine will be that spotlight reflecting your light to everyone else. 4. Fashion, Fitness and Health and Shopping. 5. The family they are born into, culture and tradition and all that one takes from the world and uses it to build their identity. 6. I am half Ndebele & Swati, and a Victorian lady at heart.

Zandile Matshoba Social manager 1. Zandile is a shy and strict 19-year-old. First year student at Wits and a prospective teacher. I’m not much of a social being, more of an introvert, open to learning new things. 2. I think I will add more of a subtle characteristic to the enormous heritage of Zero Visibility. 3. Zero Visibility for me is a platform where ideas and creativity of a number of different people can be unleashed and published. 4. Any page, as long as it is not the cover page (haha). 5. I think the sole element that contributes, and is unique to a person’s heritage, is where they come from (their roots). 6. Well I am Xhosa, I don’t speak isiXhosa as much as I should hence I’m still learning the language. A Xhosa at heart: I respect my culture and I am a follower of it.

3. Change, growth, influence. We did not go for the norm, creating a platform to show what’s not seen and have it acknowledged is worth way more than highlighting what is already clustering the social environment….
4. Obie is an emotional writer. A lot of my pieces are written using personal experiences (I imagine my lecturers heavily side eying me). That said I see myself all over the relationship pages... #DearSisDollyWithATwist. 5. The company one keeps. The environment one grows up 6.
4. That is kind of funny cause I design the mag, I think in all the pages as the may describe bit and pieces of me. 5. I personally think the environment which on is most comfortable in, yes you cultural heritage depends on your upbringing but your surrounding do plat a major role as well 6. By culture im swati but grew up zulu and not partly goth and punk with a hint of snob and kasi
4. Give me the center fold lol 5. A lot, I can’t really pick one. Culture is just one of the few branches in the tree of heritage. I guess it really depends on the person themselves at how they look at it. 6. Being honest, I think only a few from this generation can answer that. As for me this is my story, my father is from Mozambique, my mother’s Swati and I was raised by a Xhosa grandmother. The only heritage passed on to me is Heredity, having physical features from both my parents and the kinship of my amazing grandmother.

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you converse about certain brands? Is it Exclusivity, Price tag or popularity? Whatever the case may be, certain brands are not associated with classes or pop cultures. There are certain types of clothes and brands associated with different groups and what you wear doesn’t necessarily define you but it gives a glimpse idea of the type of person you are and the kind of things you like and the attention you usually attract. Like iskhothane would be normally seen in those shiny arbiter shoes while your hip-hop fanatics would be seen in Nike Air Max. You wouldn’t see a hip hop fanatic in the streets wearing basketball shorts with an arbiter shoe, so why are we constantly seeing izikhothane all over the hood wearing Nike Air Max though? They are literally wearing those floral tops with extra skinny jeans that go a few inches above the ankle with a Nike air max shoe, that’s disrespect to the entire pop culture and brand. Now, understand this, izikhothane wearing air max shoes wouldn’t be a major problem if they were respected in the community and not associated with all the negatives, you can’t just put a respectable brand on same spectrum with something that’s not respectable. There are levels to these kinds of things. Respect that. Many pop cultures are choosing to stray away from the Air max because of the stigma around the izikhothanes, sure it may just be another shoe to another regular person but the same doesn’t apply to one of the pop culture, it’s really not just another a expensive shoe. It is slowly losing its exclusive status due to all this and that’s all kinds of bad. Everyone should have the choice to decide whatever they want to wear but there are levels to everything and those levels deserve to be respected
“that’s disrespect to the entire pop culture and brand.”

Hashtag trending How to sophisticate a crop top
2. Pair your black slack pants with a corset like white crop top. This will go well at an office party on a Friday.
The crop top trend has taken the world by storm and who better to show us how to do it best, than celebrities themselves. Rihanna, Cara Delevinge, Emma Stone and Kim Kardashian dawn the midriff bearing ensemble on red carpets, the runway, during vacations and while performing on stage Designers like Stella McCartney and Calvin Klein have taken what might be considered casual wear, and have added elegance and sophistication to it. No longer is it confused as an outgrown T-shirt but an expected trend during award season. Not all of us can afford a designer to make something especially for us to wear at an event. When wanting to make a fashion statement, keep up with what is making waves and not looking odd at all, the crop top is often left in one’s closet. Here’s three way to combine what you already own with a figure bearing top to make you stand out at your next elegant event. 1. Match your crop top to a skirt you already own. Patterns, colour and a small purse serve as best accessories.

3. Contrast. Colour contrast is what to go for when you are attending a premiere or going to an opening of a new boutique. When choosing this, make sure the crop top covers your shoulders, preferably elbow length.

cover story South Africa is known for its diversity, with over 10 official languages and very colorful history our beautiful country has a very rich heritage we can be proud of and one with can certainly learn from. In the last 20 odd years, we have been introduced to many new cultures and ways of life adapt and innovating new ones, one might say we a thing for heritage. In this modern era with have your hip hop heads, gothics, punk, and skaters and as of recent ikothani yes it has it on beliefs and culture. South Africa is not only rich in culture or spiritual heritage but we have a number of heritages we can call our own, like for instance just to mention a few sports, that bring a nation together so beautiful forgetting not only our history but color as well. Soccer is our pride and joy although we not the team to beat to be are united when it comes to supporting them; we pride ourselves also with our minerals, like gold and diamonds.
“Sexually progressive cultures gave us literature, philosophy, civilization and the rest, while sexually restrictive cultures gave us the Dark Ages and the Holocaust.” -Alan Moore
We have evolved as a nation and with that found that our youth does not seem to know their roots as much as they should, they are more western than anything else, which is very alarming but not every change is bad. Our youth has find a new heritage of expression and freedom, which they abuse every now and then but let’s give them a chance to find who they are, with all this media intoxicating them it is bound to happen. Let us take a brief look into these new cultures Popular culture based on the tastes of ordinary people rather than educated elite. Hip-hop is a form of popular music that’s comprised mainly of four elements: emceeing, deejaying, graffiti and breakdancing. As hip-hop evolves into big business, new elements are constantly being added to the culture. Today, hip-hop is also a cultural lifestyle that impacts fashion trends, lingo, trends, and attitudes. The goth subculture has associated tastes in music, aesthetics, and fashion. The music of the goth subculture encompasses a number of different styles, including gothic rock, deathrock, post-punk, darkwave, ethereal wave, dark ambient, industrial music, and neoclassical. Styles of dress within the subculture range from deathrock, punk, and Victorian styles, or combinations of the above, most often with dark attire, makeup, and hair.

interview We had a little session QnA with Ken from the InkKLAN, this is what went down: ZV: Seeing that its Heritage month, can you tell us a bit about the heritage of body art? In your understanding Ken: Heritage is diverse in different societies. Tattooing itself has its own society in which the practice of and the need for tattooing has been existent for hundreds of years. Whether it’s a sense of belonging, consolation, acknowledgment or simply admiring , tattooed people speak of and appreciated the art as a form of culture and rather not a hobby. ZV:How did you get into the ink game, was it for the love/passion or the lifestyle that comes with it? Ken: Art has always been a part of me ever since I was really young. Besides it being a natural born talent, art is a passion I put first among all my capabilities, tattooing became my most favored preference at a later stage because of the fact that it’s permanent art in which u only have one shot to execute it to your highest standards. ZV: Ken without a tattoo machine in his hand, what else does he do? Ken: I’ve been an active person all my life. Boxing and dancing have been my prime passions along with art. ZV: You’re a great artist, that’s gotten you noticed by some of our local stars, how did it get to that and how has it been for you working with them? Ken: Simple strategy. I put a lot of time in marketing my work pieces , the internet is a very powerful media source. Eventually my pieces got recognized either on my popular client’s canvases or on the net. And from then on I started getting bookings from well known faces. ZV: If you weren’t tattooing, what do you think you would be doing? Ken: Dominating any other work field. I’m all about business in general. If it’s worth the hard work and determination, I’ll pave a way.
