Acclaimed artist Lucy Pittaway takes the next step in expanding her unique art brand by opening a gallery in York

Coming full circle, Lucy Pittaway's decade-long career culminates in her collections finding their way to the capital of Yorkshire, the regional epicentre that continues to provide endless inspiration and feature in the backdrop of many of her pieces. This is Lucy’s sixth solo gallery and follows in the footsteps of her existing galleries by making art accessible.

O ering collectable original works of art as well as striking Giclee prints, homeware and stationery, the latest gallery guarantees to complement the already rich retail o ering and bring art to the forefront of York.

Taking on the two-storey premises located at 21 Coppergate, Lucy will breathe new life into this empty store once home to womenswear retailer Oasis, which closed its doors in March 2020, leaving 1,900 sq ft of empty space on the high street. Main-stay retailers including M&S, Primark and Lakeland are close by along with independent stores and eateries. Its proximity to the Jorvik centre, the Shambles and York Minster will be a welcome addition to the existing destination attractions in the city.

Looking ahead at the impact of the new gallery, Lucy explains: “York is such a special place and somewhere I continue to get so much inspiration from, it has a lot to o er and is appealing to a wide range of people as a destination. I’m incredibly grateful that my journey has led me here and am confident that locals and visitors will enjoy the bright store front as it’s something di erent from the existing o ering.”

Lucy adds: “York attracts local and international visitors through its history, attractions, academia and culture, which is underpinned by a strong retail o er. We hope our gallery o ers a refreshed opportunity for locals to love their high street and enhance the experiences for tourists with a further boost to the city’s visitor economy.”

Lucy’s love of the outdoors shines through in her artwork, with many pieces showcasing regional landmarks from across Yorkshire, the Dales and beyond.

“The sheer size of Yorkshire a ords us so many opportunities to enjoy diverse landscapes such as fells and valleys, amazing coastlines and vibrant cities and historic towns – there is something for everyone and we look forward to working with others to promote York as an exceptional destination,” Lucy explains.

The store will welcome customers at its opening weekend on 25-26 March. Find out more at lucypittaway.co.uk
