Birdsall House

More than a stately home, Birdsall House sits in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds, five miles from Malton. Home to The Willoughby’s for over 300 years, the family launched the house as an events venue in 2018 and its stylish makeover has featured in The Sunday Times, Tatler, Country Life and The Telegraph. It is a stunning setting for an exclusive wedding, business event or celebration. With 12th century ruins on the front lawn and recently renovated bedrooms for guests, it’s the perfect combination of contemporary style and inspiring heritage. In the five years since opening, the house has also been a film location, hosting Kelsey Grammar, John Cleese and Elizabeth Hurley to name a few. Previously only available for private events, 2023 sees the launch of wellness retreats and live theatre.

Purple Carrot

O ering a selection of the world’s wealth of veggie and vegan cuisine, Purple Carrot’s menu is inspired by a diverse range of foods from around the globe; from Eastern Europe through Morocco to India to the Mediterranean. Everything they sell is freshly handmade daily in their tiny kitchen. Situated in a Grade II listed building in Yorkshire’s food capital, the interiors are cosy and well-decorated. Everything on the menu is handmade on the premises and they are sure there will be something to delight any palate. The Purple Carrot has evolved from Mind for Cooking (established in 2003), which first came to Malton as a market stall, often selling out at the monthly markets and annual Harvest and Food Lovers’ Festivals. They expanded to create menus and dishes for local yoga retreats (Little Yoga Company), business lunches and various other food markets across North Yorkshire and further afield. All the while, founder Kate Zaleska’s ethos was maintained: making delicious food using honest ingredients with passion and flavour, and perhaps most importantly, respecting the planet.
